Will the computer say no?

I’ve paid Curry’s for washing machine installation + recycling of the old one. The new machine fits snugly under the worktop with a rubber mat on top.
Am I being unreasonable to suspect they might turn up without a screwdriver and expect me to magically remove the worktop myself? I've tried to get it off myself with a manual philips but the screws are too tight

If you had solid granite worktops you wouldn't expect them to remove them to install a washing machine, so I wouldn't think they'll be expecting to have to do this either.

I would call ahead and let someone know though, at least give them a chance to bring a screwdriver if it's needed as usually they'd just slide the old one out and the new one in.

I did ring Curry's, they said it will be fine, but I've got a task rabbit booked into help at 1pm as a backup, waiting in anticipation 😆

Don’t you have a screwdriver?

I mean, it’s in the OP.

@crushedgrapes I think what the other posters are getting at is that the usual way to install a freestanding kitchen appliance is by pushing it in as they describe. The way to get it to stop dancing around when operating is to have the feet level.

My experience of the big box store installers is that they shrug their shoulders at anything non standard. I suspect this is what you experienced before.

From your description, it doesn't sound like it is beyond the wit of man (or woman) to do, but it depends who you get on the day. Some are more helpful than others. I doubt that they will want to get the worktop off though.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

What did I not understand? Didn't you say that John Lewis were unable to take out the washing machine 10 years ago, and I replied that in that case it must have been a difficult task?

crushedgrapes · Today 12:05

@Ohthisheat Different machine, different house, more a comment on installers finding every excuse to not do something

The OP has come across as extremely rude to people on this post and by her language (asking if someone has a ponytail and calling someone a task rabbit) she seems like an unpleasant person anyway who is dismissive of others and quite frankly I pity anyone who has to deal with her face to face.

There's no excuse for her level of rudeness towards people who have tried to help her.

Task rabbit is a servce you can book - someone comes round and carries out the specified task for you, for money. It is not, as far as I am aware, an insult :)

Well no, it's you who's had posts deleted, so what did you not like 🤣

They removed an old dishwasher wedged under a unit for me. But they did it by sledgehammering the unit top and then dragging it all outside…

Thanks for telling me that 😆 - I apologise to the OP for that coming across as an insult then as I admit it was ME being an idiot. My comment about the ponytail still stands though.

STILL A FEMALE!!

@MNHQ I'm sorry if I have offended you. But I do believe that the OP was being deliberately offensive to other posters and I was initially only trying to offer my former experience of having white goods fitted. My DH leaves all of it to me to deal with.

I would be more than happy if @crushedgrapes apologised to the posters she had been rude towards.

Hi all,
It IS very hot in some parts of the country and so we have already stepped in to remove some fractious posting - could we ask that everyone retire somewhere cooler and sip on a lemonade rather than keep posting in this fashion?

Beautyfadesdumbisforever · Today 12:23

I’ve smiled my way through the thought of needing DIY “skills” and paying professionals to install a washing machine.
what I want to know is who puts a blooming screw down through the top of a worktop.
hope you get it sorted.

elephantball · Today 12:25

My son works as a curry’s installer and he literally pulls out one machine and plumbs in another, if there’s an issue or they can’t install for whatever reason the job is failed and machine returned to warehouse, move on to the next job.
They will do their best but it will literally be one engineer and a drivers mate and they’ll have a whole van of goods to deliver and inevitably some jobs will get failed.
