Unwell but delivering training

romaina · 14/05/2026 16:41

I don't know what to do. Over the past hour I have started to feel unwell. I have a temperature and feel nauseous. I am meant to be delivering training tomorrow to external staff who have paid to travel to us for the training. Catering all paid for. If I still feel like this I won't be able to drive. I definitely won't be able to deliver training. Do I call it now and cancel? I feel horrible about it. I am panicking!

Get to bed now, 2 paracetamol and sleep it off?
Tomorrow is another day

This was my first thought. I just don't want to have to cancel on the day if I am still unwell. Genuinely don't know what to do and don't want to be in a shit storm of trouble if I can't so tempted to just power through.

I've never in my life 'slept off" a fever!

MMO · 14/05/2026 16:45

I agree with the above!! Take whatever meds you can. Get to bed asap. When you get up in the morning even if you feel gross, get in the shower. Everything always feels better after a shower!

I'm slightly freaking out about the whole thing. I havent had a fever in years and can't remember how long they usually last.

Isn't there a process/someone to stand in if this situation arises?

iamfedupwiththis · 14/05/2026 16:47

Is it not pre delivery nerves?

I don't have a thermometer in the house so wouldn't know if I had a fever - again if you have 2 paracetomol

Unfortunately not. We are a team of 6. Two are on leave, two are away at a conference, one is 35 weeks pregnant so can't travel too far from home.

Is it just a one day event?

Surely you can get through on coffee and paracetamol?

No I deliver training all the time and have done for years. It's part of my job.

It's only been an hour.

Panicking is probably making you feel worse.

Surely you know enough about it to just push on through then take time off if needed?

Pinribbons · 14/05/2026 16:54

I'd be assuming it's a 24hr thing, take parecetamol, go to bed and see how you are in the morning.

If you have to cancel, these things happen. I wouldn't cancel now because I think people would wonder how you know you'll be ill tomorrow.

Obviously if it turns out to be flu you won't be going, but IME most of these things are alot better by morning.

I’ve delivered food related training with separately food poisoning and a raging hangover. Paracetamol and ice water are your friends. That and lots of “activities “ for the trainees to do alone.

edited to say not food handling training

SerenitySeeker4 · 14/05/2026 16:59

Just take paracetamols and try to get through the day. Hope you feel better soon.

ReadingSoManyThreads · 14/05/2026 17:09

Do you have any liposomal vitamin C in the house? If so, start taking it now, some now, then more a bit later before bed, then again in the morning. Anytime I feel an illness coming on, I dose up on it, the stuff works wonders.

romaina · 14/05/2026 17:15

Definitely a stomach bug. Just vomited. Ffs this is such shit timing.

TheSmallAssassin · 14/05/2026 17:18

Nothing can't be postponed - surely if they're staff, their travel expenses are covered by your employer? Much better that you tell people now, before they travel - and nobody will want to catch up tummy bug off their trainer, you should be staying at home for at least 48 hours.

TheSmallAssassin · 14/05/2026 17:19

And hope you feel better soon.

Devondevs · 14/05/2026 17:20

Awful timing OP, you can either call in sick and someone will just have to replace you or reschedule everyone or you can power through and try your best.

Don't do that. You'll probably still be ill and everyone else will catch it as stomach bugs are contagious for a long time after final symptom.

Politicszz · 14/05/2026 17:23

It seems very poor planning given other staff being off, OP. You are going to need to put your big girl pants on and get on with it unfortunately.

Good luck!

AllBranGirl · 14/05/2026 17:31

Call it out now then go to bed and take tomorrow to rest up.

Anyahyacinth · 14/05/2026 17:33

This is awful…if you are actually sick, I mean nauseated, vomiting etc…stay away from people. My goodness this is basic courtesy. You don’t take your illness to other people …on what moral reasoning …financial? 😔
