Turkey teeth are the new norm?

Itsalittlebitwarm · Yesterday 01:08

Having watched interviews from the 1980s and 1990s when they had perfect natural teeth and the comments why are they so yellow?

Is it really becoming a thing to have bright white teeth? I've noticed it more that indeed many people I meet, all ages, have these unnatural gloss.

Personally, when I see this, my reaction is nice but it doesn't make a difference unless for medical reasons. In fact I think it's quite a common view that has become a bit mocking.

I'm not saying with any form of malice, just it's so obvious.

I think having bright white teeth and Turkey teeth are somewhat different. People can have their own teeth whitened to an extent that they can look quite fake. Veneers and implants can also be quite white depending on the chosen shade.

Turkey teeth are just in a league of their own and don’t even look like teeth. I can’t understand why anyone thinks they look good.

Whenever I see someone with them, I always notice that I struggle to see the lines between the individual teeth, rather it looks like one big white strip they have in their mouth. It’s so bizarre looking, so I really hope it’s not going to become the norm.

What so others do something and people cant engage their brains and follow like sheep? Juat go alomg with it because they lack intelligence? Surely not!

You're spot on. I saw a chap yday with a set of fluorescent piano key gnashers so uninform and tightly packed I thought it was a gum shield. Poor guy. He was fighting a wasp which made the scene extra comical.

I don’t think i’ve seen anyone in RL with Turkey teeth, a few with straight white teeth

Ah, I had to google this as I was confused by the fact that turkeys don't actually have teeth.

Completely agree, OP. Anything more than mild whitening of teeth looks almost as ridiculous as the puffy duck lips that seem to be going out of fashion a bit now, thank god

I thought the same 😆 was picturing a turkey with teeth and realized they don't have any, then opened the thread and was a little disappointed.

But i agree with previous posters that there are a lot of fake teeth and duck lips (another impossible mental picture haha) nowadays and it just really doesn't look good... Whitening of natural teeth to a certain degree can really enhance a smile and keep someones unique features, but th turkey teeth ..no

I actually feel a bit gutted when I see young people with these. They don’t realise what they have lost by hacking away at their own teeth. They look terrible and age people by decades.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · Yesterday 15:54

The luminous white gum shield type look horrendous.

Natural, healthy white teeth look lovely.

Red lipstick makes teeth look yellow so maybe that’s a factor?

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · Yesterday 15:56

And I agree that the gum shield ones look A LOT like false teeth and really ages people.

But a lot of the face surgery ages people too, so maybe no one cares about looking older now? Which is probably quite healthy as the ‘anti-aging’ stuff can be a teeny bit toxic.

Gowlett · Yesterday 16:02

When I see someone with lovely teeth it’s usually a nice smile that’s benefited from good orthodontics & a bit of whitening. Never Turkey Teeth, which always look terrible!

Same with boob jobs, hair extensions & fluttery eyelashes. And black eyebrows & Botox. I don’t think they look good, but fair enough if anyone wants them, personal choice.

It’s really unusual for people irl to have turkey teeth. The celebs who have them are pretty limited to the Katie price and reality tv stars.

in fact, I’d be interested to know who you see outside of this with turkey teeth? News presenters, politicians, people you see regularly rarely have them.

ExtraOnions · Yesterday 16:08

No teeth will end up being the norm. The work being done in Turkey, might be cheaper, but it’s not up to our standards. My sister needs one implant, and she has had to have a bone graft to get her gums in the correct state to take an implant, it’s a lengthy process, but means it will last. The work people are having done in Turkey is not built to last

Larrythecatforpm · Yesterday 16:12

Whenever I see turkey teeth, I just picture their real teeth filed down to nothing. I can’t take people seriously who have it done twenty odd years bet they need implants or dentures!

It really isn’t unusual in my life! I work for a large hospital trust in the north west and they’re pretty common here. Maybe a quarter of the porters have them and loads of the domestics. Increasing numbers of patients.
My observation is that with the state of British dentistry if someone has really bad teeth it’s cheaper to go to turkey and go the whole hog than get them sorted here. It’s generally the poorer paid workers you’ll see with them, never seen a doctor or a physio for instance. I assume their teeth are better cared for from childhood.

This will depend on where you live and how observant you are. I see them all the time.

I’m in Yorkshire, working class areas and they’re very popular with gym goers/tanning bed people

Bananalanacake · Yesterday 17:02

I thought they were called Turkey teeth because they look like the teeth of a turkey, the bird we eat at Christmas, I didn't know they even had teeth.

AliceMcK · Yesterday 17:34

I was thinking about this earlier. I recently saw an old school mum I use to chat to, I nearly didn’t recognise her or her 15yo dd both have really really dark fake tans and the whitest teeth that just looked so weird when they smiled. It reminded me of when I was little and my Nan use to make comments about American actors and their fake white teeth on tv.

To some extent I get it, the British don’t have the best rep for nice teeth, personally I have more yellow teeth, nothing to do with lifestyle or care, it’s just my natural colour as many of my family. I think I’d look weird it they were suddenly Daz white. People take it too far, like with fake tans

ImPamDoove · Yesterday 17:43

My children (early 20s) have perfect, straight white teeth. Natural. They’ve benefited from modern dentistry and orthodontics and have never had any veneers or bonding procedures done. I think that’s the case for a lot of young people nowadays.

lmnabc · Yesterday 18:34

I went to see a therapist for some hypnotherapy. The first thing I noticed was his teeth and though he’d either got false ones or was wearing a gum shield for some reason - they were so bright. He told me he’d just come back from Turkey having his teeth done. I couldn’t stop looking at them and he certainly didn’t manage to hypnotise me
