To think some Facebook group admins think they are gods?

I’m part of a group on Facebook called illiterate Britain. I liked it and would post the odd photo of spelling mistakes. Tonight I posted a photo of Stacey Solomon as she had spelt ecstatic exsatic. My post was removed as “the rules are you can’t identify anyone who are normal members of the public” so I reposted and said I’ve removed the name even though this celeb isn’t a member of the public as per the rules, she’s a celebrity? All the admins jumped down my throat saying have you seen the admins decision is final in the rules and have you also seen the rules about flouncing. They were all like bullies. Telling me my post won’t last long and neither will I, this was after I had changed the post to what they had asked for. All I did was simply question one decision as to why they decided to remove my post as Stacey is not a general member of the public who would feel “shamed”. I edited it without the comment and they posted a screenshot saying we can still see your edits as though I had said something really shameful and they were outing me by posting the screenshot. I said yes as it’s not worth the hassle for myself and they replied that ship has sailed. I deleted the whole post. I’ve just gone on hours later and I’ve been blocked from the group

Don’t you think they are a bit OTT in some of these groups? Good lord, it’s Facebook not something under oath! I also realise I’m not perfect when it comes to spelling and grammar!

Definitely!!!

I am on a UK dog showing group.

The admin of the group is an absolute control freak head case. You have to go through the Spanish inquisition and wait a year to get on it, I think they think it's like the SS or something. Admin screenshots posts to humiliate members. Shutting down of any conversation that although not rule breaking, the admin just doesn't agree with with. Outright bullying of members. The admin puts some absolute bizarre posts up. I honestly think they need help.

"To think some Facebook group admins think they are gods?"

That's because we are.

HTH.

Try Reddit, so much better for groups (but not pictures of family or friends).

Who still uses Facebook?!

2 billion people every day....

In July 2025, it was ranked as the third-most-visited website in the world.

Firstly, that's an embarrassing group to be on.

Secondly, I agree with the admin deleting - ridiculing named individuals is unpleasant behaviour.

Why would anyone want to draw attention to someone misspelling a word? Some introspection needed.

If you have joined a group which exists purely to mock people who have special needs or have received a poor education, i dont think you have the moral high ground.

Edited

Thank you,Mocking people with literacy issues is a low blow
My DW has literacy issues and I see her everyday struggles with this and I pitch in to help

She did go to literacy classes but they stopped due to funding.
Having literacy and digital skills are something most of us take for granted not having them makes modern life extremely difficult.
So op have your laugh at others.

Leave the group start and alternate one and mod it yourself

I’ve admined a group for years. Several thousand members, multiple posts a day. Our admin rule is “it’s not a democracy”. There are plenty of other groups on the internet for people who disagree and a small minority of posters are PITAs.

Groobey · Yesterday 07:07

The one that runs my local group regularly changes the “no politics” rule when it suits him, so no politics allowed, unless it’s posts by him. It’s actually quite funny.

It sounds like a horrible group.

I’m lucky enough to have had a decent education, and it be dyslexic, and am the first to internally roll my eyes at port spelling, even though I make mistakes myself. But laughing at others less fortunate than myself isn’t something I could consider a nice pass time. Naming and shaming anyone for poor spelling however famous, is just nasty. The group doesn’t sound nice, and you sound even more unpleasant.

Oh, and lots of dyslexic people end up as entrepreneurs or in the entertainment business, so in the public eye, partly because people like you wouldn’t give them a “normal” job as you’re too busy laughing at their spelling mistakes. They’re still “members of the public” with feelings!

I couldn’t agree more. My son is severely dyslexic and writes phonetically. Spelling is truly awful. Didn’t stop him getting a first in his degree.

Poor spelling doesn’t always mean stupid or uneducated. And even if it does, why do people see that as a problem? I’d much rather a kind uneducated person than an educated one who is nasty enough to sneer at others just to make themselves feel better.

What a lovely sentiment,I posted up thread about my DW and her struggles.
She's one of the kindest and thoughtful and inoffensive person I've ever met and proud to say that's my insert name wife and I'll defend her to the hilt if anyone takes the piss out of her and it has happened

You're on mumsnet mocking face book?

mondaytosunday · Yesterday 15:49

Back to the original question: yes. I am a member of quite a few FB groups and what annoys me is when admin turns off the comments. Fair enough if there have been over 100 comments - unlikely anyone is going to be coming up with anything new. But often it may be a question that can be factually answered but there are a few ifs ands or buts and turning off comments after just ten comments (or fewer) doesn’t allow someone to respond who may have a different take. I’m not sure why they do it either.

I agree, and what's worse is all the users who fawn after them and back them up no matter what

I was a member of a group called "anti click-bait society" or something similar. At first it was really good an useful - they'd post a headline, and then let you know the actual content of the article which was usually not what the headline implied. (example "would be something like "Only Fools and Horses star dies" with a picture of David Jason, then when you click the link it was a minor actor).

Then the owner started doing "twat of the day" where they'd find someone, who to be fair, at first was usually a twat to post and make fun of. But soon anyone who dared to slightly disagree with the owner or point out some headlines we're clickbait and were honest would be posted as "twat of the day" and there would be a huge pile on!

I left the group in the end

This'll probably be brought screen shotted for me to be twat of the day tomorrow! 😂

Do people still use FB? 😭

Not in the way it was originally used. Lots of small businesses and trades use it instead of a website so I find it quite useful if I want to find a plumber or a handyman.
I also find it useful for holidays, FB groups for holiday destinations can be a mine of useful information.
