Hopefully I am not being unreasonable to post a link to this Facebook post by Kemi Badenoch.

Whether you agree with her on politics generally or not it is surely hard to disagree with what she says here about women:

Totally agree OP, I like Kemi anyway but what she says here is spot on. Enough of ticking boxes.

Shoxfordian · 04/07/2026 10:02

I agree too, I like her approach- will vote for conservatives in the next election

MidnightPatrol · 04/07/2026 10:03

God it’s all so boring, I wish all the parties would focus on improving the country vs squabbling over identity politics.

imprompchu · 04/07/2026 10:04

YANBU imo. Well said that woman.

LlynTegid · 04/07/2026 10:06

I am not sure her comments about meritocracy applied when Boris Johnson was Prime Minister. Women were given the posts which were the political equivalent of doing the laundry, necessary but where you can get no real credit. And those who did not support Brexit being excluded.

ABOOO · 04/07/2026 10:08

I agree too OP.

BathersOnTheLine · 04/07/2026 10:14

Just what the country needs. A woman who for personal political gain criticises other women.

Accusing hard working MPs who have served their constituents for years, in some cases decades, of not wanting to 'get their hands dirty' is pretty bloody low.

I'd be more impressed if she was coming up with ideas to close the pay gap.

Brunchatstephanies · 04/07/2026 10:14

I think a threshold comes where this applies and but I do think that where there is disadvantage things need to be levelled until that threshold is reached. I don’t necessarily think unless we are talking about Iceland that threshold has been reached any where in the world in politics.

I hate this, 'It should be me because I've got a vagina' mentality. Let's all not forget Liz Truss and the damage she did, in 45 days.

I also remember Mandu Reid from the Womens Equality Party declaring loudly that she was the first black bisexual woman political leader. My reaction was a huge cringe and eye-roll. No wonder they didn't get votes and folded!

BathersOnTheLine · 04/07/2026 10:28

In recent years the Tories have been keen to give a woman the top position when the shit hits the fan or their popularity is one the wane. Theresa May and Liz Truss were both allowed to take the fall and then when the dust settles a public schoolboy is brought in to lead the party unsullied by the disaster/cock up.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 04/07/2026 10:29

I admire Kemi enormously but by blaming Labour women she is letting the sexist left wing dinosaurs off the hook.

Yes but isn't this Kemi's point? Women can be good at a job, equally women can be bad at a job.

They are not good or bad because they are women.

We simply want the best person to do the job regardless of gender, race etc!

That is what meritocracy is all about. Getting the best.

I think you might has misunderstood the role of Home Secretary. It's not about laundry and house work. It's about Law and Order, and Immigration etc. It is really important and Boris had a women in that role.

AllaFieraDellEst · 04/07/2026 10:53

I agree with Kemi Badenoch on everything and I've never even voted Conservative in my life...

Nowisthetimeforicecream · 04/07/2026 10:55

I agree with her. I want a job because I'm the best for the job, not because I'm second best for the job but there are shortage of vulvas around a table.

I agree with this.

"'K, me Bad enough" is patriarchal.

She has a point, although I seem to remember most of the candidates were women in Labour's 2020 leadership election.

It is notable that the party which cares much more about identity politics has only ever managed to elect white men as leaders. Perhaps by focusing so much on the sex (and race) of candidates they trigger unconscious sexist (and racist) biases in party members, including stereotype threat among female MPs.

I have noticed in recent years that the left, and especially the unions, are chock full of a particular type of misogynist men. It's quite different from the misogyny on the right - these bros will pay lots of lip service to feminism (or their version of it) while being utterly vile to any woman who does not toe the line. Whether that's 'structural' or simply a large concentration of misogynist lefty bros, I don't know.

I have mixed feelings about AWS. I'm not generally in favour of quotas but when Blair used them to facilitate the election of a huge number of female MPs I think that did reach a sort of critical mass that changed the culture of parliament and the perception of the electorate.

I don't think there should be a quota for Burnham's cabinet. I think Labour just need to sort out their misogynist lefty bro culture and then focus on merit.

They are not going to let her run as leader in the next General Election. They'll find a man to do that. She's operating on a wishful thinking platform.

poletpooh · 04/07/2026 10:59

This.

Exactly, apparently Boris' leaving deal was worse that T May one, but we were meant to applaud a man for going in and getting the job done right

Her individual approval ratings are better than the other party leaders at the moment and they are all male.

LuckyHazelFox · 04/07/2026 11:27

Another fantastic piece from KB. Labour always have to promote the underdog, so of course it pays to keep women in their place. Playing the victim is what gets Labour votes.

Evidence or wishful thinking on your part?

I don't agree with her politics but she is good at her job but I can't see them letting her do more than be a caretaker leader. We shall see.

TwelvePiecesOfFlair · 04/07/2026 11:33

Why wouldnt they “ let her”? She’s hugely popular. I agree with her. Especially about the stereotyping of powerful women as “ more like men”. I hated Thatchers politics, but she was most definitely a woman!
Lab women always seem to be such mimsy girls.
