To have thought we'd get some sleep at a festival! I think ive made a mistake booking

Was not expecting a great sleep. Official party/dance music carried on to about 3/3.30 which is as i thought and I was assuming we'd sleep after then/this morning. But one tent of people is still outside drinking and are really loud and talking nonesense/shouting. They aren't even young.

This was a treat for my teen but he won't cope with zero sleep. I think ive made a big mistake. 4 more nights.

Why did you think you'd sleep at a festival? Have you ever been to one?

BirdLandedonmyHead · 02/07/2026 06:48

People will sleep more as thefestival goes on... including when others are naking noise.

Simplepink · 02/07/2026 06:49

Also surely you can just sleep during the day?

JohnnieFedora · 02/07/2026 06:50

😂 it's fine. It's the first night... Just sleep in late.

WhosGotTheKeysToMyBimma · 02/07/2026 06:50

Did you not bring earplugs?

My number 1 item when camping.

TallSturdyGirls · 02/07/2026 06:50

Ear plugs, eye masks and an acceptance of noise to aome level are essential!

Yellow2024 · 02/07/2026 06:50

Is there family camping? We always chose that if we are with kids.

AnonymousCapybara · 02/07/2026 06:50

First night is always the worst. Plus, you'll be so tired after full days at a festival, you'll sleep through more than usual. It'll get (a smidge) better.

Davidroseswoollyjumpers · 02/07/2026 06:52

Yep but not been for years.

I know i sound naive but in fairness the whole place was quietish by 5am apart from one group.

Someone has had a go at them.

Davidroseswoollyjumpers · 02/07/2026 06:57

Earplugs eye mask haven't helped.
I dont think there was a family bit.

I clearly am a bit too old and have forgotten. Hopefully teen DC is exhausted enough to sleep later.

Ask the organisers if you can relocate your tent if it's only one set of people. They may get told anyway - what are the campsite rules?

Sleep til midday and see how you get on.

Davidroseswoollyjumpers · 02/07/2026 07:13

It's a prepitched tent, can't move it. Fingers crossed we are tired enough to sleep later. Lots of coffee today!

If the annoying tent don’t STFU at a reasonable hour tonight, feel free to tell them! I’ll bet all the tents around would either join in or silently agree

Taggiesbeefdaube · 02/07/2026 07:29

Im going to a festival in August and I have to say Im absolutely dreading it. I was talked into it and if I could possibly get out of it I probably would at this stage (but going with a group so it's difficult). I'm not good on noise and crowds. What was I thinking?!!

waterrat · 02/07/2026 07:31

hey Op Im a veteran of many festivals - been to so many different ones from glasto to smaller ones and actually this would also annoy me.

However you have to plan where you camp to avoid this. It only takes one group of drunks to ruin things - I moved my tent at Shindig festival one year because a group of 'stag's were singing loudly until about - I kid you not - 11am from 3am onwards.

Best is familiy camping or quiet camping - however family camping - kids get up at crack of dawn!

there are usually quieter spots. Pre erected tents can sometimes by noisy as people who don't usually camp may be worse behaved!

waterrat · 02/07/2026 07:32

@Taggiesbeefdaube it's all about where you sleep. Stay in glamping/ quieter camping or off site.

I would not camp in general camping ever again. Honestly it's al ottery and you could be next to a group of teens on drugs or adult men on the piss with no manners.

cuckoolodger · 02/07/2026 07:33

Currently at the formula 1 and we’re are in an accessible electric area. Was very noisy until about 2am and none of us slept particularly well but that’s to be expected as its the first night, unusual beds AND then add on the noise etc. honestly tonight will be better.

Yellow2024 · 02/07/2026 06:50

Me too but the downside is:

Crying babies over-stimulated, under-slept, ill or whatever.

Younger children up very early because tents are bright and playing, shouting etc in the early morning.

None of it bothers me. I usually wear earplugs if it does but you get used to the noise (and so tired) so it gets easier. But I’m always happy bit knackered at the end.

A post lunch nap helps.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 02/07/2026 07:35

@waterrat Or adults on drugs and everyone pissed. Plus people nicking your gear and then there’s the rumours of tents being torched so no one sleeps. Anyone who needs peaceful sleep is probably in the wrong place.

heyjudena · 02/07/2026 07:38

What did you expect?

Genuinely. You’re at a festival, during the World Cup. People are going to stay up all night.

OneShyQuail · 02/07/2026 07:47

We must have been very lucky (although not a festival but the F1) we camped with children for a few years from their ages of 4 and 10, never really had an issue, we all slept well yes they went to bed later than usual but we were all tired from the walking and campsite was quiet from 11 (entertainment stopped).

I used to do festivals pre kids but I cant remember ever worrying about slerp and noise (probably because I had no kids to worry about though!)

Have you got ear plugs/eye mask? What festival is it?

DidYeAye16 · 02/07/2026 07:48

The only way I could ever sleep was with ear plugs, but I never liked to cause then you don't know what's going on around you. Someone wandering in the wrong tent. T in the park back in the day they used to set tents on fire on the last night.

The first night's usually the worst then people are shattered, unless you're next to a lovely group out their faces. Which is usually a given at a festival. If it's the same tonight complain to security. I'd have hoped pre pitched areas wouldn't be as bad as general camping areas. I also found I just got used to it after the first night/was so shattered I crashed out.

RoseOliviaAu · 02/07/2026 07:57

It’s a festival. That’s what they’re like - people will party from Wednesday through to Sunday like I did as a teen. They may only eat a handful of cereal and you will all smell awful at the end.

People who want sleep at festivals book spots in family camping or luxury camping.

BathersOnTheLine · 02/07/2026 07:57

All night noise on some level has pretty much been a given at every festival I've ever been to. I can't imagine why anyone would expect anything else. People are there to party.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the security tent when people go in complaining about noisy neighbours at a festival of noise.

Same at Leeds and Creamfields. We used to leave the evening of the last night to avoid the fires and fights
