Ok, so what was the point of the thread if you’d already decided? Weird.

Those cases will be ridiculously difficult to manage on and off the tube if you have 56kg in them. And they’ve set you back £350 but you can’t afford an uber.

What is so shocking about someone picking up a bag of laundry and returning it the same day to the door of your hotel room?!

I dont want to have to think about that!

I hadn't decided but had asked for people's experience with these particular ones in my op?

I can afford to buy suitcases that should last a long time, not hundreds for a bloody uber!

if you insist on dragging 2 ridiculously heavy suitcases in the tube and all the way to your hotel, it's your holiday, but frankly people are trying to be helpful.

It's less painful to organise laundry once or twice in a week than dealing with ridiculously heavy luggage, half that might end up delayed or even lost on the way.

It's also cheaper to do laundry than buying very expensive unnecessary suitcases when you can't afford a taxi.

You and most people don't have the same definition of "holiday", no one is being mean.

I didnt say anyone was being mean?!

I'm laughing too, I just dont want to have to worry about laundry!

Omg 🙉🙉

Anyway thanks all, i do appreciate the suggestions, honestly! I just dont want to do laundry and worry about that on my holiday!

Honestly, that's too much for me! I cant be traipsing around ny with dc lugging a laundry bag!! 😄

Have to laugh at this as you are quite happy to traipse around with 2 large cases weighing a ton ,........

56 kg for a week long holiday is crazy. A single 23 or 26kg bag plus carry on for you (suggest a largeish backpack) really should be fine. Unless you need lots of complicated equipment.

I would look into those packing cases that you roll up and the air squeezes out of them via a one way valve. Means you can pack things like soft toys quite small. And anything else puffy.

You mentioned blankets, is it a special blanket or blankets your DC needs? Because the hotel will be able to provide extra blankets.

Surely the point of the thread was OP asking about suitcases? Not asking for your opinion on what she is doing.

PinkPhonyClub · Yesterday 13:36

OP I can’t see you’d be able to lift 56kg of suitcases on and off a tube train in one go, you’ll do your back in. Unless the relevant stations have a completely flat entry - most don’t.

pontipinemum · Yesterday 14:33

I also think you will struggle with that much luggage you said you will have a carry on as well. It is a lot to be moving yourself.

When we go on holidays we take 1 large suitcase for 4 people (granted 2 people were 3&1) plus 2 small carry on bags.

The more stuff you have the more stressful it will be. Especially with making sure DD is safe.

I think the reins someone else mentioned are a great idea if you are worried.

Having said that the IT Luggage ones that are in the simultaneous range look good. Maybe 2 medium ones of those?

Put everything you need on the table/ bed/ floor where ever you have space and then see if you really need all that.

There are all sorts of suitcases, pointing out that there's no magical 56kg suitcase that will be easily handled in public transport when managing a young child at the same point really is a valid reply.

It is posted in AIBU rather than travel though

One massive suitcase, pay for excess kgs, there are usually options for this. Use vacuum compression, you can get them with a pump now. Or just use the fold up compression bags.

One coffin size case is easier to wheel than two even if tied together.

This is a shout, will see how much British airways charge for a heavier case - i suspect though that we will also need room more than the kilos

I have chucked vacuum seal bags in the amazon basket

You'll need to check the current rules but I know regardless of overweight charges, which used to kick in at 23 kg, BA simply didn't use to accept any single item of hold baggage heavier than I think 32kg..and one reason for that was risk of injury to the baggage handlers...

Might be a message there....

fantam · Yesterday 18:31

Kid could even sit on top of the mahoosive case....Strap her to the handle lol 😊

I saw a coffin size case in Primark the other day and wondered who the hell would bring that size case away. Well it's made for YOU!

Very good point. But OP seems to need extra room rather than weight according to a recent post.

Could you not just use one slightly bigger suitcase and pack for both of you in one?

This! It’s what we do, family of 3 put all our stuff in one big suitcase for holidays now as it was too much faff getting pram, car seat, hand luggage through the airport without it being a struggle. Doesn’t help the car seat is so heavy though!

BorgQueen · Yesterday 18:52

How the hell will you pick up 2 cases in one hand and lift them onto a train? You can’t lift full cases by the extending pull handles. Even if they were strapped together you could only hold one fixed handle which would massively unbalance them, that’s not even taking into account wrangling a child.

Honestly, its going to be tough.

I need two suitcases, that i do know. I am thinking about luggage straps around the top and bottom, as pp have said

I shouldn't have to do too much lifting, it'll be off and on trains really - I'll have dc strapped to me and i'll lift on and off

What a faff

But ive taken advice on board - i'll get some vacuum bags and that'll save space

But I know i need two suitcases - the biggest job will be pulling them

Sadly as well as a weight limit there's a dimensions limit for cases though I guess it might be OK'd to travel as out of gauge (oversized) baggage..
