AIBU to question the media response to the Belfast attack?

Squirrel001 · Yesterday 08:55

Why are the media being silent on the Belfast attack?

Is the open borders narrative that important to them that they feel the need to ignore one of the most horrific attacks ever seen on a UK street?

I despair for the future of the UK. It’s grim.

@Velumental No he is not in NI. His mother moved from the New lodge area when he was a baby because of the troubles, she had to run often in the night when the Ulster terrorists arrived. His mother and Father experienced this as children and made a pack never to be violent in their home.
I know that it was common for men to beat their wife, men would be mocked by other men if he wouldn’t hit their wife.

Men were allowed to hit and rape their wife in the republic too, it wasn’t as common, NI has generations of fear, violence and trauma, it needs TLC.

I would consider moving to Iran before those estates in NI.
I lived in NI for years in a settled nationalist area, mostly lovely people. These louts are a minority.

Add on.
I remembers a black nurse was chased in Banbridge, she died from an asthma attack, the fear, heartbreaking.
My Dsis is a nursing home manager, she drives her Indian colleagues to the bus stop.
I would definitely protect my neighbours. I have called out racism when I see it. I’d never be rude to a person of colour.
My beautiful niece has two mixed race babies.

I don’t have the solution.
Didnt mean to quote post above.

Edited

My sister has'd to escort a black colleague to hospital last where she gave birth to a premature baby who still may not survive. She's from Sudan

Does the OP condone the stress and fear she's been caused and her potential loss?

Here are "concerned patriots" expressing their "legitimate concerns" out and about in Belfast.

https://bsky.app/profile/rossac.bsky.social/post/3mnuxl2k2lk23

And here is Tommy Robinson, who lambasts whole civilizations as "backward and evil" because of crimes committed by a few individuals extolling the virtues of "Russian civilisation".

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/jun/09/tommy-robinson-meets-elon-musk-father-moscow

For those who don't know this "guardian of Christian values" is currently conducting a brutal war against its neighbour including trying to freeze its citizens to death, multiple well-evidenced instances of beheading of prisoners of war, torture and rape of civilians, kidnapping children....and that's in addition to "normal"nightime bombing of civilian areas.

Meanwhile state propagandists frequently call for nuclear bombs to be dropped on European cities, including the supposed Russian city of Odessa.

This is the civilisation that Elon Musk, Tommy and all its acolytes actually admire.

Rossa (@rossac.bsky.social)

Big thanks to the DUP, Reform, Tories etc for stirring this up all day. Thugs are now attacking people's homes in Belfast, wrecking hostels, checking cars at roadblocks for 'immigrants', burning vehicles and generally scaring the shit out of people. Ho...

A peaceful protest would be nice.
We’ve had two similar riots down here, it was pointless, takes the eye off the problem and on to the riots so absolutely nothing gained.
You get 1000’s online shouting far right, far left, more division.
Im going to have a social media break soon. It’s exhausting.

LakieLady · Today 09:25

EmeraldShamrock000 · Today 08:28

I agree with you. Unfortunately, the reactions don’t help or solve anything.
They hurt communities and property.
There has been riots and protests all over Europe. Denmark burned down the immigration centre recently. Italy went on strike from work.
If the Governments were seen to be proactive, people would not be so angry.
It’s such a mess.

The Danish fire was started by supporters of a far-right group.

In Holland, asylum seeker accommodation was not only set on fire, but a large group blocked the road to try and stop the firefighters from getting there to deal with it. They literally wanted to burn people alive.

The far-right are gaining power across quite a chunk of Europe and I suspect will be in control of at least a couple more countries (France and Netherlands) to fall to the far right after their next elections.

It's fucking terrifying and it makes me glad I'm old. Hopefully I'll be long gone before much more of Europe falls to fascists.

Wow. I didn’t read into the fire, that’s horrific.
That’s barbarism, not expected from a European country.
I do understand that people are fearful too. They see news stories like Goma prison outbreak in the Congo where a 100 women were raped before being burnt alive.
1000’s of people slaughtered in Sudan and the Congo, people with deep
trauma, much deeper than Northern Ireland arriving here with no support network or mental health support.
No one wants these people in their life, whether they’re from Denmark or the Congo.

smallglassbottle · Today 09:52

Why are already violent communities being put under even more pressure by inflicting them with more triggers? The political machine is causing this violence. People are blaming the wrong people.

LuckyHazelFox · Today 09:55

viking11 · Today 06:55

This was a horrific attack, sadly exploited by those who have an agenda against 'immigrants.' However the woman stabbed to death by her white British husband gets less publicity. Statistics wod support that woman are more likely to be hurt by the men in their life...That said if we had a proper admissions scheme we would be able to check people more.

Europe has already fallen to fascists, which is exactly why these barbaric acts keep happening. Fascists on the left who try to bully and shame people into silence if they aren't soft on immigration. You have to read some of the threads: AIBU to unfriend my right wing friend/therapist's husband etc. Should Nigel Farage be locked up? Another one - all wanting to cancel the right. While calling every man and his dog racists. Antifa, the biggest bunch of scum who cover their faces to commit violence. Anti fascists!! They ARE the fascists and where do they sit on the political spectrum? Hmm. None of this is going to stop until the rotten core is taken out.

The cause of violence is violent thugs. This may include some politicians.

Barbarism not expected of a European country?

Are you aware of naxi Germany?

The team mother and baby home in our own country?

Kneecapoings, while we're at it?

Tarring and feathering?

We're no more immune to far right extremists than anywhere else sadly

Can you please explain to me what you understand by the term fascist and how you are using it here?

Or far left extremists. They always seem to conveniently be forgotten.

Today. I mean in this current time. Huge lessons were learned following WW2.
As a society we have evolved.
I don’t think the countries that I mentioned were better 50 years ago than they are today, well probably Iran but other than that.

Thanks to the civilised peace agreement between the parties. If only other countries could concentrate on peace. The vote for peace was overwhelming. Thankfully it has lasted, not 💯 but a hell of a lot better.
The trauma will continue for another two generations, hence why dropping other cultures in here was a terrible mistake.

If you want to stay stuck in the past, get on with it. I think a dictionary should tell you what delusion means.

I'll be honest I feel a bit mad. 😂 I clearly need to go to bed. It's is infuriating though watching northern Ireland be used like this and knowing the people who really suffer will be the local ordinary people. And they will suffer. And I'm really scared what the new s will be in the morning.

Watching NI being used like what, you mean as a passage for illegal immigrants?
