Colleague has called in sick when they definitely aren’t!

My colleague has been on a fixed term contract with a plan to go into another job at the end of it. They’re not exactly the best employee at the best of times.

They got rejected from that position and asked our boss yesterday if they could stay. The boss said no.

So they just walked out. They’re not in today and to be honest I’d be surprised if we see them again. I’ve already picked up the work of one colleague who has left. Now I’m picking up this work too. AIBU to be totally peed off and fed up?!

The job market doesn't allow for this stance. Maybe you need a change yoruseld

I'm on the side of the sick person if I'm honest. What if they were genuinely sick, or worse 💀 😳, what then? Where does the blame go then?
Respectfully, if you can answer that question, then you have a point and a decent discussion - but as it stands, you come across as a martyr and a bit stubborn and this thread is just going to go round and round. Similar to the should sick people still go into work and risk others falling ill even if they don't get paid type threads.

They probably aren’t extending their contract as they are off “Ill” a lot and not working well when they are in!
