Would you still view the house?

My house is up for sale and we have a reactive dog, its a collie, barks and bounces about in the window like a wild animal when people pass, would this stop you viewing a house?

Collies are lovely, true. Under-exercised, under-stimulated, untrained intelligent dogs like collies are not so lovely.

No one's asking the buyer to take the dog on!!

Yes really the majority of of dogs owners are oblivious to how vile and nauseating the stench of dog is
trotting out the line of “my dog doesn’t smell “

They're not oblivious.
We have dogs and they make a house stink!

But it's not hard to de-dog the house!

Point proven
it’s very difficult to get rid of the smell

The dog won't be there during viewings and the estate agent will be doing the viewing so we can leave with him but I haven't had a single viewing and theres a family debate over wether the dog is the reason why so I wondered if you personally would still view the house if you drove by and saw the dog in the window

Personally i didn’t do any drive bys of specific houses before viewing. Only the general areas.

Yes it's a semi and surprisingly not had any complaints and all talk to us

I'd hate to be your neighbour with all the barking. I hate my own neighbours because they let their dog bark at everything that passes.

Doubt this is putting people off booking a viewing in as I’m not sure why you assume people would be standing outside and looking at your house before booking in a viewing.

Presumably your house is on the various property and the estate agent websites and in their window. Most people I imagine don’t do a drive or walk past before booking in a viewing.

We’ve viewing properties at the moment and while we’ve spotted a few potential houses by chance as we’ve walked or driven past signs on the way to other places, the majority we’ve booked to view were through property websites.

We might then do a quick look at the street on Google Maps but generally we wait until we visit the house to check out the surrounding roads.

Obviously no one really wants to cope with a strange and bouncing dog when viewing a house (I don’t and I love dogs), but you say it won’t be there for the viewings.

How long has it been on? It’s a hard time to sell at the moment. It’s always things like price, location, condition, and competition - if your house is in a similar bracket to other houses but they have something extra, a bigger garden, an extra loo, better condition, closer to amenities, parking, etc. - that drive viewings. Are the photos good?

It wouldn't put me off viewing but I'm very aware that I don't like the idea of living in a home that's had outdoor pets like cats and dogs so I think I'd subconsciously be looking for problems in a more hypervigipamt way than I would be if I didn't think a pet lived there.

Mentally I'd be expecting to price in a full stripping and refit of carpets and looking for damage to Skirting boards in a way that I wouldn't be if I didn't think a pet lived there and making an offer accordingly. I know this is a me-problem, but if you're keen to sell and it isn't shifting, it might offer some insight into why people might offer less than the value of the bricks and mortar.

Eta, same with the outside space, I'd ve expecting it to have been used as a toilet and it grosses me out so I'd see a pet house as less desirable than a non-pet house and I'd be expecting to redo it.

Thank you everyone for posting, doesnt look like the dog is the reason I don't get any viewings but it does have an effect on it, I'll get some new photos done to see if that helps
