Stickers on badly parked cars?

I live in beautiful village by the sea which gets lots of visitors on sunny days. We have loads of parking but invariably people will try and park as close to the shop as possible.

This might mean driving up on to grass and leaving their car there while they go in to the shop 'for just a minute '. We are ALL going in to the shop for 'just a minute' but that doesn't mean we can park in a way that obstructs others or damages grass and flowers.

Some people literally just stop in the lane of traffic outside the shop and go in. Leaving everyone behind them to wait for a break in traffic coming from the other direction to get around them.

I don't think there is any way to really stop the behaviour but I am strongly considering putting stickers on the driver's window saying that they parked badly. A quick Google tells me such stickers exist.

Has anyone done this? Any particular ones you'd recommend?

I’d just go for stickers that say ‘twat’

LlynTegid · 13/06/2026 15:40

Zealous traffic wardens and the appropriate parking restrictions is what you need. Also higher penalty charges for SUVs.

I'd prefer points on licences, but sadly unlikely to happen.

Sausagenbacon · 13/06/2026 15:44

I have large stickers in my handbag, and have written 'this is a pavement, please don't park on it' or somesuch.
I stick one on the back and one on the screen.
My neighbourhood is populated by posh twats in monster cars, and the roads are narrow.

The Police can issue points for parking but sadly don't usually

Yanbu and I agree with you- but do you really want to reduce your life to watching out for and stickering badly parked cards. It’ll make you bad tempered and resentful.

cbbo · 15/06/2026 08:57

The stickers will only make you feel better. Won’t make any difference to the recipient of the sticker!!

Poppingby · 15/06/2026 09:03

It sounds annoying but if you make it your life's work to stop it by putting a mean little sticker every single time it a) won't work and b) puts a load of bad energy into the world. Also you actually don't know the truth of every single car's predicament (I'm thinking of the time somebody had a go at me for parking in a contentious spot when I was actually pulling over because I had a puncture and had no idea about the parking history).

I think I'd try to find out whichever part of the council is responsible for it and try to get something systematic put in place instead. Doing it one car at a time won't work anyway.

We don’t even live anywhere beautiful, we live in a shithole area and any bit of grass verge is parked on and churned up.

A local street which has a sliver of grass and a lovely line of trees is destroyed by tarmac because people want drives. And the rest of the area is swamped twice a day by parents who can’t let their secondary school darlings walk more than 20 yards. Again, the few bits of nice green grass we have get churned up by people who just don’t care where they park as long as it’s as near as possible.

It’s the way of the world now op - it is sad that people don’t respect nature and beauty as they find it - convenience and self interest is more important.

I wouldn’t waste your time with stickers. If they’re transient visitors it won’t solve the problem. Just sigh and think it could be worse - at least you don’t live in a shit hole like me.

We have a ‘sticker wanker’ where I live.

We have communal parking at the back of our house (not marked out, but can usually get 4 cars parked in each area). My son parked his car a few weeks ago and because the car next to him had taken up too much space, once they moved, it looked like my son had parked and taken up too much space. This meant that only 3 cars could park and not 4.

The following day a sticker wanker had put a rude sticker on his car, but they put it on the rubber part between his doors (he has a C1). It’s been a nightmare to get off.

Let’s just say that the wanker who put the sticker on his car won’t be doing it again, when I find out who did it.

managingexpectations · 15/06/2026 09:32

You’d go to the expense of buying stickers and waste your time putting them on the cars? If a driver caught you and confronted you what would your reaction be? What if they accused you of damaging the vehicle?
I really don’t think I would waste my time.

Yes I agreed inconsiderate parking is annoying and sometime dangerous. I don’t think it’s reasonable to start stickering cars though. I’d just think what a wanker and drive on

Sausagenbacon · 16/06/2026 18:24

I'd rather be a sticker wanker than a parking wanker tbh.

No, it doesn't make me angry or miserable or angry (sorry)
No, I don't go out specially to find pavement parked cars. I have a few in my handbag, and use them when needed. Which isn't often.
Actually, it does make a difference.

As I've said, I live in an area with narrow roads. I really don't care about annoying the kind of twat who feels they need to have a SUV and have parked it on the pavement.

AnnaQuayRules · 16/06/2026 18:26

I've got a really cheap lipstick in my glovebox and have been known to write on someone's window when they are parked illegally. It doesn't cause any damage but is a pain to get off

Along with ignoring shoplifters, drug use and many offences against women.

Darragon · 16/06/2026 18:29

It sounds really satisfying but do you think the time and money spent on this will actually be effective in changing people's behaviour? If it's not the same people over and over, then probably not.

LeaderBee · 16/06/2026 18:31

All sounds a bit Kareny to me.

Temporaryname158 · 16/06/2026 18:32

Go onto the parking like a wanker Facebook page for inspiration!

What do you mean by this?

AnnieApples · 16/06/2026 18:34

I think a snippy note under the windscreen is ok, but those utter morons on social media who put those (seemingly very difficult to remove) ‘you park like a wanker’ on windscreens and then gleefully film the driver returning to the car don’t deserve any encouragement. They’re just vigilante thugs.

aliceyyyy2654 · 16/06/2026 18:35

A lot of cars have dashcams which record even when the car is locked and empty. What would you do if you get caught vandalising someone’s property?

Ferro · 16/06/2026 18:35

YANBU but this is Mumsnet so you can expect posters saying putting a sticker on a car is criminal damage and almost certainly terrorism.

LeaderBee · 16/06/2026 18:36

paddEpower · 16/06/2026 18:33

What do you mean by this?

I mean it sounds an awful lot like someone poking their nose in more than they really should and having an air or righteousness about themselves when they do it.

They might have a point about the parking but their way of going about it sounds quite self entitled in itself.

ThatGreenFawn · 16/06/2026 18:36

It can be classes as criminal damage and vandalism if the sticker marks the car and lots of cars have cameras on them so you could best at rik of prosecution .

purplecorkheart · 16/06/2026 18:38

My local town had an issue with people doing similar. The business they were visiting put a massive sign saying beware Council have a camera facing the business and are issuing fines, to avoid having to pay please use carpark as we do not want you fined. It actually worked and the business got thanked.

In regards to stickers I would be a bit wary. Would you be liable if removal caused damage or if say they removed a sticker from the windscreen and some glue remained on could they claim in event of an accident that the glue obscured their vision.

FKAT · 16/06/2026 18:39

A twitter account called YPLAC (work it out) does stickers I believe. Or used to.

That said, I think it's moderately amusing to think about but won't actually change any behaviour. There is nowhere to park in this country. Too many people, too many cars, narrow roads and not enough spaces. You can't even pay to park. I drove my son to the dentist two weeks ago and nowhere to park within a 20 minute walk. Nowhere. I had to park in a private car park safely, without obstructing anyone but still illegally. The alternative was miss the appointment and risk being removed from the dentist list (NHS). Luckily I didn't get a ticket.

icouldholditwithacobweb · 16/06/2026 18:39

YANBU. People can get sniffy about this behaviour and call it vigilante-ism but at the end of the day, if we all held each other to higher standards and it was socially unacceptable to be a complete selfish twat, people wouldn't be such inonsiderate idiots. I'd rather join the sticker wanker club than the parking wanker club tbh!
