Bums hanging out of the bottom of teeny tiny shorts

Noodleschicken · Yesterday 20:42

Don’t know if this really AIBU or a question!
AIBU to think that shorts have become way too short ?
I have seen a LOT of girls in shorts today - with their bum cheeks hanging out the bottom ! Personally I wouldn’t let my daughter out like that. And I wouldn’t were them myself (I would give everyone nightmares !).
so what’s the consensus on bums hanging out of shorts ?

Young women have been wearing shorty shorts and mini skirts for decades, it doesn't bother me (I used to wear them too).

BUT I do know the kind op is talking about, and they are hideous. They aren't just a bit short, they display areas of underwear that really aren't for public viewing.

Yes. I think a lot of people think we mean hotpants and Daisy Dukes, but we don't. We don't even mean hotpants that show an inch or two of cheek. Honestly, I defy anyone to see what we're talking about in a high street or cinema or train station nowhere near a beach and not have at least some internal reaction. And it's common enough that it's obviously an intentional fashion. I didn't care about scrunch bum leggings (they're ugly but so what) but no, it really is a new thing to have naked arses out in the street. And I really hope it fucks off quickly.

If it's not your kind of fashion - don't wear it.

However, you don't get to bitch about what other people wear and then expect to be able to make choices for yourself.

Either we choose for ourselves, or we have some sort of forced uniform that is decided by ?who - is that what we want? Clothing forced upon us by others.

we are allowed to have an opinion. Of course people can wear what they want I think they can look great depending on how they’re worn and who is wearing them. I would look AWFUL and prefer comfortable clothes anyway

And if you follow the thread you'll see that the café mentioned was at the local cycle track. So there

I think it's definitely time for your nap.

@MasterBeth naked thighs don’t sit on germy toilet seats so Yh there’s ur difference.

Pretty sure when I sit on a toilet seat it’s the upper part of the back of my thighs and mid way up my butt cheeks touching it so that my nether regions are centred over the bowl. It’s certainly not the bottom bit of my ass cheek that would be where a pair of shorts sit…… if I sat that far forward my piss wouldn’t go in the bowl either, no wonder toilets are so manky 🤢

You're quite right.

WHO'S WITH ME??

This is the answer - let’s start a trend in the over 70s - women - and men - to start wearing these super short (almost sanitary pad sized) shorts.
it will kill the fashion almost immediately

I think they look awful but they are everywhere.

I think men walking around high streets/supermarkets/public transport etc with no top on is actually worse than butt cheeks.

I actually think this should be illegal.

AurielleBaies · Yesterday 22:25

I thought we’d moved to a place where women support each other more, but reading this feels like that’s still not always the case.

Oh I’ve not seen that. Nah that doesn’t sound nice.

OonaStubbs · Yesterday 22:26

There needs to be a massive crackdown on this sort of thing.

"it's my bum, if you don't like it, don't look at it" someone reported their DD's riposte as above the other day...I love that reply.
Though, with no DDs (sadly) I have no experience of this myself.

It was only a few years back that boys had jeans slung so low their arses were barely contained. At least ladies bottoms are less offensive. It's fashion-this too, shall pass...

Didn't Alexander McQueen design some bum cleavage trousers decades ago? Will have to google, I suppose on the runway is one thing and running round town with your bottom hanging out is another😂

sweatymessi · Yesterday 22:27

@OonaStubbs pun intended?!

I was a teenager in the 70s and it wasn't as extreme as it is now. Incredible as it may sound to modern ears, most 10-14 year olds then weren't that into fashion. Sure, some were - and as they became older teenagers, some adopted amusing haircuts and crotch-strangling 'parallels', as widelegs were called then. But they were a minority, considered to be easily led due to poor parenting, and therefore more to be pitied than censured.

What strikes me about modern kids is that despite decades of feminism, girl power, Me Too, and all that every schoolkid now knows about patriarchy and the manosphere, grooming, sexting, coercion, consent, harassment, sexualisation... a lot of girls are dressing the way they do.

Guess you can't beat biology. Just that it's better not shoved in your face.

Theres nothing wrong with sexualised dressing, but its for pulling in a club/pub, not going for a walk with your mates in the park or shopping centre or god forbid going to to work or school

Or wearing swimwear on a beach

If you don’t like it, don’t look.

It shouldn't be necessary to avert ones eyes to avoid seeing someone's arse when walking down the street. How would it be if people didn't have the right to wear what they like and instead were expected to keep their arses (and genitals) covered in public?

sweatymessi · Yesterday 22:28

@Lifeomarshe did but that was top bum & not really a major trend

Either that or people just don't want to look at other people's arses cheeks in Greggs.

Hard agree. My daughters 14 and is simply not allowed to wear these shorts knickers outside of the house. I don’t even care if that sounds like I’m from the Victorian age. I am 37 years old. I saw one of her peers in Aldi and yes my eyes nearly popped out of my head. I mean I have eyes. I can’t not see! 👀.

Yes I agree. I find it really hard to see young girls walking around with this provocative look - I feel a natural urge to cover them up!

I hate it. But I also think women should wear what they like. But I also think it’s for the male gaze. But I also… what can you do?

Women often say they can wear what they like but still object to flabby men going shirtless, builders crack jeans etc etc.

Can we question why these particular items become trendy or why cosmetic surgery is on the rise? Or is that unsupportive?

To be fair, I feel like I’ve seen many builders bums bent over to pick up a 4 pack of sausage rolls in Greggs.

but why does anyone care?!

Jollyhockeystickss · Yesterday 22:30

I just think have they had a shower or a bath before they put them on! #skidmarks

indigorising · Yesterday 22:31

Just wish someone would finish the job and walk the high street naked. It’s as though young women and girls are egging each other on. Perhaps a positive outcome would be to desexualise the female body.
