To feel utterly miserable about a future with Andy Burnham as PM?

OneWarmHazelQuail · Today 01:23

I feel like I'm being stung in every possible way at the moment- £15 a day on tube to work, high mortgage costs, high energy costs, private schooling for SEN child (I was told state wouldn't be unlikely to assist him as he isn't mute or violent). My parents have had to help fund schooling it felt like my only hope as son has behavioural issues.

I also have an unsold old home that I have to rent out as it wouldn't sell. Buy-to-let mortgage costs, agent fees, maintenance and tax put me in a loss position.

I can't bear what the future holds with Andy Burnham. I have no doubt that he will find new and imaginative ways to keep me in this financial nightmare. I'm literally struggling from food poverty but regarded as rich by policy.

YABU- Andy Burnham is actually going to make things better

YANBU- I'm screwed

My parents help. They can't pay the lot.

My parents are mid 70s and are working just to try and help us. We're desperate. I think my parents fear I'll commit suicide as I think they see how trapped I am. At this point, life insurance feels like a genuine choice.

My son needs help. I'm unable to access the help. He screams for hours a day. The council have given me courses. They don't help. EHCP takes several years. Its a desperate situation. Im hemorrhaging funds on a second home that I need to pay for therapies for my son

It's a terrible situation all round for you, but even giving the impression you might commit suicide isn't going to help anyone least of all your son or your elderly parents.
Selling at a lower price or renting it out, both are viable and will hopefully give you some lee way.

Monty36 · Today 08:37

I think best to see what he does or doesn’t do. Then form an opinion.

The one thing I would say is that PM’s question time will be far more adversarial. Some interesting moments to come there.

The other is that he cannot expect to just extrapolate what he did in Manchester to the UK in a wider sense. What works in one area does not necessarily work in another.

And to note what a bunch of hypocrites in the Labour Party I watched yesterday. All deciding they liked Starmer now and crying etc. Standing ovation, cheering him on. Backstabbing is something not to be admired.

Insert

Brexit
Austerity
14 years of Tories
Covid

Repeat, rinse, repeat. Always the same excuses for a poor Labour government. YANBU

This isn't about Andy Burnham. You are in need of help. Please see your GP for a referral for you and your child. In the meantime, if you feel desperate, you can contact the Samaritans who will give you support. Best of luck 🤞

I am so sorry you are feeling that desperate op. That is a serious post, and one that needs to be addressed beyond the political football. Do you have real life support? 116 123 keep that in your phone and contact your doctor today. You sound totally overwhelmed.

Edited

I agree, OP, you cannot wait for things to change politically, you need help now my love.
Ring social services and tell them that you need support as you cannot carry this load alone. Then contact your GP.
There is help out there but you have to search hard to find it.

What are you ranting about? I bever said I was a conservative 😂

Anyone else remember "There is no money left"? That was Labour wasn't it?

Ah yes, the famous note!

The joke one, traditionally left by Chancellors of every political persuasion whenever there's a change of government. It doesn't usually get sent to the press unless, for example, you need to justify an unnecessary and damaging policy like austerity.

Please tell me you didn't actually take it seriously! 🤣🤣

It's not that I'm trying to give off the impression. I think they see the lack of self care, the emotions, the constant state of distress.

House wont sell and it definitely wont rent for more money.

Unfortunately for Labour the note was not a joke, as there really was no money left. It was intended to make light of a dire situation.

I imagine you are feeling that you can’t take much more, and Burnham might represent a cliff edge (as it will for many) to help those that already have so much state support, and to put even more of a burden on tax payers and working people. I can see exactly what you are saying op.

I just don't understand how some clueless mayor can wander into the highest position in politics. Don't they need specific qualifications, even if they are supported by MPs is that really it?! no actual vetting process?

He got in via a fake by election. You'd just think criteria for the role would include if not being in the cabinet then an actual serving MP of longer than 5 mins.

Yes he has the gift of the gab and the performance skills in the way that Starmer didn't but he just seems absolutely thick.

Wandered in clueless, a chunk of Americia voted in Trump so it isn't unknown.
He's not exactly the sharpest for common sense and brains.

OneWarmHazelQuail · Today 08:42

vickylou78 · Today 08:09

Op can you home school your son?

I can't even cope with him for the hours that he is at home, let alone if he was home all day.

It's so hard to see your child in such distress and not be able to help him

It was a traditional Treasury joke. Yes, it was a dire situation and all Cameron and Osborn did was make it worse. The one thing economists agree on was that austerity doesn’t work and now we’re all living with the proof in an even more dire situation with decimated public services.

What are the specific problems with your son? Maybe people on here can advise and help.

Lucyccfc68 · Today 08:44

Wow, talk about tone deaf privilege.

You have a job
You own 2 properties
Your parents have enough money so you and your child benefit from a private education.

If you are struggling, it’s not because Burnham may become the next Prime Minister, it’s because it’s going to take longer than 2 years to recover from the shit show the Tories put us through.

If they hadn’t gone ahead with austerity we would already be bankrupt!! Please educate yourself

What is the government doing to migrate that though? Brexit means we are in a position to make ourselves the AI capital of the world. We can put in policies that will make every AI start up want to come to the UK… tumbleweeds so far

And this. Does Burnham have a good grasp of incoming AI

It’s interesting that Labour supporters blame ‘terminal decline’ suddenly now rather than acknowledging that Labour are not fit to govern.

Labour have no policies
No plan whatsoever
They came to government with YEARS to prepare, with nothing to offer the country at all apart from encouraging the poor to have more children they can’t afford - another eye watering sum for the tax payers. They have absolutely no idea what they are doing.

It is possible to invigorate the economy. To stimulate growth by cutting the overheads for businesses, making it attractive to hire etc etc. Reverse some of the ridiculous decisions made by Reeves.

Of course it’s possible to produce a growth plan designed to fire up the country and the economy. Slash welfare, get people working.
Bring in policies where working actually pays. Start supporting business and ramp up production..

We are living well beyond our means with the dead weight of millions of healthy people that could be contributing, instead are languishing on welfare. We need to address the ballooning immigration bill that is costing us billions and billions.
So much could be done!

But it won’t be done by Burnham that’s for sure. I actually think Labour hates this country, and are determined to see us all fail. Flat lining the country to the lowest denominator, and into some kind of dystopian socialist hellscape, in line with their woke ideals.

It’s devastating to see them flounder so badly, when we really need leadership, direction and purpose as a country.

Couldn’t have put it better.

CurlewKate · Today 08:46

Why are people saying Burnham is thick? Is that another way of saying “has a northern accent”?

Read all my posts and tell me if you still think this is genuinely tone deaf privilege.

Perhaps I'm blinded by the fact that I'm struggling so badly and can't see a way out

Burnham is a rape gang apologist and advocate of men in womens spaces

Why do you have to bring trans people into every conversation. You seem obsessed with them... Bit creepy...

AI is just a very expensive computer programme written by humans and humans will control the outputs. It is not a Nuniversal cureall for the world problems, expect another dot.com like bubble to burst
