Unwell but delivering training

romaina · 14/05/2026 16:41

I don't know what to do. Over the past hour I have started to feel unwell. I have a temperature and feel nauseous. I am meant to be delivering training tomorrow to external staff who have paid to travel to us for the training. Catering all paid for. If I still feel like this I won't be able to drive. I definitely won't be able to deliver training. Do I call it now and cancel? I feel horrible about it. I am panicking!

Just power through. It’s really not that deep.

DisappearingGirl · 14/05/2026 17:35

I'm amazed people are saying to power through a stomach bug. 1) You will feel awful and 2) no-one wants to catch it.

I would cancel now. It's just one of those things. If I was an attendee I'd much rather you cancelled than that you gave me a vomiting bug!

Hope you feel better soon OP.

Lemonfrost · 14/05/2026 17:36

Sorry, but if someone has an active stomach bug they should NOT be delivering an in-person training session. Why are some people so lax about common decency and basic hygiene?

I'd be assuming it's a 24hr thing, take parecetamol, go to bed and see how you are in the morning.

If you have to cancel, these things happen. I wouldn't cancel now because I think people would wonder how you know you'll be ill tomorrow.

Obviously if it turns out to be flu you won't be going, but IME most of these things are alot better by morning.

They wouldn’t; you say you have a sickness bug..there is clear public health guidance about staying away from people if you have been sick, with timescales etc..

Wherever the training is hosted will be grateful to have questions about the standard of food served if everyone starts coming down with it, how selfish and harmful this is

500mileslong · 14/05/2026 17:38

Don’t power through with a stomach bug! I would not be happy as an attendee if the trainer was knowingly infectious.

Throwing up once doesn’t mean you have a stomach bug.

Or the caterer

Throwing up once doesn’t mean you have a stomach bug.

The NHS public health message is that you stay home if you’ve vomited …the exact cause isn’t relevant

Bjorkdidit · 14/05/2026 18:04

Can you get one of the colleagues back from the conference to do the training?

I know 2 on leave, 2 at a conference, one too pregnant to travel and the remaining trainer sick sounds unlikely but it looks like it's happening so I'd be looking at replacing you with the least worst option of:

Return from conference

Recall from leave if they're not actually away

Pregnant colleague do the training, how far would she need to travel? Can she use public transport or get a taxi if she doesn't want to drive?

Is there someone at another site who can do the training or such a thing as a 'supply trainer'

Reschedule training

Can you contact the person in charge to give them a heads up and start making plans/decisions?

Gizlotsmum · 14/05/2026 18:10

Can you do the training remotely? In which case pregnant colleague could help/ support/ do it ? All attendees could be in the room?

wanderlustdiaries · 14/05/2026 17:39

Throwing up once doesn’t mean you have a stomach bug.

Feeling nauseous and feverish and throwing up suggests you quite likely have a stomach bug.

applecharlotte · 14/05/2026 18:48

I do similar work and would suggest cancelling (to be honest most participants are pleased to get the time back!). I know that anxiety about letting people down and all the preparation that goes into organising training days but you are human, being ill is out if your control! It's not like you can't be arsed!

Vomiting is nasty and not something you want to pass on tomorrow...even more disruptive to the organisation!

We often have people available to support important training events who can step in so maybe something raise for next time with your team. Get well soon!

Ineffable23 · 14/05/2026 19:09

Please don't run training with a stomach bug. Ring your work now. I would happily come in off leave to cover something like this assuming I wasn't actually away. And in fact I have done.

whatisheupto · 14/05/2026 19:59

Definitely call it off OP, if you havent already, or see if one of the other 5 can cover you. I'd be furious if I was one of your clients and you infected me. Or indeed if you threw up mid sentence....
But more importantly you need to rest and get well. Good luck, take care of yourself.

Do people like you really exist?

BellatrixpureBlood · 14/05/2026 20:14

The people saying power through, what the f is wrong with you. Shittest advice ever

get well soon @romaina

Darkdiamond · 15/05/2026 05:10

Hope you are ok OP. If you have been vomiting or have a fever don't even think about it!

I had covid when the laws had changed so that you could come into work if you felt ok. I felt a bit ropey but had to do a big presentation and dragged myself into work. A few hours later, I could barely stand up and was sent home. I felt so guilty but there was no choice and in the end, everyone survived!

You are a human, not a machine and as bad as you feel about it, you would be doing the right thing to cancel.

Big hugs.

bluejewels · 15/05/2026 05:19

Hope you've cancelled OP.

SadSandwich · 15/05/2026 05:36

How are you feeling OP? If upu do go in take fresh lemon and honey with you to help clear your system.
