That this drives me insane???

New neighbours moved in about 8 or 9 months ago. Not particularly friendly, fine. They have a good size garden but for some reason they insist on putting a basketball net in the cul de sac. The constant sound of the ball being bounced drives me insane and its dangerous because you turn round the corner into the cul de sac and the kids are in the middle of the cul de sac playing with the basketball net and then you have to wait ages while they pick up all their cones and get out of the way so that you can park. After a 14 hour shift I just want to park so I can get into my house.

That's awful

CRbear · Yesterday 19:35

Like the old days! I’d be very happy to see this personally.

SunnyRedSnail · Yesterday 19:35

The cul de sac is concrete and the garden is lawn. Basket balls don't bounce on lawn very well.

It's nice to see kids doing something active in the street. I'm sure it doesn't take that long to move a few cones.

They've got a patio

First world problems lol

Mumofoneandone · Yesterday 19:37

Would have thought this was illegal - blocking a road/access. Also noise annoyance.
Can you just take the net down ?
If you can't talk to them directly possibly contact your council for advice.

It takes a surprisingly long time when its a 5 year old picking up cones!!

I wouldnt be able to move it on my own, its massive. I dont think I'd get anywhere with the council unfortunately

I would ask the council as pp says, or if you have a ‘Neighbourhood PCSO’ service they might have a quiet word about the risks of a traffic accident happening.

so ask them neighbour if they could not put the cones out, or put them so you can still drive past?

Or just run a cone over and they'll then realise not to put cones out?

thenightsky · Yesterday 19:45

We are a close of 9 houses and the family at the front do this, but in the hammerhead shaped turning area. Nobody has any issues whatsoever. There's no noise and no cones. Not sure what the cone thing is about. Hmm

BringBackCatsEyes · Yesterday 19:45

Surely the street is better noise wise than their garden…further away.

BringBackCatsEyes · Yesterday 19:48

It IS odd to be playing right around a corner. Normally games are set up at the end of the cul de sac so there’s more room.
i also don’t understand what the cones are about.

Besafeeatcake · Yesterday 19:49

I grew up with kids blocking the street to play hockey. Someone would shout ‘car’ and the net would be moved. Cultural norm and I’ll the kids joined it. Brilliant childhood. Summer was basketball and everyone loved it.

You sound miserable. They could put their net in the edge of their property so there is nothing you can do. It isn’t dangerous as you shouldn’t be going more than about 20mph around a corner in a cul de sac.

How wonderful that kids are outside playing and not indoor on screens. Good on them.

No, their garden would be further away from me. And is actually their space! They dont own the cul de sac road therefore shouldn't be using it

I'd say 20mph is still a fairly dangerous speed to hit a child at with a car?

Hold on. Do YOU own the cul de sac, or is it public space?

Also, thats not the same. I drive round the corner and have to wait until the children notice me and then wait again while they move everything. Every time. As I say, after a 14 hour shift and an hours commute, I think just wanting to be able to park and get into my house is a reasonable wish.

Well since you are legally required to be aware of dangers on the road this shouldn’t be a problem to stop or slow down. Since you also know they are there it isn’t even an unawareness.

Public. Hence why I dont put a basketball net on it.

Can you post a photo or do a diagram? I can't picture it.
