possibly the most trivial thread ever but this really pissed me of

i went into tesco at lunchtime, picked up three items all pretty small (jar of pasta sauce, loaf of bread and packet of oreo's). went to the nearest checkout and was stuck with the slowest customer in the world infront of me, finally she packed her bags and paid so i moved forward and started to get my bag open to put my shopping in.

as i turned round after flapping my bag around i seen the cashier running through a item belonging to the lady behind me in the que.

i said er i am sure that i am the next customer and the cashier replied that as the lady only had one item she had put hers through first then asked if it was ok. i replied that as she had already scanned the item that there was not much i could do about it but it would have been polite for her to ask me first.

the cashier and lady both looked at me like i had ten heads then i had to wait till she rummaged around in her purse looking for all her change while i am stood like a prat holding onto my bag.

fair enough if i had a trolley full of shopping but really how much more time does it take to scan 3 items rather than one.

the lady finally found the right of money thn said sorry to the cashier for getting her into trouble and edged past me looking like i was some kind of loony who might pounce on her.

so was i bu, or would you be about this.

Trivial indeed

lazarou · 26/06/2008 15:27

I would have asked to speak to the manager or supervisor and complained.

That would have really pissed me off. You should have stuck your leg out as she went past.

McDreamy · 26/06/2008 15:28

If I'm honest it wouldn't have bothered me! But I can imagine DH would have been about it!

No, yanbu, it was rude and would have pissed me off too. She should have asked.

kerryk · 26/06/2008 15:32

thats notjustmom i spent ages trying to remember how to spell queue

it does seem like a really trivial thing but for some reason it annoyed me today.

trivial..maybe..but i would have exploded and stamped my feet

littleboyblue · 26/06/2008 15:33

That's,not trivial. I would have complained to the manager. It's bang out of order. There is a queue for a reason I'm afraid, why don't we just all stand in a huddle, jumping up and down yelling "me next, please, please, please" bloody supermarkets

funnypeculiar · 26/06/2008 15:34

Oh, that's just the sort of thing that would hack me off too. IF someone with one item is behind me & I have a trolleyful, I may (in my great kindness) let them through first, but this is MY choice. I will also agree if people ask NICELY.

YANBU.

AMumInScotland · 26/06/2008 15:37

YANBU - even if you had a trolley-full, you're still ahead in the queue. That's how a queue works!

Kimi · 26/06/2008 15:37

YANBU

ProfYaffle · 26/06/2008 15:38

I would be hacked off, this is the sort of thing that really niggles me even though I feel it shouldn't.

Pinkjenny · 26/06/2008 15:39

YANBU

misdee · 26/06/2008 15:42

YANBU

i think i would feel silly going back to complain now, but i am glad i said something at the time. hate it when i let something go and then spend ages wishing i had said something.

the two of them looked at me like i was being the most unreasonable person ever and it just got me thinking (hence the post)

YANBU.

I was in M&S. I had just three items, so I joined the fast track queue. There was one person working the till, and one customer. She had 5 items. Only, they were items of clothing. She changed her mind 3 times, and went back to swap items, scarf here, different colour tights here, while the queue got bigger and bigger. I did roll the pushchair over her toe the final time she left the checkout to go back and exchange something. She too paid in a combination of coins and vouchers.

meridian · 26/06/2008 15:56

not trivial at all.. that is very out of order. I would have been fuming! its small discourtisies like that that really annoy me... good for you for saying something and not just letting it slide...

duchesse · 26/06/2008 15:56

Tesco quite probably has the worst customer service of any supermarket, anywhere and in any space-time continuum. I avoid it as much as possible but on the rare occasion I go there am amazed at what people will put up with.

Of course if they'd asked you would have said yes. It was bloody rude not to. Have we abandoned all sense of queue-decency in this country?

fryalot · 26/06/2008 15:58

YANBU

D'ye know, it wouldn't have been all right if you had a trolley full of shopping either.

It is up to you to let someone go in front of you. Nobody else.

Tis just rude

Love2bake · 26/06/2008 16:43

YANBU

Would have pissed me right off.

Going against the grain here and YABU.

Yes, they should have asked you really but I would have looked at someone having a big strop in the supermarket over this. IMO the supermarket queue is one of those places you have to go zen-like otherwise EVERYTHING will stress you out (that queue is moving faster/cashier is humming/person in front of me taking hundred years to count his change).

Tbh in my local Morrisons, I actually now view it as a chance to slow down and chat and smile at the world - otherwise I seriously would go insane (especially when that annoying kind bloke they employ to -stalk me collect baskets seems to be everywhere I turn).

cheshirekitty · 26/06/2008 16:58

Know what you mean. Today I was in the lift going down. Came to ground floor, doors opened and everyone charged in not letting little me get a chance of getting off. I had to operate the keep the doors open button, so slowed them down he he he.
