Vinted

Why do people make such stupid offers? Someone offered 70p less on an item yesterday! 70p. Is it worth it when it was only £2.50 anyway

OP posts:
LasersInTheJungle · 10/06/2026 09:09

They do it because there's a non-zero chance it'll be accepted and they'll get the item for very little expenditure.

It's not personal. Just engage with the ones you would consider and ignore the rest.

GimmieABreakOr3 · 10/06/2026 09:10

It’s annoying. I think Vinted should allow minimum offer amounts as set by the seller. I hate time wasting offers!

DilemmaDelilah · 10/06/2026 10:20

What is more annoying is people who make an offer, then when you accept it they don't buy it!

With regard to the low offers, it may be to ensure that the total cost does not go over a certain amount. Once you add on the buyer protection and the postage you could be paying more than double the original cost of the item.

AllWasWell · 10/06/2026 14:17

Offers don’t both me. You don’t ask you don’t get. It’s people who make offers then don’t buy which is more of a slight annoyance

GimmieABreakOr3 · 15/06/2026 09:00

I am so tired of people buying items from me and then demanding I post today or asap. Do people not understand that this is a second hand selling site and that sellers are ordinary people with lives and jobs? I’m not Amazon or Selfridges offering next day delivery for your £10 top! It grinds my gears!

MidnightMeltdown · 15/06/2026 11:24

Yes it’s very annoying. I wish Vinted had the option to turn off offers. What’s even more annoying is that this behaviour has spread to other platforms like eBay and gumtree. Even if you haven’t got offers enabled then they message you with an offer! This never used to happen pre-Vinted.

The entitlement really pisses me off.

DilemmaDelilah · 15/06/2026 12:33

@GimmieABreakOr3 I do sometimes ask sellers to post things as soon as they can, if I need them for something specific. I don't demand- I request.

And - as a seller - I ensure that I post next day even if I don't manage it until the evening. Evri and Inpost both have lockers you can access 24 hours a day so parcels can be dropped off before/after work, before/after school - it's really not that difficult.

Before anyone jumps down my throat - I do understand that if you don't live in a town or city it can be more difficult - but not impossible to send within a reasonable amount of time I would have thought?

SJM1988 · 15/06/2026 12:36

Offers don't bother me to be honest. And I always pop an offer in at £1 - 50p less than asking price. That £1 - 50p each time can add up to alot over a year.

But Vinted give you up to 5 days to post. As long as you post within that time frame I think it’s fine. I’m a seasoned seller (ex ebayer) and the entitlement on Vinted is next level.

I do generally post very quickly (2-3 days) sometimes same day as gave a inpost locker right up my road but Evri and DPD are a while away and a right pain in the arse to get to so it takes longer! Esp when you’re busy working etc. DPD is post office and the queues are ridiculous.

You should never rely on buying anything on Vinted or eBay second hand for a flipping event in the same week! Go to Selfridges!

DilemmaDelilah · 15/06/2026 13:02

@GimmieABreakOr3 respectfully - I did not say that I want to receive things the same week. I just ask that they should be sent as soon as possible if, and only if, I need them for something. I allow 2 weeks for them to arrive. Deliveries can take so long that things need to be sent promptly if they are to get here within that time.

I don’t mind at all if someone asks BEFORE buying, however, I think they are being a bit of a CF if they ask AFTER buying.

I post about 90% of parcels same or next day, but there are some weeks when I’m busy it might take 3 or 4 days. In these cases, I really don’t appreciate being badgered by buyers. Obviously I have seen that the item has sold, and I will post it as soon as I am able to.

ThePalla · 15/06/2026 13:13

Because they’ve looked at how much it will cost them, once they’ve paid the extra fee and postage, and it’s 70p above the budget they allowed themself. If they can get it in budget they’ll go ahead. If it pushes the budget, they’ll move on.
if you buy a lot of things for a family on Vinted, and everything is 70p above budget…. It is no longer viable.

DilemmaDelilah · 15/06/2026 13:14

@MidnightMeltdown I don't badger, I ask politely, once. If I need something really quickly I don't buy from Vinted.

That is exactly how I feel too @MidnightMeltdown (love the username btw, lol). If it was agreed prior to sale, that’s fine. That’s an agreement. If after, it comes across as demanding. If they worded it something like I understand it you can’t, but I’d really appreciate if you could send it asap that would be great but don’t worry otherwise, that would be much more respectful.

it’s just buyers not recognising that we are people, not a business…

well, that’s reasonable. The buyer today said she didn’t ask before buying it yesterday because she found out after she bought it that she’s going away and needs it by next Monday! How is that my issue?!
maybe go buy something in a store or take something else. My husband has kindly gone out on his lunch break just now to post it.

MayaLui · 15/06/2026 13:23

Firstly it's not just £2.50, with postage and fees it's more likely £6-7.

I almost never pay full price unless I absolutely love an item. To me Vinted is basically an online car boot sale, it's not in the spirit of it to just pay the asking price! And I also assume everyone slightly overprices in the expectation of being bargained down. It's part and parcel of the platform, sell elsewhere of you don't like it.

OriginalSkang · 15/06/2026 13:27

I make low offers and 50% of the time they are accepted. I agree you should be able to turn offers off if you don't want them

I have to say though that as a seller I put the listing price up to accommodate offers and don't really understand why other people don't do this? People prefer to think they have got a bargain! I'm sure how much you can do that will vary with what you're selling though

What really annoys me is when you decline a really low offer and offer your own, then they re-do the same low price they originally offered! I generally message politely at that point to let them know I'm in no hurry to sell and that I'll consider lower if it hasn't gone in six months

I put in my listings that I will post within 24 hours and do 99% of the time. I always contact to apologise if I'm going to post even 25 hours later

BakeItTilIMakeIt · 15/06/2026 13:31

Having just done a massive upload, it is absolutely bonkers on there 🤯 one of my (designer, new with tags) item is listed for £10 and I’m getting offers of £6; ditto a brand new dress with tags bought for £120 and listed at £20 is getting offers of £10. I’m very up for offers, but I can’t bear the moronic ones and have just started blocking them. Life’s too short and I suspect they would be exactly the buyers who would try and find issues with the items if they bought them.

LordofMisrule1 · 15/06/2026 13:31

Truly doesn't bother me, any of it. Send offers, lowball, send an offer then don't buy, whatever. I might price something at £20 and then someone offers £10 after it's been up a while and I think yeah sure, better to have £10 now than maybe £20 later. Can't be doing with Vinted sellers that get shirty about people using the functionality baked into the website.

ByWittyGoose · 15/06/2026 13:54

Reasonable offers, I consider.
Pisstake offers I block immediately so they don't waste my time ever again.

Nah, it’s bloody annoying getting moronic offers! I don’t mind reasonable ones!!

I think Vinted need to allow sellers to set their own limits.

BakeItTilIMakeIt · 15/06/2026 16:10

I don’t know if people don’t know or don’t care how badly they can come across. One sent me a £5 offer on a £12.50 item that I had only just uploaded and when I hadn’t responded to her within half an hour, sent ‘???’ to me 😂

Jk987 · 15/06/2026 16:13

I hate it when the sale price + fees + postage = more than buying new from a retail outlet.
