AIBU - IKEA food bags

BlackBean2023 · 28/05/2026 15:09

I have used IKEA sandwich/freezer bags for years. They are the MVP of food bags if you ask me.

I am running low and the nearest IKEA is 30 miles away - I don’t need anything else at IKEA right now. I have taken to rinsing them out and drying them on the washing line to extend the lifetime of my stash.

YABU - I can recommend you better, .
YANBU - just drive to IKEA and buy the damn bags.

Just apend £15 on them and get them delivered

Yabu to rinse and reuse them imo

Simonjt · 28/05/2026 15:22

We wash ours and re use them, if its just something like roti you don’t even need to wash them really. You can buy them online.

Littledidsheknow · 28/05/2026 15:26

And this is why our planet is fucked Hmm

Ive always washed and reused the IKEA food bags. They’re so substantial I always assumed you were supposed to!

Londonrach1 · 28/05/2026 15:28

Im running out too and ikea closed to covert now....best bags ever. Wish had a closer Ikea...

HoldMyWine · 28/05/2026 15:28

They are the GOAT of food bags. I wash and reuse mine too as much as I can. I have about 4 different sizes. I would make the trip
as im
sure you find plenty of other things there that you don’t know you need yet. And grab a hot dog whilst you’re there for good measure.

MaySheWillStay · 28/05/2026 15:29

Thank you for this idea.

If you can bear Amazon there are lots of IKEA freezer bags there, with free delivery. I haven’t yet compared their prices with IKEA, though.

Peonies12 · 28/05/2026 15:30

You've only just started washing and reusing?? I do that with all sandwich bags, who uses them once??

creamcheeseandlox · 28/05/2026 15:30

Get some of their fantasik napkins whilst you are there. Large, thick and 100 for £2. Best napkins I've used. I buy 5 packs at a time so I never run out.
I also agree with you on the resealable bags, best I've used.

SpringsOnTheWay · 28/05/2026 15:30

I think I have enough to see me out.
they are excellent and so reusable

6legs · 28/05/2026 15:37

I love IKEA food bags. They’re perfect for storing my current crochet wip safe away from my cat.

This. My conscience wouldn't allow me to only use a sandwich bag once, especially ones as good quality as Ikea. We only really use them for things like bread for the freezer, anything like meat goes in old takeaway tubs because I CBA washing them out to the standard that I'm happy they're clean if used for raw meat.

takealettermsjones · 28/05/2026 15:59

I am very surprised so many people use food bags! I don't find them helpful at all. The only thing I used to use them for was when my cats brought in dead things! (And there's no way I'm washing those out afterwards 🤢)

fedupandtired1 · 28/05/2026 16:04

I wash and reuse the ikea bags all the time unless it’s had raw meat in them . I’ve had some for years

MaySheWillStay · 28/05/2026 16:04

I use them to store yarn - keeps the clothes moths out.

The IKEA double seal works so well.
I’ve tried several other brands, but nothing else is as good.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 28/05/2026 16:06

I also wash and reuse the ikea ones.

Why are you bagging dead things from cats? You're not freezing those are you? Shock

Good god no 😂 that's a worse image than the idea of washing the bag out 😅😅

Just to erm... contain the detritus. I don't want it stinking in the bin.

TheLilacFinch · 28/05/2026 16:23

I always wash and reuse them!

TipsyLaird · 28/05/2026 16:27

We reuse ours multiple times. Unless they gave had something like leftover bolognese frozen in them.

SurreySenMum26 · 28/05/2026 16:29

I wash and rinse mine. They are expensive for bags and tbh I begrudge even using them at that price. Just fill a few inches of soapy water in the washing bowl, scoop some up, seal and shake about. But mine don't have wet contents. It's just too good to waste greggs sausage rolls or flour. Mind you I'd reuse like for like I guess. No different to reusing tupperwear surely? They aren't flimsy

whereistheheatwave · 28/05/2026 16:29

Order on line?

doglikescheeseontoast · 28/05/2026 16:37

Surely the point of IKEA is that it is full of things you don’t know you need until you get there? So you SAY there isn’t anything else you need from there, but you and I both know there is 😎

BlackBean2023 · 28/05/2026 16:48

THANK YOU to the people who have pointed out I can order online.

DH doesn’t thank you. He thinks the 99p ones from Tesco will suffice. What an idiot.

I’ve still got loads of these apparently I use twice as many food bags as napkins!
