Visitors with untrained dog

AIBU to refuse visits from someone with a dog that is not house trained unless they come without the dog? Every time the dog has visited it has been put in some kind of nappy but it still poos and pees somehow in my house. A new style of nappy has been suggested.

I have suggested they visit and leave the dog at home ( we live one hour away, dog will be alone 4/5 hours max) owner works full time so don’t think dog has never been left.

Absolutely no way would they be welcome in my house.

I absolutely love dogs but no, youre really not being unreasonable. Is it a puppy?

MidnightPatrol · Yesterday 15:07

I am very pro dog, and I would not allow an incontinent dog in my house.

If your dog is at the stage it needs to wear a nappy, you are beyond the point it can visit other peoples houses.

Dog owners are often in denial though - my mum had a dog that weed everywhere and she always denied it / claimed it was a one off accident (that happened… every time we saw it).

Love dogs, have dogs, dogs are my life (literally, they are my hobby and my work)...

Not a chance in hell is someone bringing a non-toilet trained adult dog here. Nope. Off they fuck.

No the dog is 4 years old!

I don't allow ANY dogs in my house; well behaved or not. Just say I'm not comfortable with it; the dog is not welcome. Or meet them somewhere else.

sleepykt · Yesterday 15:09

I do actually have a dog of my own but she is fully toilet trained. I also don’t bring her to other peoples homes often as I feel it’s unnecessary

No, I love dogs and have two, one of whom is not that long out of puppy hood. I would suggest meeting them elsewhere and up to you whether you suggest somewhere dog friendly or not. What do they do at home?

WiddlinDiddlin · Yesterday 15:13

And I do understand it can be difficult if you have an older dog who is a bit dodgy - we lived the last few years of our Tibbies life with him being only about 90% continent.

We could not leave him home alone, so either one of us did not go, or we made people aware of the risk and if they were OK with it, took him and stayed outside or only on tiled areas (he never did actually have an accident in someones house as they mostly occurred when he was in a very very deep sleep and visiting somewhere he'd be too animated to sleep!).

I would never expect someone to be ok with it though, it was never a 'can we bring Oldiewonk, oh by the way he might widdle' it was more 'we can only both come if we bring Oldiewonk who might widdle if he falls asleep, if you aren't up for that risk one of us will stay home with him'.

Stoicandhappy · Yesterday 15:22

Just tell them dog isn’t welcome. If they don’t come, so be it.

ApricotCrumbles · Yesterday 15:37

Like a pp, no dogs allowed in my house, ever, so YANBU

ibblebibbledibble · Yesterday 15:40

Has it never been house trained? Or does it have something wrong with it?
no wouldn’t want it to visit sadly, and I’m a dog person.

sleepykt · Yesterday 15:41

It’s a very small dog and she says it’s just a small dog thing. It doesn’t have as many inside accidents at home but does sometimes. It goes to toilet inside everyone’s house it visits as far as I’m aware

Totally unacceptable. My dog is 1 and until she was trained at 4 months I wouldn't dream of taking her into someone's house. She was in the kitchen until I was sure she has the message. Is the dog left alone all day?

Has she actually had it checked out properly. Apparently some small dogs do have toilet problems due to a hormone imbalance but I think there is medication for it.

sleepykt · Yesterday 15:46

Im not sure exactly. I doubt it is left all day as she won’t leave it to visit us but must be left for some periods as she works / goes to the gym etc

No one is ever allowed to bring a dog to my house, I am allergic to them and it sets my asthma off. Who
assumes their dog is invited in the first place?!

I wouldn't have a relationship with someone that is neglectful to animals, they need to grow up and take responsability, perhaps refusing to have the dog at yours will force the issue?

Fluffybuns88 · Yesterday 16:11

I have cats, no dogs are welcome in my house however well trained, it's their home and I'm not leaving them to hide under my bed because someone wants to bring a dog.

My PILs!
They rescued a dog from Croatia, it's horrible, barks at everything, they let it sit all over my sofa, it's tried to bite everyone in the house and my cats are terrified and it cant stay in my garden because it will kill our ducks. I tell them every time, "you can't bring the dog".

They live 4 hours away and turn up with the damn thing every time, last time I said it couldn't come in, we haven't seen them in 3 years.
