To hate my pale skin?

I am so pale I’m translucent. You can see pretty much all of my veins on my shoulders, thighs, arms. Basically everywhere. I’m as white as a ghost.

I don’t tan. Last summer I went to a Formula One race and I was in the sun for ten hours a day, two days running. I didn’t even get burnt. Just stayed the same colour. Yesterday I went to a BBQ, and burnt in the sun that was out for about two hours. It just doesn’t make sense!

I don’t pick up any colour. Fake tan looks odd on me because I don’t have undertones - it’s just white. But it’s also not the beautiful pale that a lot of women on social media have. It’s just deathly, sallow pale. I hate it.

Same! I’m very pale. I do use skinny tan coconut mist spray and find I get a healthy glow with that. I’m like you though you can see all the veins in my legs especially, I’d love to have some hint of natural colour so I feel your pain!

It’s the fact my burning is never consistent!

I think that’s not unusual tbh. I have light olive skin and tan very easily, but have had sun burn at times where I don’t expect it. I’m sure it’s something to do with the strength of the sun rather than it just being sunny.

I’d understand if I’d not been sat in Spanish UV 10 for hours and hours, being lax about SPF because I was engrossed in the race. But UV 6 for a couple hours is where my skin draws the line apparently

I’m over 70 now and my skin is v white - I’m looking for a soft liquid blusher type of thing - that I can add to moisturiser - just to warm the colour a bit. Something bigger than the tiny bottles you get.
Fake tan looks a bit yellowy

The body lotions with a light fake tan work well.on pale skin. Must be the lighest colour though not medium etc.

Have you tried the Jones Road miracle balm? Comes in lots of different colours and brilliant for giving a bit of colour and glow. I’m in my 40s but it was recommended to me by my mum in her 70s who swears by it.

Please avoid the sun exposure. You might not like pale skin but skin cancers and a skin like tanned leather are in your future if you don't start covering up and putting on high factor sunblock. You should embrace what you are. Lots of film stars embrace that pale porcelain look. Flattering colours and a light touch of make up make a lot of difference. Some of the Bare Mineral powder veils can add a little glow - not the bronzer ones though because they just look like a dirty face with really pale skin..

I find fake tan looks quite odd on me too as I am very pale but a few light coats of light gradual tanner can be flattering - think mild sunkissed glow rather than bronzed. Use a mitt - it makes a difference. Or use leg makeup to hide the imperfections - it dries on and it lasted 40 degree heat at a Greek wedding without melting. I like Sally Hansen for it coverage and sticking power.

Alternatively move to Ireland - you'll fit right in. Incidentally, Irish beauty blogs often focus on products suitable for really light skin.

I’m not going to avoid going to things like F1 races because I’m pale, yesterday was a mistake and I didn’t realise I was burning! I usually wear factor 50 all year round but it was so cloudy yesterday, the sun only came out for an hour or so.

I am very pale with freckles and I am proud of it!

I just make sure I wear SPF 5O when I go out in the sun in the summer.

I think fake tan looks ridiculous and is unnecessary.

I also think it is sad that women are being conditioned by beauty products companies and their marketing to think that their natural skin always needs to be covered up.

LittleRedButton · 01/06/2026 07:46

All complexions (should) avoid sun at its peak. Pale skin is beautiful, IMO. I go out of my way to retain mine because I have seen the result of sun damage as we get older, skin cancer, freckles, discolouration etc. Not really worth it for zero reason, IMO.

If I was purposefully sunbathing I’d understand but I’m literally just functioning outside at this point, it was a BBQ and it was only sunny for an hour or two and I’ve ended up burnt!

I understand. This happens to my DC who is ginger. The only thing we can do is keep them in the shade and wear SPF50 if we think they'll be out in full sun longer than 10 minutes. It happens quick as you know!

That’s normal if you’re pale though? I’m a redhead, I burn in 5-10 mins when the UV is high. You don’t have to be sunbathing

The UV wasn’t high, that’s my point. I’ve been in higher and not burnt.

Not unreasonable in the slightest. I have always had the colouring of a sickly Victorian child. If I had a pound for every time I’ve been asked if I’m “feeling ok?” I’d be a rich woman.
No advice sorry, apart from always wearing make up when you go out to avoid ambulances (or exorcists) being called by concerned members of the public.

If you had no sun protection on then it only takes 5 minutes to start burning if very fair.

Have you tried using a tinted moisturizer? Nivea do a good one. No weird lines like you get with foundation

The days where you go into work without makeup on and everyone’s asking if you’re ill 🤣

I use the beauty of joseon spf tinted moisturiser, but it doesn’t change how pale the rest of me is!

I've never looked to see if there was a whole body tinted moisturizer but surely there's something along those lines. I empathise, I'm quite pale myself but luckily I tan quite easily really.

Hi DC2! 👋

look after that skin.
