Do people get help with essays?Do you pay someone to do it with you? Or do it for you?

It is secondary school but quite important part of the qualification

What? No! The YP needs to do it themself. What is this for?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 14/05/2026 18:00

You are being unreasonable - do it yourself.

Swiftie1878 · 14/05/2026 18:00

If it’s coursework towards a GCSE it needs to be done by the student, alone.

Crazyuksystem · 14/05/2026 18:01

Ok.

10.000 words; so you can’t even get a tutor to guide you. GCSE

Bluewombler · 14/05/2026 18:02

No, of course you don't!

Raquelos · 14/05/2026 18:02

You can pay a tutor and ask them to help with essay technique, which can be very helpful, but no one should be doing an essay for a young person; the whole point is that they do it themself

ProudCat · 14/05/2026 18:02

What subject?

keepswimming38 · 14/05/2026 18:02

Universities have skills centres that you ( the student) can approach for help.

Crazyuksystem · 14/05/2026 18:02

I don’t think I can do much writing it is beyond my knowledge. So may just fail that subject

OP posts:
Crazyuksystem · 14/05/2026 18:03

Is everyone able to write this much?

There is no GCSE that needs an independent 10000 word essay.

I’d go for that option then. Don’t cheat and devalue the achievements of students who do have the knowledge and have worked hard to get a good grade.

There is in this school unfortunately which is performing arts and counts as 4 GCSE

Crazyuksystem · 14/05/2026 18:06

Wasn’t planning on cheating but thought you. Could get a least a tutor to guide you.

OP posts:
Piggywaspushed · 14/05/2026 18:06

Right. So it isn't a GCSE.

Your teacher should/will have given you guidance. Surely you have done some of this in school?

Crazyuksystem · 14/05/2026 18:07

I take my hat off to all this children who can write 10.000 words essays at such a young age

OP posts:
Purplebunnie · 14/05/2026 18:08

This sounds more like a thesis. Which performing arts school is it?

FlatErica · 14/05/2026 18:11

No, that’s outrageous. You’re supposed to do it yourself/they are supposed to do it themselves. Pathetic.

Bilbobagginsbollox · 14/05/2026 18:12

Are you an adult? Doesn’t sound like you are doing GCSEs. If you are an adult, doing an adult eduction 10,000 words is normal. School children are not expected to write essays this length.

It sounds more like a BTEC qualification if it's the equivalent to 4 GCSEs. There is a lot of written work in BTECs but it is usually broken down into different parts.

Ginmonkeyagain · 14/05/2026 18:13

GCSE course work is more like 2000 - 3000 words surely?

Piggywaspushed · 14/05/2026 18:14

I have looked up the UAL level 2 diploma which this sounds like. No prescribed 10000 word essay so I am terribly confused.

Ginmonkeyagain · 14/05/2026 18:15

10,000 words seems a lot at that level. My undergrad dissertation was only 15, 000 and that was for a humanities degree.

Bjorkdidit · 14/05/2026 18:17

Surely your college will be able to advise?

It would be a very poor institution if they just set students off writing a long essay with no guidance.

Yestothis · 14/05/2026 18:18

Someone at your school or college should be advising you how to break it down into smaller sections or tasks.

If nobody is doing that it would be reasonable to ask a tutor for a session on how to plan an essay in your subject. Make sure they know the exam specification.

But you should have guidance from whoever is teaching it

Don't get hung up on the 10,000 words. Once you know what the different sections are, you'll build it up bit by bit.

When is your deadline?
