To think paying £102 to change to a “better” mobile number isn’t completely ridiculous?

Long story short, I’ve had my current number for years and there’s a bit of emotional baggage attached to it now due to family boundary issues / people having access to it who I don’t really want having access anymore (posted about the situation a few days ago).

I’d already been considering changing it, but every replacement number EE offered me felt worse than my current one, so I kept saying no.

Today they offered me a “gold/VIP” number with triple 7s in it that I genuinely really like and would actually prefer to my current number. Problem is, it costs £102.

I know logically it’s “just a phone number” but equally people keep numbers for years and years, and if I’m going to go through the faff of changing it, I almost feel like I’d rather do it properly and actually like the new number.

Part of me thinks “life’s short, just get the number you want.”

Another part thinks “£102 for digits is objectively insane.”

Go for it OP. Here's some other things that people spend that amount on that are hardly life changing - one meal out or take away, a balloon arch for a party, a bunch of flowers, parking fine due to being careless, clothes they don't end up wearing, getting make up done for an event, clothes for a pet, gambling. Some things are tens of thousands more, like a fancier car than really needed. Unless you need that money for life saving medical treatment or food for your children - it's a bit of fun, enjoy.

I'd go for it ,if you need to justify to yourself cut out a couple of things you have as treats or work out how much it would cost you over the next 10 years less than 3p per day (bargain) , sometimes the small things can be the best 👌

Id say buy the number if it means a lot to you, which clearly it does. People spend their money on all kinds of things. that others may consider trivial. Its your money. Mobile numbers are long and not easily remembered. So if the triple digit makes it easier for you why not.

I agree 👍

25 years ago I got a gold number given to me, as my wanker ex finance was stalking me and calling me 100+ times a day! It’s a great number and I love it (has a lot of 1’s in it!) well worth £102! Dont listen to the haters!

Grab that number before someone else does. It's cheap as chips. Think about it, that buys a great number that is a part of who you are, for less than the price of filling up a petrol tank! You'd be silly to ignore it. Frankly, I'm surprised you've felt compromised by the thought of it. You'll look back in years to come, considering the cost of everything else, and feel sick at not having got it.
