AIBU to ask if I can report my neighbour's bright blue house?

I live in a terraced house. My neighbours have painted the back of their house bright blue (think swimming pool blue / like the Mikanos blue). It is horrible and looms over my garden. It’s really going to spoil my enjoyment of my space to have to look at this every day. I spoke to the wife earlier this morning and said it was not to my taste and would they consider changing and she said ‘the beige of your house isn’t to my taste but it’s your house. This is my house.’ And shut the door in my face. WIBU to report them to the council? Can I even do so? Surely you can’t just paint any offensive colour and expect neighbours to live alongside it?

There is a beautiful town in Tunisia called Sidi Bou Said where all houses and buildings are legally required to have white walls and specific blue accents for their doors, windows, and shutters, to preserve the town's famous architectural heritage and aesthetic.

I know - quite agree with you. Fancy being allowed to paint your house beige!

Brilliant 👍!

I have a large bright pink detached house with deep blue/purple sills. So far, all my visitors have been very complimentary about it. 😁

Can you attach a picture?

THIS CANNOT BE REAL 😂

Hey OP - why don't you paint the back of your house swimming pool blue so she can look at it, and she could paint the back of her house beige in return so you can look at it?

LeaderBee · Today 16:58

Imagine being this much of a Hyacinth Bucket.

fiorentina · Today 16:59

I do see why you’re frustrated if they are period properties and this is very not in keeping with that period or the overall neighbourhood. Equally it is their choice.

However I’m curious as to how much you’d really see it. I used to live in an Edwardian semi and really didn’t spend much time looking at next doors house even if I was down the garden. Can you add more greenery to your border, climbers on your house, and I feel sure it will still remain an oasis for you. Better blue paint than load noise.

Report! Report! I'm going to report you for not being BEIGE!!

I actually love that. I'd never do it to my own house, but I'd love it if one of my neighbours was brave enough.

Bloozie · Today 17:02

I suggest turning your sun lounger round to face the other way.

Because they can paint their house whatever colour they like.

And I think that blue is gorgeous, as it goes.

tsmainsqueeze · Today 17:04

One person's offensive colour is another person's perfect choice.
It's subjective , the neighbours response was correct .
Perhaps plant some leafy green plants nearby to break up the blue, it could end up looking like a nice backdrop .

It’s pretty rude to challenge what she chooses to do with her house so I think it was a warranted response. My neighbour has gravelled his entire garden with shiny white gravel. It’s hideous but it’s his garden.

That sounds more like an muti occupied grave, have he got low chains around the edges? I see a lot of these in my line of work, and I can't look at coloured gravel chips in gardens without thinking wonder who is buried there.😆

Ah. I see. As they say, ignorance is Bliss.

And ridiculousness is quite amusing.
It’s a wall painted blue, not a photorealistic mural of Donald Trump in fishnets and a thong.

Jhm88 · Today 17:07

Reporting because the colour of a house is not to your taste. Good one, troll.

Mygardenshedisfallingdown · Today 17:08

My bungalow is built with bricks like Lego, and they are fading now but coloured grey,😁 yellow, light green and brick red. This is probably outing but who cares.

That would certainly "misalign" my "visuals"!

If my neighbour did this I would paint my house buttercup yellow, that would look really good and I would hope my other neighbour would pick a good colour too. There are quite a few multicolor streets In Bristol imo it looks brilliant.

RudolphTheReindeer · Today 17:10

Katey83 · Today 14:05

I found it quite rude!

Why was it rude? Because she didn't bow down and agree to repaint her house to your liking?

BotterMon · Today 17:26

I think it sounds lovely. There are a couple of terraces near me where each house is painted a different colour. England is so dull.

Just sit with your back to it OP then you don't see it. Not difficult.
