AIBU to dislike the new Robinsons advert about school behaviour?

I know I’m a bit of a miserable old bag, but does anyone else hate the new Robinsons squash advert. The teacher tells the mum about a problem at school pick up, she promises to have words and address it. They walk home in silence, sit down and just start giggling.

I know what it’s trying to say, but given how many teachers struggle with kids behaviour and not feeling the parents support them. This advert just normalises that.

Not unreasonable at all, it's a crap advert and I'd be put off buying their products because of it.

Floppyearedlab · 29/06/2026 10:10

Kids that age shouldn’t be drinking that crap anyway.

It’s been around for a while and I complained to Robinsons about it last time it was on. I thought they’d given up on it, but apparently not. I can’t imagine what possessed an advertising team to think that it’s funny to downplay poor behaviour in school, as well as encouraging the purchase of sugar crap.

Ablondiebutagoody · 29/06/2026 10:22

Better than firing off an email or otherwise moaning to school about it. DS's school is super-strict and I understand why they need to be. When he receives an (in my opinion) unwarranted punishment, he sucks it up and we balance things out with a treat at home. Something better than a glass of squash though.

swqa · 29/06/2026 10:24

It's not new and there's been a couple of threads about it but I agree, YANBU OP.

TheJuryIsOut · 29/06/2026 10:24

Yeah I agree, totally undermines teachers

PinkPonyAnonymous · 29/06/2026 10:26

As a teacher, I know which parents are just taking her kid home for a sugar high after a little chat.

Buscobel · 29/06/2026 10:37

You know that the parents with barely repressed mirth, will walk out of the room and tell their child to ignore you.

5foot5 · 29/06/2026 10:39

Thank goodness someone else thinks this and it's not just me. I have always found this advert irritating and giving the wrong message but have not thought of complaining.

I thought there was a thread about it before, I've not seen the advert in a while I wonder if .they thought people would have forgotten, it is so irritating I think it is supposed to.show a positive relationship, but it just shows the mum as his "buddy " and sod the teacher.!

It's the McCains one that boggles me. All that family are eating for dinner is a bowl of chips and a plate of raw tomato slices. What a way to live.

Thawtfulpanda · 29/06/2026 10:41

If I was an advertising exec then I'd say it's perfect. People who give their dc squash for school are already people who roll their eyes are school rules because most places say no squash, just water. So it nicely says "if you're a cool mum then you'll give your kid our squash like this cool parent here ignoring the teacher...you could be cool like them...just buy our squash...buy it...buy it"

So he messes around at school and you reward him !

Most recently a suspension for defending himself from a violent attack. All the witnesses and CCTV confirmed his version of events. School think he should have run away and told the teachers. His Dad and I disagree. So we took the opportunity for a nice day out.

Oh well as long as he knows it isn't going to be orange juice eh !

So he was in a fight ?

Megifer · 29/06/2026 10:51

Yea initially I was a bit cats bum mouth about it but tbf there were a few times Id been waggly-fingered at school pick up over the most ridiculous thing* meaning me and DC did have a few laughs after Id pretended to be annoyed.

*one time DS took an Iron Man book in to show his teacher as he was so proud he could read it on his own, and she confiscated it and told him off as it promoted violence. That deserved a laugh tbf.

Yes, a boy attacked him. School feel that he should have run away. I don't.

Lomonald · 29/06/2026 10:51

So he was in a fight ?

She has explained what happened.

She has accepted there are school rules and thus her DS was suspended. She privately feels that he was entitled to defend himself and so has not sanctioned him at home.

That is perfectly reasonable. You get a parking fine and pay the parking fine; you don’t self flagellate yourself beyond entering your debit card details and swearing a bit!

Pootles34 · 29/06/2026 10:55

Meh, teachers get things wrong sometimes - we've had similar to @Ablondiebutagoody, it's always the same kid picking on DS, yes we have told him to stand up for himself. Obviously never to start things but no we won't tell him to just take it or go and get a teacher because they never seem to do anything.

Said kid gets star of the week because he's a disruptive little shit.

takealettermsjones · 29/06/2026 10:56

I think it's a weird advert but come on, complaining to Robinson's is a bit OTT 🤣 I'm not sure parents are going to suddenly decide to change the way they deal with their kids' teachers because of a squash advert.

My DS wasn't suspended when he was in a similar situation but I did refuse to meet with the HT to discuss the thick lip he gave his bully and told him not to do his detention.

Their view was also that he should have run off and told a teacher - I never got an answer when I asked it that'll be the same teacher who'd witnessed this kid punch DS several times and was found out to be lying about it when they checked the CCTV 😤

I didn't give DS any Robinsons that day though but he did get a Playstation game he'd been after 😬
