AIBU to be amused at the prospect of a Scouse PM?

OK, this is a lighthearted thread. It is not dissing Scousers, I am one.

I have never voted Labour, so I have no skin in the game. However, this morning I had the jolliest chuckle I have had for a very long time.

All because, very shortly, we may have a Scouser as our PM.

Our time has come. We have been undervalued for such a long time. Instead of the usual Eton Educated Old Boys network, we will have a down to earth man with a northern accent running the country.

And no, he is not a pretend working class person. He was born in Aintree, which is actually a couple of miles from where I was born. He is defo not posh. His parents moved to a naice town in Warrington and yes, he has a foot in both Liverpool and Manchester camps. He's an Evertonian.

It will be interesting to watch and see what makes him tick.

2TK is a champagne socialist who laughably trotted out that his dad was a toolmaker and he was working class. Well, I am WC and my kids go to a state school in the burbs of London and their mates are all MC from expensive houses. It is so far a cry from what goes on in other areas. KS doesn't have a clue what it is like for the rest of the country.

I didn't vote Labour, and not sure I still will. However, if AB gets to no.10 I will be glad that at last we have a person who understands what it is like in other parts of the country aside from the south.

AIBU to have a chuckle that our next PM will be a fellow Scouser (maybe)

He could come from the moon for all I care, as far as I can see he's all talk and hasn't got the first fucking clue what he's doing.

He's already announcing what he will do as PM, and there hasn't even been a leadership contest yet. I'd laugh like a drain if someone else beat him to it.

Me too!

TonTonMacoute · 19/06/2026 17:36

KS is trying to clear up 14 years of crap I think he is getting a hard time.

I'm getting bored of this '14 years of crap' crap. All that means is that Labour had 14 years to take note of what was going wrong and to devise a strategy which, as Blair pointed out recently, they have failed to to do.

KS has been Labour leader for six years and in power for two, yet all we have seen are terrible decisions (Peter Mandelson anyone?), a tanking economy, indecision, U turns, aides and advisors being thrown under a bus every time the shit hits the fan and a fair few dodgy ministers.

There is only so far you can go along the line of blaming your predecessors for the absolutely shit job you are doing of running your party - let alone the country.

The upside is that now they are all going to be spending so much time fighting like rats in a sack that hopefully they won't have the time to screw things up any more than they have already.

@Sartre , neither of which are WC occupations imo. In your opinon. Both could have been considered blue collar jobs then.

@Lomonald , Also KS didn't go to Eton What's that got to do with anything?

Because the op was going on about "old etonions"

OldSwan · 19/06/2026 17:44

They were left a shit show - Cameron and Osborne made a lot of damage including Brexit. Much of Europe is in a similar mess to the UK because of the war in Ukraine and the troubles in the Middle East.
Peter Mandelson got the post because of Trump.

BeardySchnauzer · 19/06/2026 17:44

Teresa May was a grammar school girl, John major hadn’t been to uni. I don’t think class defines the parties

bit actually butnham being an Oxbridge graduate pushes him closer to the last few Tory leaders 🤣

There re huge issues in France and Germany economically. But for some reason we never really hear much in the media about stuff going on in our European neighbours. Much more interesting to obsessively follow everything happening in the US

Your argument falls down when you see that gobby oaf Richard Burgon has a degree from Cambridge. He's got the class (and intellect) of a dessicated dog turd.

BeardySchnauzer · 19/06/2026 17:50

I never said they had intelligence in common

Superhansrantowindsor · 19/06/2026 17:51

Labour have such a massive majority they could have pushed through loads of stuff that was radical. They don’t seem to have done that much. Either they haven’t done much or they are rubbish at communicating with the electorate about what they have done. Of the top of my head the main thing that comes to mind is VAT on private schools. To me that looks like a personal pet policy rather than something that would bring massive benefits to society.
My dream is for huge investment in schools, scrapping tuition fees, improving public transport and improving the NHS.

OldSwan · 19/06/2026 17:54

Lomonald · 19/06/2026 17:42

Because the op was going on about "old etonions"

Of the 58 Prime Ministers the UK has had 20 were old Etonians.
Quite a few others went to well-known public schools - seven were educated at Harrow School, six at Westminster School and two at Winchester College.

I dislike the misuse of 'Old Etonians' being used for anyone educated privately. George Osborne isn't an OE but it was often said he was.

I don't particularly hold which school someone went to against them. Isn't it their parents' (and the school's) decision?

ScouserForPM · 19/06/2026 13:31

I have hope for him.

I just don't want the status quo. If he leans hard left and I pay more tax, but that means deserving people get better NHS treatment and quicker doctors appointments, then I’m ok with that.

In contrast. If someone got in and emptied out and stopped the wave of illegal undocumented males entering our country, that would secure my vote too.

I just want someone bold to get shit done.

I want him to get people off benefits and into work. The majority of the unregistered males is down to the amnesty given by the Tories

Sartre · 19/06/2026 13:12

Starmer isn’t working class at all. His dad literally owned the business and mum was a nurse, neither of which are WC occupations imo. He grew up in a semi his parents owned in a leafy area. None of that falls into WC category.

Nursing used to be a working class occupation, one that could be entered into by primarily women with only compulsory education. Now it requires a degree think it’s debatably middle class.

I’ve never seen any source claiming Father Starmer owned the factory - have you?

BeardySchnauzer · 19/06/2026 18:34

I feel like Wes beats them both on working class credentials tbh.

I always feel with AB that he tries too hard ti lean into the northern working class stereotype tbh

And that’s great but surely he wouldn’t dare? The only people I know of who would happily pay more tax are on MN.

The issue is that, no matter how much tax they rinse us for, I don’t believe the services will improve in any way.

Anarchy99 · 19/06/2026 18:36

Tbf the entire party is a shower of shit.

OldSwan · 19/06/2026 18:39

He grew up in a semi his parents owned in a leafy area. He was born in 1962. House prices would have been more affordable then.

😂I can assure you, most nurses are definately not mc.

I agree with this. As someone living down south, the things I’ve had said to my face in the past are appalling. Sometimes I wish we were the 10th protected characteristic in the Equality Act.

Is it not xenophobia?? Anyway whatever it is I have had it loads of times, and people really do think it’s ok! The whole victims/ bin dippers etc. I am really proud to be from such a unique, historical city. The only one to me that comes close is Newcastle IMO

Having lived on 4 other countries, and lived in the SE for 17 years I can hand on heart say that people from Liverpool are the only people I fully trust.

I often get it in the neck for being a straight talker and saying it as it is, but I’d take that any day over the smile, fake friendliness and agree then bad mouth behind your back and do something different, that I experience regularly.

I have decided that being Scouse is actually my secret weapon.

I find it odd when Londoners are criticised for thinking they’re better than everyone else but then it’s fine for ‘everyone else’ to think their particular place/people are the best

He’s definitely not the King in the North in my bit of the North!

Sorry you met such rubbish people. I feel lucky to have met people from all over who I have loved and trusted.

Rachelshair · 19/06/2026 20:26

It's appalling Labour are infighting and want to get rid of Kier, he's done a lot, most notably telling Trump to get stuffed over Iran. We need stability. The country voted for Keir. Andy is not intellectually on the same level as Keir from what I can see.
And we don't want a Reform mayor in Manchester, which this ego trip could lead to.

There is a vast difference between thinking that you live in the best place, rather than thinking YOU are superior to other people.
