Is M&S getting smaller or am I getting bigger?

I've always been an M&S size 12 and if anything sometimes that's on the big side. Really like a lot of the bits they have in store at the moment but size 12 no longer fits and I need a 14. I don't think I am any bigger than normal and the scales would suggest the same, maybe I am though.

Is anyone else finding they no longer fit into their usual M&S size and need to size up?

You are being unreasonable = I need to cut down on my porklife mate get some exercise

You are NOT being unreasonable = shrinkflation at play at M&S

I have no idea, but you did inspire me with your YABU to start an ode called 'Markslife'...

Confidence is a beige cardigan
Buttoned up as I wait for the doors to open
Got a 'Gastro Pub Dine In' deal for two
And a scented candle for the downstairs loo

I get up when I want
Except on Thursday
When I exit the house early
For the yellow label discounts

I put on my socks with sandals
And wander through menswear... slowly...

It gives me an enormous sense of
Wellbeing...
And then I’m happy for the rest of the day
Safe in the knowledge that Percy Pigs are in stock

I shop at Marks because the fit is forgiving

Three-for-two on all the men's pants
And the lady on the till has excellent bantz...

It’s got a bakery
And tiny pork pies
Ten types of teacakes
A sight for sore eyes!
Colin the Caterpillar has never been bettered
You can buy him at the same time as a nice chunky sweater.

Doesn't quite scan but hey. It's been a hot day and I am feeling very silly.

Bravo!! 🤣

A woman has appeared on my Facebook Reels a couple of times talking about M&S jeans sizing. She has always been a 14 and now needs a 16, despite not having gained weight or inches. This is a very recent change apparently. I think she might have said she was going to ask M&S about it. I have no idea if it’s true because I’ve put on a shit ton of weight anyway😬😅

Thank you, that's useful!

I think everyone saying it's generous haven't bought something in the last few weeks because, as I said in the first post, they used to be on the big side but it's really recently that I've noticed it's all got smaller. Glad it's not just me!

I bought 2 pairs of barrel leg jeans in my usual 12. The cream pair fit perfectly, the black pair are massive. So annoying.

I saw a plus size influencer on Instagram saying their 14s no longer fit her and she has to have 16s.

Plus size influencer a size 14/16? Yikes!

I agree. Been today picked up some 14s. Im always a 14 in m and s and normally find them a little big. I tried on a 14 pants and waistcoat and couldn't fasten either, was really disappointed

CountingDogs · 26/05/2026 20:15

I find m&s really big. I bought jeans, dresses and a top in there a couple of weeks ago and had to size down as usual, so I don’t think they’re getting smaller.

I think their underwear has definitely got smaller, including bras - I've recently struggled to fit into my normal sizes despite having the same sizes at home which fit fine. I don't know if that's across the board and I think their sizing is very inconsistent generally.

I definitely agree with the underwear sizing. It's totally inconsistent. The gusset in the knickers resemble the proportions of thongs. Not much use for panty liners or anything else for that matter. Don't get me started on bras 😩

bought a pair of jeans - good quality, fit my usual M and S size 14. Same shop a pair of chinos- same size and too small. Also although fine - really cheap zip so I am thinking made using as little fabric as possible.
I also love how threads which say 'M&S clothes are too tight on me' are always filled with people saying 'I'm size 6 and everything is far too big."

M&S size 16 in trousers still, despite losing three stone! Size 16 before and size 16 afterConfusedConfused

I bought jeans a few weeks ago. I am a size 14, so took three different styles into the changing room in that size. All big around the bum and a bit looser round the waist than normal.

Got size 12s of the two styles I wanted (carrot and barrell leg jeans not my style. DD15 said I looked like a clown). I could barely zip them up, not because the waist was too small but because the crotch/zip was too short. About two inches shorter than the size 14. DD15 averted her eyes and asked me if I had heard of camel toe.

I had gone for long length in both sizes, styles were not low waisted. It was baffling why the crotch was so much shorter.

Went for the 14 in the end due to... comfort and decency reasons.

Yes @YassQweeennn I think they have become more true to size than they used to be. But then also things that are meant to be loose fit can sometimes mean you could size down if you don't want them to be so voluminous. I bought some size 10 vest tops in 2022 and they were a loose fit, and I was a size 14 minimum then, more like size 16 measurements round the bust area. I tried them on recently now I am actually a size 10/12 maximum now, 35/36" chest, they are huge and the actual new size 10 tops I've bought from there do fit me. I'm two stone lighter so it's definitely their sizing.
