To consider cancelling my holiday because of the EES?

I just can’t cope with this stress. I will be travelling alone and I can’t afford (literally or mentally) to miss a flight because of this system.

I just don’t want to go. It’s looming over me. I did it in February going into Norway, but that makes no difference. You’re still in the queue for hours. I’m flying with Ryanair and they only open their bag drop 2 hours before, they’re now saying three hours to get through. So it’ll be literally impossible.

this is what i get

That's wrong Ireland are not in Schengen but are in EU and don't need to go through EES

What’s the point of him if he’s not going to help his citizens

What help do you suggest? We lost our seat at the table when we left the EU. What exactly do you want him to do to ‘help’ prevent you from having to queue?

So all the people saying they've missed flights are lying then?

And all the people reporting long queues at airports and ports also lying?

OK I'm prepared to accept that media reports can be exaggerated but they were also reporting long queues at the Channel ports last weekend - I know it was the bank holiday and start of May half term in England and Wales, but the system should be able to cope.

The channel crossing chances were always going to be difficult to implement. Everything was drive through before, but now everyone will have to get our of their cars. Very different scenario to airports.

Rejoining would be a start. Signing a deal that allows us easier movement. Closer ties. Not crying about a football match.

Is it?

It’s been how long and still nothing has been negotiated? Queues of tourists at the border, people missing connections, and flights. Bad enough to make national news. But all he cares about is Arsenal.

What do you want negotiating? We left the eu and are therefore being treated like all the other non-eu countries. I am definitely not in favour of brexit but why when we made that choice should we expect special treatment. If you want to blame someone then blame the people who took us out of the Eu, not the current government who was against it.

Helping you avoid an extra 20 min of queuing is probably a lowish priority compared with all the other things he will be working on to help citizens - you know like trying to grow the economy to reverse the biggest impact from brexit.

It’s not like an Amazon prime subscription. You can’t just switch in & out on a whim. This is the point of democracy. You engage with what the political parties say they stand for, and you vote accordingly. The extent to which you agree with Brexit isn’t relevant. On the day of the referendum, the majority voted to leave. If you think he can just call up Brussels and say ‘these queues are ridiculous! My citizens are losing 3hrs of their holidays in a line, we want back in IMMEDIATELY’. Then you’re a fool.

KoiTetra · 01/06/2026 10:07

Op, assuming this is real you honestly need medical help.

Firstly, there is a chance something will go wrong of course, but 99% of people out there are very happy to take that chance and the vast majority of them are making their flights just fine.

Secondly, if you did end up split up from your suitcase, yes it is a huge inconvenience but to say its the end of the world is just an insane overreaction. No one is going to die from a missing suitcase (even if you had life saving drugs in there you could get to a hospital).

Your reaction is extremely unhealthy and does need looking at, this must be affecting your whole life.

I just can’t believe you’re getting yourself into this over a few airport queues. Honestly it sounds like you’d prefer to cut off your own nose to spite your face because “Brexit” than think sensibly about your forthcoming holiday. I think you could do with some support as you seem completely fixated on this and unable to see the wood for the trees. Have you discussed this with your GP?

In the long term, the UK may rejoin the EU but it will be a hugely drawn out process (a) because it has to be done in a democratic way (remember the country did vote to leave in 2016), and (b) because it is a political danger zone- if Labour made this a policy now, they would be handing the country to reform, no question. You have got to find a way to live with this for the foreseeable future and deal with it.

idontwanttogoanymore · 30/05/2026 22:49

Because the Airbnb cut off for check in is midnight. Normally would be fine. Now the government is spineless and allowing this to happen, it’s not going to be fine.

You just contact the host and say it will be later? That’s what normally happens.

Are you, in fact, an actual child?

It would explain your toddler-like intransigence, your lack of understanding of current travel advice and experience, your total lack of any insight into international politics, and the fact you’re tantrumming about missing a holiday, which would only come about if you decide to cut off your nose to spite your face.

Telling you to grow up would be rude, but entirely appropriate here.

ConverselyAttired · 01/06/2026 10:54

You're being ridiculous. I went to the Netherlands last week via Stansted and the EES was a 30 minute queue after the flight (about average for passport control anyway) and we walked straight up to a desk in Eindhoven coming back.

I do think 30 minutes is a long queue but not worth cancelling a holiday over, just a bit annoying.

But you always have to queue to show your passport on entry into the country you've flown into. That's not new. It was the same at Stansted for normal passport control to get back into the UK, as we landed at the same time as a few other flights and it's luck of the draw which flight disembarks first.

simpsonthecat · 01/06/2026 11:04

Please please cancel your holiday, lose ££££ and put us all out our misery!

The rest of us can then jet off on our holidays with one less whinger to think about.

Just to add, why start a thread moaning about something that hasn't happened? I betcha you sail through (if you go) but you won't come back and update us, because that will be Starmer's fault somehow!

Edited

No it’s not new but I’ve flown into the Netherlands many times and just walked up to the passport desk with no queue at all or a 5 mins queue at most (have also experienced much longer). I don’t think it is good for 30 mins to become the norm and airports should be looking at how to minimise it.

Highlighta · 01/06/2026 11:18

Good grief OP.

It is because of people like you that the term whinging poms exist.

Although I think this is a wind up.

PrincessHedgehog · 01/06/2026 11:27

It’s frankly an entertaining read. What other offenses has Kier Starmer committed against you lately? Would you prefer he held your hand while you waited, or better, be one of those queue-holder people that you pay so you can pop in at the last minute and get your documents sorted? Honestly this entire continent doesn’t revolve around you so either go on your trip or cancel with respectful notice to the poor Airbnb owner whose life you are inevitably going to make a misery if you take this trip…

Cosmo8329 · 01/06/2026 11:29

I have flown to lots of other countries that have had the eye & finger print checks in use for many years. It takes a couple of minutes to pass through. There are staff watching if a person has issues getting through these type of checks.

You are over stressing unnecessarily

If airports have queues then they are under staffed or have technical issues

I've queued for half an hour at AMS while were IN the EU

Cosmo8329 · 01/06/2026 11:32

If you are unable to wait in a potential queue, may I suggest that you book assisted passage through the airport.

WestwardHo1 · 01/06/2026 11:37

This poster doesn't want suggestions, reassurance or solutions. She just wants to wind herself up. If it's real.

kiwiane · 01/06/2026 11:38

I would go - you can take a small bag so you don’t need to put anything in the hold and go early through security and passport control.

I get the impression you are just trying to make this into a hate post against Starmer and blaming everything on him. Haven’t even PM when we left EU. It was Boris Johnson’s government
