AIBU - IKEA food bags

BlackBean2023 · 28/05/2026 15:09

I have used IKEA sandwich/freezer bags for years. They are the MVP of food bags if you ask me.

I am running low and the nearest IKEA is 30 miles away - I don’t need anything else at IKEA right now. I have taken to rinsing them out and drying them on the washing line to extend the lifetime of my stash.

YABU - I can recommend you better, .
YANBU - just drive to IKEA and buy the damn bags.

We reuse ours multiple times. Unless they gave had something like leftover bolognese frozen in them.

I mostly use mine for meat - they are good for marinating as they don’t leak!

I always ask all my friends if they want any when I go to ikea and would expect them to do the same. I have a big box of spares in the shed. They are as you say the Peak of zip lock bags. See if you can do a bulk order with your friends and order some for Xmas gifts !!

Vinvertebrate · 28/05/2026 16:53

As if any normal human can visit the Ikea website to order food bags and not find hundreds of other items to buy and get free delivery… <eyes 35 seasonal coir door mats and matching throws>

I have never washed a food bag either. And my freezer is full of them - v useful for owl pellets.

I use an old yogurt tub (knock off Aldi version of fage) that has a lid. Works a treat and I just run it through the dishwasher.
We are a small family though!

I’m assuming youve also got the Ikea glass Pyrex with the wooden lids? I’ve got a couple of plastic lids I use for marinading larger amounts.

if you’ve not got those dishes you must add them to the order

FunMustard · 28/05/2026 17:24

You've reminded me I need some too!

Either order online or just go. Personally I bloody love a trip to Ikea.

YourPoliteTurtle · 28/05/2026 17:26

YABU because , as above,

just order online. It's cheaper to buy direct from Ikea than resold on the likes of amazon.

You can do Click and Collect to a local Tesco

Ooh I didn't know that,, thanks for posting!!

Yabu to rinse and reuse them imo

And this is why our planet is fucked Hmm

Ive always washed and reused the IKEA food bags. They’re so substantial I always assumed you were supposed to!

No, sadly it really isn’t. Wish it was the reason, because that would be easy peasy to solve.

MeltyMomenrs · 28/05/2026 17:52

Does anyone know if IKEA Reading has aircon?

though might be a whole lot cheaper to just order the print frame I want & have it delivered. 🤣

Goldengirl123 · 28/05/2026 18:27

I buy them on eBay

Exactly. Ikea food bags are designed to be reused.

Wait, what, you can do Click and Collect from IKEA to Tesco??? You mean I might be able to get meatballs online??? <misses point entirely>

That is actually good to know. Our nearest IKEA is either Croydon or through the Dartford Tunnel at Thurrock, so if I can get smaller things online that will be great.

But if you order online, you miss the horror joy of going for four storage cubes at £6 each and walking out with a £200 bill

NeedWineNow · 28/05/2026 18:49

@SurreySenMum26 That is very true, and you'd also miss meandering round the store looking at sofas, wardrobes and bathroom cabinets, none of which we want or need....

Absolutely this...saves so much time just putting it all in the bag and giving it a massage as and when plus knowing the marinade isn't going to leak out is a bonus.

I too have ran out and my nearest IKEA is over an hour away, and as I don't need any FEJKA and my candle stash is pretty well stocked I can't justify a trip just for the bags either

solacola · 28/05/2026 19:02

Lakeland do good ones and it's free postage this weekend.

mummybearSW19 · 28/05/2026 19:24

OMG, I have needed some for ages too and could not be bothered with the trek to the Shop but now I find out there is click and collect …
doing that tonight
rock ‘n’ roll

I've kinda switched to the glass containers now - after a couple of chipped bags in the freezer causing catastrophic leaks when defrosting.

I still have them for some purposes (why don't the mini tortillas have a resealable bag like the big ones do!), but most of my stuff in the fridge/freezer is in glass/steel/plastic (like chinese takeaway) containers now, they stack better so I'm not met with an avalanche, can go straight in the microwave so I can eat the leftovers from them etc.

Having said that, the ikea ones are the best - although I have a fondness for the really, really small ones that I got in sainsburies too.
