AIBU to leave Center Parcs a day early

Staying in the Lakeside apartments at Winfell and it’s so noisy and the pillows are unbearable I’m so grumpy from lack of sleep! Just me and DS and he won’t do any activities. The swimming is great but not sure I can just swim all day again!

What would be the point in staying, when you don’t want to be there?

Loulou4022 · 14/06/2026 09:52

This sounds miserable! I’d head home to my own bed!

TheWardrobeIsThere · 14/06/2026 09:53

I always take my own pillow everywhere, to hotels, CP, friend's houses if I am staying over. It might be worth considering for your next holiday. Oh and my pillow is easily replaceable if I forget it, never have though.

How old is your DS? Does he understand that there are loads of things to do? Could you go on a bike ride, take a walk, go to one of the play areas?

If you think you can salvage the day I would try but if not, pack up and go home.

😂, I think you may be on the wrong thread , but finding hairy soap at Center Parcs would make me leave a day early too .

We always take our own pillows! You so rarely get decent ones in rental places or hotels (unless you are in a VERY expensive hotel) and we can't sleep without a good one.

Horispondle · 14/06/2026 10:30

He’s 11 and his sister is away on a trip so I thought this would be good bonding time and a treat for him but I guess he’s not used to doing the activities without his sister and he just won’t agree to do anything. I took him round the sports centre and showed him all the activities on the app but he refused!

I never occurred to me to bring my own pillow but will certainly do it now! I guess I thought the apartment would be a bit more like a hotel but it’s definitely not and I’ve definitely never had pillows this bad anywhere else I’ve ever stayed!

Ive never left a holiday early before either but given the faff of trying to get out the accommodation by 10am it’s making more and more sense just to leave today!

Would he do an activity you can do together? Archery, Segway, pottery painting, etc? If not I’d spend the day swimming, chilling and eating and leave this evening to avoid the morning rush.

miaCara · 14/06/2026 10:39

We often leave early checkout places the evening before. We wring as much out of the day as possible and then after a leisurely last meal pack up and go when the roads are usually a lot quieter. Its not worth staying for a poor nights sleep just because its paid for.

MauveLibrary · 14/06/2026 10:39

Are there any other activities you could do together and have a relaxed morning and a leisurely lunch and make your way home later this afternoon? How long is your journey home?

JLou08 · 14/06/2026 10:45

Does your DS want to leave? If not, it would be quite mean to cut his holiday short. Why not let him go for a swim himself and you have a walk/spa/chill in the lodge? Or would he like some walks and a relaxing day? I don't do many of the activities there, usually just one per break and the rest of the time is spent in the pool, walking or in the lodge.

A858 · 14/06/2026 10:51

You are not being unreasonable for leaving a place you don’t enjoy, but you are a bit for leaving over a bad pillow. Worst case I’d sleep without pillow or fold a jumper to rest my head on it (yes, avid camper).

AlphabetBird · 14/06/2026 10:51

Mini golf is a good choice to do together. I would leave too, but maybe have another swim together and then try one low key activity this afternoon and head home for dinner - takes the pressure off bit

JanBlues2026 · 14/06/2026 10:56

Is there anywhere to visit offsite for a day out?

We always take my daughters pillow with us but after accidentally leaving one behind we make sure it has a really bright pillowcase instead of our usual white ones so that it stands out!

LumpyandBumps · 14/06/2026 11:32

I go to a different Center Parc and the pillows there are always lovely, so maybe worth asking housekeeping if they have others?
mot drive to a nearby supermarket and buy some. There are several within 5 miles or so.
It seems a shame to miss out on a night away.
Center Parcs don’t expect much of you at check out, so 10.00am is not as bad as it would be in some Airbnb’s.

JustKeepSwimmingJust · 14/06/2026 11:35

Are there boats you can hire together?

Bothy · 14/06/2026 11:38

Would DS enjoy swimming all day? If so I would stay and swim for his benefit.
I agree it's probably more fun for children to do activities with their siblings but people with only children must manage somehow?

LumpyandBumps · 14/06/2026 11:40

Sorry, my last post needs editing but I am not seeing the ‘edit ‘ button where is normally is.

SunnyRedSnail · 14/06/2026 11:42

Surely this is about your DS? And if he is happy swimming all day then stay.

Why can't you do the activities with him?? They're not just for kids.

I stayed somewhere similar and did a tubing thing with my kids on a slope. So much fun.

plasticplate · 14/06/2026 11:48

They probably won't let you bring your car up to pack up if you do decide to leave early.

Toddlerteaplease · 14/06/2026 11:51

Go to the Lake District proper! It’s not far.

Bjorkdidit · 14/06/2026 11:53

Maybe go out of CP for a bit, buy a pillow and something nice for dinner from a supermarket and go for a walk elsewhere.

Then come back for a last swim and go home tomorrow as planned?

You can bring your car round early to pack up. If your D’s is happy to swim and bike ride I would do that, have a bite to eat and head off late afternoon.
