AIBU to question Thomas Partey playing despite serious criminal charges?

Dingledanglebinglebongle · 23/06/2026 22:37

Why is it not more well known that Thomas Partey, playing for Ghana against England tonight has been charged with 4 counts of rape, 1 count of sexual assault, other reports say 7 counts of rape.

He was banned from entering Canada.

Why is this man allowed to not only be in the World Cup up but allowed to enter other countries?

He may have been found innocent.
But the best that can be said about him is that he turned the taxi that he was in around so that he could go and cheat on his partner, with a woman that his mate had just picked up at a club and then left via the fire exit.

So "innocent" possibly, Scum definately.

Yeah 💯

Not convicted, so no problem. 👍

YANBU. I am absolutely sickened by Declan rice embracing him and grinning in his company. Well done to Djed Spence for refusing to shake his hand. A man of morals.

I think Partay is scum…but it isn’t Rice’s fault is it. That’s his teammate…he can hardly ignore him.

Ex-teammate.

Yes, he very easily could ignore a man who’s been charged with 7 counts of rape and accused of countless other crimes. I would.

Oh no. What can decent men do? NAMALT. It's not easy to affect change. We want to help...

Bare minimum. Don't effusively greet rapists.

Can't do that.

Because unfortunately people don’t care. If a convicted child abuser can compete in the Olympics why are you shocked a man only accused so far would be allowed in the World Cup?

I get the whole innocent until found guilty but it’s still not a good look. But on the other hand I would not want to be prevented working due to an allegation of a crime no matter how serious.

Ah I wondered because they mentioned something about it before the match but I didn’t catch it.

How is he allowed in to the USA then?!

I assume because the USA likely asks different questions.

Darragon · 24/06/2026 01:02

And yet a teacher or a nurse or anyone else doing a normal role would not still be in a job. Footballers have so much more influence and of course incel and rape culture makes boys think they can grow up to be untouchable because all their idols are.

Can you really not see the difference?

Teachers work with children and nurses are in a position of trust with vulnerable people (patients)

A footballer is kicking a ball around. He presumably is not a risk to his colleagues or people he comes into contact with while on the pitch?

Just the women and children he has access to via his position

CalmTheFuckDownMargaret · 24/06/2026 19:36

He’s not guilty. He’s simply charged. He needs to be tried, his defence must obviously be heard and he would need to be convicted. Until then, he can’t be treated as a convicted criminal. Of course he can’t. It’s not a safeguarding issue either as he’s not working with vulnerable people for his job. Look up Mendy - he was accused, charged, tried and finally video evidence cleared him.

Access to?

Does he work with women and children specifically then?

He's in a football team of men, thats his job

Thos teachers and nurses who might be (only might be) suspended due to allegations or charges are also still allowed to be around women and children dependent on what any conditions are.

If theres no conditions that he isnt allowed to be around children for example, then he's allowed around them. Thats not connect to his job at all.

by virtue of his job he has a position of power over these women and children.

Which women and children and what power exactly

Its such a reach

Women are never a criteria on bail conditions in any case. No suspected rapist or abuser of adult women has bail conditions to stay away from adult women

There are times when people suspected or charged with CSA offences will have bail conditions not to be alone with/without the parental permission of a child under 16 or 18.

None of this applies to him

He's free to mingle with wider society. Not playing football would not lower risk

A teacher suspended because they're suspected of a sex crime protect the school and possibly children, the rules are completely different.

Oh I just saw Jimmy Fallon had Connor MacGregor on the tonight show where he fawned over him.

So yeah this bloke playing in the world cup is really no surprise.

Can everyone stop saying ‘found innocent’. That’s not what people are found. They are found to be not guilty and the bar is beyond a reasonable doubt.

Which means a shit load of them are, in fact, rapists. And the vast majority of men charged with rape are rapists. It’s just exceptionally hard to get convictions. For numerous reasons.

Now if I was on a jury, it would be my duty to consider the plaintiff innocent until proven guilty. But in real life, we know men accused, arrested and charged are banged to rights.

That's not how it works. It's innocent until found guilty. So the prosecution are trying to find them guilty. So they either find someone guilty or not guilty. So if they are found not guilty then they are innocent on the eyes of the law.

No. Blackstone means that the system is set up so that guilty men go free. That's one of the principles. Better for 10 guilty men to go free than o e innocent man goes down. Hence why people aren't found innocent. Someone is found not guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. There's still every chance they are guilty on balance of probabilities. But that isn't the standard in criminal court.

Do you actually believe that most men accused of rape but not convicted are innocent? Because I have a bridge for sale.

Oh for the Scottish system to be expanded. Not proven is a great verdict.

Hasn't the Scottish system just been changed to remove not proven?

It’s the country where Jimmy Fallon has just had Connor McGregor on his show. He’ll berate Trump (and rightly so) but he’s lost the argument now he’s had that piece of shit on his show. I don’t think we would stand for it in the uk.

Mainly Arsenal fans, but anyone when you have as much money as him.

But he has no access to Arsenal fans. They simply watch him from the sides.
