That this drives me insane???

New neighbours moved in about 8 or 9 months ago. Not particularly friendly, fine. They have a good size garden but for some reason they insist on putting a basketball net in the cul de sac. The constant sound of the ball being bounced drives me insane and its dangerous because you turn round the corner into the cul de sac and the kids are in the middle of the cul de sac playing with the basketball net and then you have to wait ages while they pick up all their cones and get out of the way so that you can park. After a 14 hour shift I just want to park so I can get into my house.

You are getting the usual ridiculous replies so many threads seem to get now. You are totally not being unreasonable, so many people on mumsnet must be the neighbours from hell, as they seem to advocate for all the most annoying and unpopular things, and are probably noisy neighbours too.

The kids in my cul de sac have made this ramp thing for their bikes. Yes, they’re in the way but it makes me smile seeing them having so much fun - reminds me of being young again and when my Mum was here. Aww try and not be too grumpy OP.

BringBackCatsEyes · Yesterday 19:58

My kids used to play at the end of the cul de sac.
At an age where they needed supervision there was always a parent around. I think it’s nice. No one’s “hosting”, anyone can join in. Just spontaneous.
Obv they didn’t play near a junction.

@Flowers876 YANBU. Bit weird, putting a basketball hoop in the public road and then getting the kids to play in the road!

So from what I understand, the hoop is on an independent stand? And then stuck on the side of the road? That's batshit. How can someone be miserable for objecting to this?

Very odd behaviour from whoever put it there!

Is it like in @Besafeeatcake picture?

FWIW, I have not experienced anything like this, but I am always looking for opportunities to allow children to play, outdoors.
I would probably be annoyed by the inconvenience of this, arriving home from work etc, but that annoyance would be more than offset by my joy that kids are outdoors playing sport.

As a society we should be accepting, if not creating, more opportunities like this for our kids.

Not in the middle of the road that all the residents in the cul de sac use though. That's batshit!

I’m 55 and used to play in our cul de sac as kids. Still remember the grumpy adults who complained. Now I also live in a cul de sac, and whilst the kids playing football are noisy and get too close to my car, I don’t want to be that old grump they’ll remember all their lives. So I’m not… it’s surprisingly easy.

Yeah its like that photo. I dont get it. Its not a case of being like that so that "anyone can join" either, its only every the 3 children from that family. I think the parents just dont want it in their garden! Probably relaxing in peace and quiet in their garden while the rest of us have the annoyance and the noise!!!

I dont know what to do. Its driving me crazy and making me miserable. I think I'll have to speak to the parents, its just working out how to say it. I dont see how they cant see how selfish it is!!!

Because it isn’t. Be prepared for ‘we can do what we like’ and there is no recourse….they can.

Wauwinet · Yesterday 21:04

Are the kids blocking off the entire cul-de-sac with cones so they can play in there? If so that’s not on at all. I would think there’s some way to complain about obstructing the road but tbh I’m not sure the best avenue to pursue.

If they’re using cones to do some sort of basketball drills then I would just try to drive around them and if one gets crunched then oh well, shouldn’t be all over the road.

I drive round the corner and have to wait until the children notice me

Do what we all do in our Close when the kids have toys out... wind the window down and shout oi, shift yer stuff kids or beep your horn. Don't just sit there, waiting.

No, it’s community!

No, it's a bloody health and safety hazard. And it's not 'community' if it's only the family who stuck the thing there (at the side of the road) who are allowed to use it!

Are you for real? 😂

You think an hour commute is that unusual?!

Millions of people have an hour commute every day, some have even more!

Wow, check your privilege!

Roads are not for cars or traffic. You can tell this because the Romans built roads. They exist to connect communities.

I think it's more than we couldn't be bothered to get het up over things that are just a small inconvenience
