Snacks for when you can't stop

Desperately trying to lose some weight but I have a life long addiction to snacking. I'm not fussy, I will snack on whatever is available. So please give me your ideas!

I am switching crisps and biscuits for chopped carrots, apples, cucumber, peppers and whatever else I've got. I've also rediscovered the joys of eating half a jar of gherkins and pickled onions. I also like full fat Greek yoghurt with banana or strawberries. High in fat but keeps me full.

Any ideas please?

Sable grapes - so delish - but it gets expensive quickly!

I love deliciously Ella's dark chocolate orange almonds. Or what about popcorn with a savoury coating?? Low fat but still good for munching. I can't have biscuits in the house or I eat the whole packet 😭

Bread sticks

If you like eggs, keep hard boiled eggs that you can keep in the fridge and just grab if you’re feeling snacky?
Also egg muffins - super easy and you can basically add in whatever you fancy. So beat a few eggs, chuck in some veg (peppers mushrooms, onions whatever you like really) then meat and or cheese. Cook them in muffin tin and then you can enjoy hot or cold.

Eggs, chicken, baby bels - the light ones .

Im maintaining weight loss and I tend to make a red lentil Dahl or a couscous salad oe mixed bean salad to have in the fridge so a healthier snack is easy reached rather then bread, crisps , buns etc

I slow down the snacking by making sure my snack is eaten with a knife and fork sat at a table. I sandwich sat on the sofa watching a soap, Im not even aware Ive eaten, let alone felt filled

Bread sticks

Yes love bread sticks but usually it's a case of dunking them into the Nutella jar. More recently I tried them with cream cheese and ended up eating half the tub🙄

Great idea for the boiled eggs. I like them with a sprinkle of salt, pepper and chili powder!

Some great ideas so far thanks. Keep them coming!

@shellyleppard popcorn is a good one and I did look into a popcorn maker recently as realised that the shop bought bags are high in fat as well as salt and sugar.

Nairns oat cakes - cheese or seeded, more filling and less moreish than normal crackers but still good for when the crunchy snacks are whispering your name from the treat cupboard.

I'm trying to break up with Lotus cheesecake bites rn so I feel your pain op

I have to stay clear of crackers unfortunately-- same problem as the breadsticks I mentioned above - as it's usually a case of slathering them with Nutella, jam, cream cheese and whatever else is going. And don't get me started on the Lotus spread!

I'm now feeling extremely peckish. Please keep me away from the snacks right now!

This might not be what you want to hear, but you mention eating snacks to 'keep you full'...I think that desire to feel full is your biggest problem - we're not supposed to be full all the time - we're designed to eat, then slowly get hungry again, before the next meal.

I'm not saying its easy, it really isn't, but the most useful thing you can do is find something else to do when you feel like a snack to stay full, to break that habit. Otherwise, if you keep topping up to 'full' throughout the day, you may expand your stomach to expect more and more food over time.

I often snack on a slice of ham or 2, olives, pickled onions, white cheese (feta type) and tbsp Greek yoghurt

Frozen grapes

Morepositivemum · Yesterday 22:53

Frozen grapes (just put some into a freezer bag then put in the freezer) or frozen yoghurts. Take so long to eat it stops you from eating the house! Also crackers

I have some of these and portion snacks up.
Sistema KLIP IT PLUS Food Storage Containers | 180 ml | 3 Piece Airtight Containers Set | Leak-Proof Seal | Easy Locking Clips | BPA-Free https://amzn.eu/d/07KmqtHf

Mixed dried fruit, veg sticks, mini crackers, popcorn or chopped fruit. I make a few up and allow one a day.
Also I dont buy certain products to eat at home to prevent temptation. The kids snacks I try to have things in I'm not keen on.

sliced tomato and cucumber with a bit of malt vinegar

finely sliced red cabbage (very cheap snack) - you could also make pickle, delicious in the same way gherkins are very snackable

also recommend getting a real teapot and tea leaves, something about making a pot of green tea or Earl Gray is very satisfying!

Thinly sliced apple floating in ice cold water is also weirdly delicious

clickyteeclick · Yesterday 23:01

Apple slices with peanut butter
Flavoured rice cakes with a small layer of cream cheese with chives/spring onion/sliced onion

Strawberry jelly

Smoked salmon with cucumber.
Beef jerky/biltong
Protein shakes
Sunflower seeds
Seaweed, but not the fried or salted types, just plain nori.
Crunchy veg that take a while to eat

My favourite snack right now, for those times when I miss lunch and its still a good while to dinner , are Perters yard Sourdough crackers , topped with really thick lot fat cottage cheese and a tiny drip of hot honey - its amazing. Gives crunch, scream and sweetness in a mouthful , yet high protein and fibre, low carb and low fat . The crackers if buying the right box, come in packs of five, I cant manage five . Give me a loaf of white and a pack of butter - it will be gone in 48hrs
