Turkey teeth are the new norm?

Having watched interviews from the 1980s and 1990s when they had perfect natural teeth and the comments why are they so yellow?

Is it really becoming a thing to have bright white teeth? I've noticed it more that indeed many people I meet, all ages, have these unnatural gloss.

Personally, when I see this, my reaction is nice but it doesn't make a difference unless for medical reasons. In fact I think it's quite a common view that has become a bit mocking.

I'm not saying with any form of malice, just it's so obvious.

It's not the norm with people I see every day.

I have literally never met anyone in real life with this (SE) but went to Liverpool and saw a couple in a bar with them. Maybe I just noticed because they had very dark tans and the rest of their look made their teeth glow in that lighting.

I don’t suppose they mind that it doesn’t look natural. Fits with that aesthetic. I suppose they can have them swapped out for more ordinary ones when they need.

I have only seen two people out in the wild with these gnashers. One was a Asian bloke in his 20s, I was speaking to him about something in a professional capacity (he was the expert) and the teeth were blinding and did look like a gum shield, the contrast of those teeth against the darker skin tone was so distracting. I wanted to ask him, why, why? I couldn’t concentrate on what he was saying. I also saw a muscle packed uber tanned bloke at Bluewater with the same, he just looked silly.

Thing is, some of us have to have our teeth veneered / built up for dental reasons. They try to make them look natural and definitely not Turkey white. But you don’t get the separation there is with untreated teeth.

I met a guy in his 60s who I hadn’t seen for a while and when he smiled I was dazzled by the whiteness. It looked so wrong it was bizarre. They were his teeth but so white! People in their 60s don’t have naturally bright white teeth.

I had an interesting conversation with a dentist about this very subject He described the colour as lavatory bowl white, which made me laugh. I understand that many things can change the colour of your teeth, including taking a lot of antibiotics. I think as long as teeth are clean and looked after that it fine.

I don't mind the teeth; it's the desire for cow bum lips I can't fathom.

My 2 top front teeth had root canals years ago and they just got worse colour wise over the years despite internal bleaching procedures. About 6 years ago I finally got crowns put on them after also doing invisalign and ever since my family have made comments about me having 'turkey teeth' and how white they are (they defintely aren't unnaturally white) I take it as a compliment because the surrounding teeth are my natural ones but I feel like people in the UK and ireland definitely have weird ideas about teeth and almost wear bad teeth like a badge of honour sometimes.

If I ever thought of having my teeth done and going to Turkey to do it as it's cheaper there, I only have to see a picture of Katie Price or Jurgen Klopp's Dulux pure brilliant white choppers to think, hmm maybe not.

I work with someone who has blindingly white teeth, but they look pretty natural in terms of size and shape. I plucked up the courage to ask him how he gets his teeth so white, thinking maybe it was whitening strips (where can I buy them?!) etc, but he said he went to Turkey and got his teeth done. He had them filed into stumps and veneers put on top. I don’t understand why anyone would do this.

I had Invisalign and had composite veneers (which are placed over your natural teeth, so no filing) on my top four front teeth (due to chips/the size of the teeth) and whitening, but they look very natural and they match the composite to your own teeth. But, my teeth look yellow next to his!

I haven’t seen many people with “turkey teeth”. I think I’ve seen more people with really bad teeth.

It's just fashion. It used to be fashionable to pluck you eyebrows to oblivion now it is trendy to have larger brows. It used to be edging to have Tattoos, now they are ubiquitous that it is more cool for young people not to have them. Turkey teeth or no different.

Basically if you mum has something done you'll probably do the opposite.

I'm having 2 implants put in so thought I'd also get my natural teeth bleached as I've always been very conscious that they're naturally quite yellow.
They've been bleached to A1 from A4 which to me looks bright and natural, but the dentist was initially almost apologetic that they're not brighter!
I explained I was quite happy with the colour they are now especially given my age (don't want to look like I've got dentures). However, I've since seen one of his receptionists whose teeth are blindingly white so I presume a lot of people want that effect.
I wouldn't have thought Jurgen Klopp would have to go to Turkey to get cheap veneers (not sure about Katie Price), so assume he's chosen that look.

I've only ever seen two people with major trout pouts but they were enough for me to do a double take. Their lips looked like they stood out about 3cms or so from the surrounding skin.
Made me wonder if the skin stays saggy, if not continually filled, like a deflated balloon.

I wonder what they’ll look like in 20 years, same with tattoos and filler.

there’s a world of difference between well cared for from childhood straight teeth, and never smoked, and gone to turkey and had veneers.

True but I think I'd be very wary about getting something permanent done just for fashion. So, I'd dye my hair but wouldn't get a tattoo.
As you say, back in the day it was fashionable to have very thin eyebrows, to the point where my mother shaved hers off. They never grew back and she had to draw them in every day.
Eyebrows seem weird things though. A friend was training to be a beautician and the girls practiced eyebrow waxing on each other. My friend lost part of her eyebrow accidentally and had to have it tattooed back in.

They look like dentures too me but I agrees, they have now become the new normal but it obviously makes them happy.

Never heard of this (not a thing where I live (yet)) but after googling it’s quite shocking actually. Teeth get naturally a bit darker as we age so blindingly white teeth surrounded by a 30+ face look like cheap dentures. Is this the effect people are after?

I presume they don't think it looks like dentures, although I agree it does.
My mother had full dentures and got them privately made so that they didn't look perfect and, therefore, fake.

I live in an area where loads of people have them. They are awful, they are often too big for the facial features and they change the overall shape of the face and the way the lips and mouth move. To me they look like dentures that your granddad would wear.

When I think about how much it must have cost to look so awful it makes me wince.

I whiten my teeth. They are shade B1 and I love them. They're not perfectly straight, though, which doesn't bother me.

When you look at someone you mostly look at their eyes where there is also an expression of friendliness, fear, whatever. Brilliant white teeth distract so you look at them rather than their eyes. So can’t engage as easily.

Normal teeth aren’t one colour - front ones being whiter than incisors and lower teeth (slightly)

Yes - I saw quite a few people with them in Manchester airport a few weeks ago. The quality of the work was shocking but I guess it was the best they could afford.
