To block GBNews from my parent’s TV?

My parents retired 4 years ago. They’re both in their 60s, healthy, happy, comfortable financially.

Since they’ve retired they have been sucked in by every single thing they say on there. They can spend an entire day sat in front of the TV getting angrier and angrier. It’s to the point that if Starmer comes on the TV, they shout about how he should be killed.

it’s genuinely starting to concern me. You can’t have a rational conversation with them about anything. I miss my parents, how they used to be before all the conspiracy and anger took over.

I’m genuinely tempted to block it from their tv using parental controls and just pretending it’s some weird fault in their telly. They’d not be able to fix it.

Most of the country think Kier Starmer is a knob regardless of GB news. It's thier house they can watch what they want. It's not healthy for anyone to just sit watching and TV program all day though, do they not have hobbies?

I have family who read it and they worry in London. We live in another city and are used to it so don't worry.

@halfpastten My relative has gone from being right wing and happy to terrified and expecting an invasion. Her grandchildren avoid her because her extreme racism upsets them so much. She recently cancelled a holiday because it was on the coast and Muslims are apparently swarming in with guns.

You could choose to get your information about these cases from an actual News source. One that will give you the facts as they are available, giving you knowledge about legal and material reality. And maybe a bit of empathy for the victims? Useful ways to help?

Im very happy for my friends and family to have widely ranging political perspectives but this is horrible. I’d get a dementia check, if no medical reason behind such behaviour then I couldn’t continue a relationship with them.

Would you feel the same if they admitted to being Nazis ? If not , why? Surely it’s just a viewpoint that they are entitled to?!

You are very naive! Have a look at TR social media and read the comments. People openly and regularly celebrating migrants drowning in the channel . The likes of GB News set people off with a diet of misinformation and fear mongering and let them spiral in to utter hatred.

Dementia check? Fucking hell - this gets worse.

What you consume will affect how you feel, especially if it's all day, every day. I'm currently reading very chilled book about nature and meditation, and I feel relaxed afterwards. If I consumed that type of content, or videos of cute puppies playing all the time, that's how I'd feel. If I was consuming content about things being scary, I would feel scared. If the content was about positive news and people helping each other, I would feel positive about people and the world. It does affect your world view, regardless of what type of content it is.

Social media and GB News are the two worst things to happen to the UK in my lifetime.

They have radicalized people into angry husks of the former selves, and all to serve the interests of a wealthy few.
