MPs who trigger by-elections shouldn't be allowed to stand in them: Politicians pissing people around for their own ends.

What the fuck is Farage thinking, pissing people about like this? I'm pretty sure he wasn't happy at Burnham using the people of Makerfield for his own political purposes and now he's doing the same thing?

And how exactly is it 'taking on the establishment'? Yeah, him and his five million pounds 'taking on the establishment'. He is the fucking establishment. Rich twat who manipulates the rules to suit his own ends, hobnobbing with other rich twats and calling in favours whenever it suits.

What exactly is this pantomime achieving apart from a pause in the investigation into his finances?

Fuck off.

I’m with you there. All the other parties except the Greens (so far) are boycotting it. Farage has been left with egg on his face.

What makes you think they’re boycotting it?

They've said they won't field candidates?

They’ve all said so. Apart from Greens last I checked.

Nousernameideaaga · Yesterday 20:23

OP Thankyou for saying everything i feel and so eloquently

fuck off farage indeed

ThaneOfGlamis · Yesterday 20:38

Sorry, why do we want everyone boycotting? Doesn't that mean Farage gets straight back in and we are back where we started?

Urgentbiscuitrequired · Yesterday 20:40

Yeah, him and his five million pounds 'taking on the establishment'. He is the fucking establishment.

Yeah I've never understood these people saying they are standing up to the establishment, but then they have their lobster lunches, champagne and cocaine with them the next week. You have to be thick as shit not to see that, but then people are.

With him having his finances investigated? Yes please.

It gives him legitimacy and what he wants if others stand.

OMG I would love it if they all boycott except Binface.

Nothing so British as deflating an puffed-up self-important wanker by a good old bit of piss-taking.

The other parties shouldn't validate this bullshit.

It would be quite funny to parody farage himself and have a blatant pretend grifting arsehole running against him.

Urgentbiscuitrequired · Yesterday 20:46

noblegiraffe · Yesterday 19:47

I'm sure that everyone can think of better uses for that public money.

I'm sure Nige can too, and the final resting place would be his own account.

So the people of Clacton have no choice the . I’m sick to death of politicians using the electoral system for their own benefit. It’s not democracy - democracy is letting the people make their choice and their choice getting on and doing the bloody job they signed up for. Folk on Love Island have longer tenures than our politicians.

LuckyHazelFox · Yesterday 20:54

Anyone would think the Makerfield by election was just a dream. One which had far more repercussions than Clacton.

Although I don't understand why winning an election before the investigation into potential corruption is complete would give him any more legitimacy than he already has.

That Andy Burnham is no better. Triggering elections to satisfy his own inflated ambitions. In fact he's worse. I hope his reign is a short one.

Oh that's different somehow. The people of Makerfield being screwed about by a smug twat.

One is the next prime minister, and one the prime minister after that. Or maybe not. Farage isn't some small-fry MP.

He has got a point on the security of his family though. No matter what else you think of him.

noblegiraffe · Yesterday 20:58

I'll have it on the record that Andy Burnham resigning as Mayor and standing as MP purely out of political ambition is also unacceptable.

I'm with Binface that people elected as mayor should serve out their terms before being allowed to stand as an MP.

He didn’t run for a seat he already had.

It’s like me resigning from my job tomorrow and reapplying just to prove my boss still likes me. Fucking needy much.

He’s already got a seat, perhaps he should consider popping to Clacton and sitting in it.

It really not different, we have 5 year parliamentary sessions for a reason, manipulating the process so you can oust your boss is a special kind of wankery - all the better if you can persuade people you’re being honourable in doing so. You shouldn’t be able to resign an elected role and immediately stand for election again.

napody · Yesterday 20:58

noblegiraffe · Yesterday 18:26

However, I think that in a democracy, an MP should be allowed to resign and stand again.

At significant cost to the taxpayer? For the stated reason of 'taking on the establishment'?

How is that not just pissing our money up the wall?

The irony was a clip of him saying "I haven't misused public money" has been all over the news today.

Nobody has actually accused you of misusing public money yet Nige- you're being accused of taking bribes from a convicted fraudster.

But misusing public money is exactly what you're planning with this stupid stunt.

What the fuck has that got to do with resigning as an MP and then immediately standing again as an MP in the exact same constituency though?

It was all part of his speech wasn't it? He seems to have got you well riled up.

I agree on that point too, in fairness. But the two situations aren’t the same, and two “wrongs” don’t make a right.

Farage is a needy, grifting scum bag. Trying to convince the public that he’s a “man of the people,” last I checked my mates aren’t firing me £5m for imaginary security, so not sure which “people” he’s the man of.

He’s an absolute disgrace, and hopefully he’s running out of time.

Jellycatspyjamas · Yesterday 21:02

There was a lot in his speech, most of it bullshit. If he’s genuinely concerned for his families safety he’d remove himself from the political arena where he is undermining their safety.
