AIBU to dislike the new Robinsons advert about school behaviour?

I know I’m a bit of a miserable old bag, but does anyone else hate the new Robinsons squash advert. The teacher tells the mum about a problem at school pick up, she promises to have words and address it. They walk home in silence, sit down and just start giggling.

I know what it’s trying to say, but given how many teachers struggle with kids behaviour and not feeling the parents support them. This advert just normalises that.

My DS wasn't suspended when he was in a similar situation but I did refuse to meet with the HT to discuss the thick lip he gave his bully and told him not to do his detention.

Their view was also that he should have run off and told a teacher - I never got an answer when I asked it that'll be the same teacher who'd witnessed this kid punch DS several times and was found out to be lying about it when they checked the CCTV 😤

I didn't give DS any Robinsons that day though but he did get a Playstation game he'd been after 😬

I went in for the post-suspension meeting with the deputy head before DS was allowed back into civilised society. The tone was quite interesting and completely different to the official communications. Almost like he also privately thought that the suspension was unwarranted. Or maybe I'm projecting. Either way, the two boys were fine again by lunchtime the following day. Storm in a teacup.

Oh gosh you can't say that on Mumsnet! Teachers are saints dontcha know 🤣

Don't be ridiculous.

BeachTimeIsBliss · 29/06/2026 11:58

Well nobody knows what he got told off for.

My son and his friend once wrote notes for each other from their "mums" to excuse them from dance class, and they were caught and got told off. I thought that was quite funny and never gave him a punishment.

Thank goodness someone else thinks this and it's not just me. I have always found this advert irritating and giving the wrong message but have not thought of complaining.

No-one will need to write in and complain.

Just stop buying it. They will take action on free falling sales far faster then re-acting to complaints.

It's the McCains one that boggles me. All that family are eating for dinner is a bowl of chips and a plate of raw tomato slices. What a way to live.

And as usual, 'serious mum' comes to spoil the fun 🙄

Beryls · 29/06/2026 12:24

When i was a teacher some of the stuff I had to tell parents that their child had said/done I couldn't barely keep a straight face myself.

It's an advert for some juice, it's not serious.

I don't but it! Never have.

You can still be concerned though about the message it's giving

Crunchymum · 29/06/2026 12:41

I was irrationally annoyed that she didn't run the bloody tap! The water would have been tepid.

Also wasn't she called in from work to collect the child? So it wasn't after school it was during the day and quite frankly if you are getting a call about something behaviour wise and asked to collect your kid in the middle of the school day then it is BAD ?

I agree with you. I am concerned too.

I was saying no-one should worry if they haven't complained. If you're a customer, just stop buying.

Their sales will fall dramatically and, when forced to scratch their heads and wonder why, they will tumble to the solution that people are reacting in a negative way to that dreadful advert.

I complained about an advert I found really sexist awhile ago.... It didn't take long and made me feel better at least - https://www.asa.org.uk/make-a-complaint.html
