School toilets

School toilets!
Son text me to say he had walked out of lesson after being refused permission to go to the toilet, he had finished all his work. I have always told him to do this if he is desperate but he never actually has before.
He has been put in isolation.
I'm angry as I really believe that students should be allowed to go when they need to and he had completed all tasks so was just say in the classroom anyway.
What does everyone else think?

So this kid sent a text from the school bathroom.... It's obvious that he wanted to slip out to the bathroom to play with his phone. Then he just texted a sob story to mum so she could back him up.

They aren't allowed to go during lessons either so which do you think is more disruptive going during a lesson or dashing to the toilet between lessons?

They get the same punishment if they get caught going to the toilet on between lessons without a pass. My son obviously jist got on with his work until he couldn't wait any longer, of he'd have waited until the end of the lesson and gone he would have the same punishment. So really he couldn't win either way, be in pain and risk humiliation and be punished, or go and relive himself and be punished

Yes he obviously had his phone on him. Most schools that allow phones seem to have a rule about switched off and in your bag.

If they get caught as opposed to doing it deliberately in front of a teacher during a lesson. Maybe think it through.

He was gone for 5 mins, not sure what games he could be playing, he had 20 mins left of the lesson, went to the toilet and still have 15 mins left when he got back! It wasn't a son story, he was letting me know that he had walked out to use the toilet so he will be in isolation

Someone monitors the only open block (lesson times) of toilets throughout the day. And if rather him just be honest than sneak around

Have you got the school bugged?

Teeheehee1579 · Today 08:57

Christ he’s not 85 and incontinent - what medical issues does he have that he can’t wait?

Besafeeatcake · Today 08:57

Sweetheart1990 · Yesterday 12:14

I will be fetching him home

And make it worse and be one of those parents?

You admit he disobeyed so there is a consequence. Lessons are no longer than an hour - if he has to go for most of the lesson he should have gone before the lesson started.

The kids know the rules and they are there for a reason. They aren’t for you child to make an exception because he forgot to go before and couldn’t wait the last 20 minutes.

In the meeting analogy no you wouldnt say ‘excuse me I have to use the toilet’ you would know it was an important meeting for an hour and go before.

So if they get caught now changes as toilets monitored.

I spoke to the reception and she knew the times he had been in and out of lesson, plus when he went to isolation that time was also logged

However on a serious note, if you don’t want to be part of the school community and rules that they set then you are welcome to look elsewhere and send him to a school that let’s any child walk in and out to the toilet whenever they fancy. You can then complain about the disruption to class at your new school.

And all such lovely round numbers, precisely 20 minutes left of lesson, he was gone for five minutes, fifteen minutes of lesson left. Imagine having enough staff in a school so that a receptionist can log every movement of every child.

Sweetheart1990 · Today 09:03

TheignT · Today 08:53

You talk as if you were there. You didn't hear if he was polite or quietly apologizing.

I've spoken to my son, Ive asked him to tell me exactly how the interaction was because when I speak to the teacher I will be making that point. He gets on with the teacher and he wouldn't want to be rude to her. You don't know my son. I think I know him enough to know if he's telling me the truth and especially when he knows that the school will be telling me there side

Why'd he take his phone with him for this bathroom emergency? Was he not planning on returning to class? Weren't his books, bag, etc. still at his desk when he slipped out? He texted you so you could give him cover, which you reliably did.

It's literally a click of a button on the teachers tablet, she logged him out the room and back in the room, I assume for safeguarding so that he was not down as being in her classroom at that time

You are telling us one thing, if he got caught, then it changed to the toilets are monitored during lessons changes so no if about it. Bit like earlier on you assumed he didn't go before lessons as he'd be late then a few minutes later you knew that's why.

Sorry when people change facts it just comes across as not worth bothering with.

His bag and books were in the class room, he keeps his phone in his pocket as he doesn't want it stolen from his bag (happened a few times at school) the teachers are fine with them having phones as long as they aren't playing on them. I know they would not want him to text me, obviously, but he's a 14 year old boy and in the situation he text me, his mum, the person that a child should turn to when upset/annoyed
He doesn't make a habit of using his phone at school, the only time he's ever messaged me was to say he was ill but the school wouldn't call me. It's school, not prison

For the love of god stop wasting the schools time and let them get on with the job they are doing - teaching the kids who want to learn and trying very hard to also get some information into the heads of those like your son who think it’s ok to leave the lesson despite being told not to. Who would be a teacher these days having to deal with disrespectful little sods and their equally disrespectful parents. Parent your child properly and tell him to wait next time or be more organised and go earlier. Texting mummy to get him out of a situation. Good god,

Not changing facts, trying to reply to so many comments.
I had more info throughout the day and after speaking to my son more.
You don't have to bother with it 😂

Cakeorchocolate · Today 09:11

I totally agree.
No one should be denied use of a toilet when they need it.

It shouldn't be restricted in any way. Kids shouldn't have to have passes to go, or explain they're on their period. It's a bodily function that we have little control over, yes most people can hold it for a time but it shouldn't be routine to have to.

I'm sorry but you cannot be serious? The amount of wasted time on pointless tasks and rules in schools these days Is laughable.
