Ugh. Dieting again as my weight has crept up to 9.5 stone and my fighting weight is 8.5. I’m a sucker for crisps and cheese.

Does anyone have any advice on savoury low calorie replacements?

Help!

I allow myself a snack of under 100 calories each day. There are lots out there! Chipsticks, quavers, frazzles etc

UniquePinkSwan · 13/05/2026 18:04

a boiled egg is the best snack you can have. Nutrition bombs

TheBeaTgoeson1 · 13/05/2026 18:09

I do love eggs!!!

And yes I bought chipsticks and skips today!

Popcorn? Though I find myself bingeing on it!

If you put out a few crisps and a few bits of cheese along with like some carrot, pepper or celery sticks, maybe some fruit like blueberries? On a nice plate.

If it's all set out in a portion looking nice it might make you eat it slower and be less likely to go back for more?

Snooks1971 · 13/05/2026 18:11

I saw this recipe on Insta yesterday and made it last night for me to snack on during work today. I much prefer savoury snacks! V easy and I can say it’s quite delicious.

Tub hummus (any flavour)
Mix with a big spoon or two of flour and a teaspoon ish of baking powder.
Texture should be like dough.
Season with salt/pepper/herbs/chilli/seeds
Flatten to about an 2cm high and cook in air fryer til brown then chop into pieces.

Edamame (soya) beans, a small cup is filling and they're good on the protein & fibre levels too, so satiating. You can get them in frozen bags from Tesco.

BarbiesDreamHome · 13/05/2026 18:14

Tofu. I know, boring, but it make great egg mayo (if you don't eat eggs) and it makes the most amazing chocolate mousse: literally just tofu and melted chocolate (you can add salt, vanilla etc to taste) but it's so satisfying to lick from a spoon after dinner.

I also like peanut butter and apple.
Piles of red pepper in a super creamy hummus (duchy organic is the best)

Silken Tofu Chocolate Mousse - As Easy As Apple Pie

A rich and decadent Silken Tofu Chocolate Mousse. Super easy, ready in a few minutes, and you can't taste the tofu!

Kallo do savoury corn/rice cakes that are really good. The balsamic ones are my fave!

Graze packets and Love Corn are handy to have in but you do have to portion control! You can make home made versions in the air fryer.

Tescos own Pom bears are almost too good to stop at one packet 🤣

skiprun · 13/05/2026 18:23

Boiled egg.
oatcakes
rice cakes
and trust me, but a chicken oxo cube in a cup of hot water is like having a cup of soup but only 30 Cals

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 13/05/2026 18:31

My ‘healthy’ savoury snack go to list:
M&S Serrano ham crisps
itsu garlic and chilli edamame beans
Spiced crispy chickpeas (made in the air fryer)
M&S paprika lentil chips
Salt and chilli nuts (made in the air fryer)
Ham, chicken or prawns

For me, wanting to snack means I'm hungry and/or my meals aren't balanced. I learned that over many years as an athlete. Mini meals help: yoghurt w fruit/berries; whole sprouted grain bread toast with natural peanut butter (no salt, sugar or added oils, just peanuts) and banana; wild rice with a bit of evoo, a poached or hard boiled egg and steamed veggies; an apple and some nut butter.

HelmholtzWatson · 14/05/2026 04:37

Why do you even need to snack? If you find you're hungry between meals, have smaller meals more often.

Also, eat more fibre and protein. it takes your gut longer to break these down, so will leave you feeling fuller, for longer. My typical daily meals:

7am: Home made Granola
10am: Scrambled eggs/beans on toast
1pm: Baked potato w/cheese/tuna/beans
6pm: Evening meal (could be anything from frozen pizza to home made chilli/pasta)

I’m really liking miso soup right now. Good for you gut and your hormones.

OvernightBloats · 14/05/2026 07:47

An apple! The easiest snack you can grab.

But the best advice is to try to cut out snacks if you can.

FlowerSticker · 14/05/2026 07:48

Don't snack... 0 calories

Malacath · 14/05/2026 07:49

As other posters have said, it's best to focus on your meals first. Check out Filling Meals by Lindsay Wilson, he's on Facebook and Instagram too. All meals in the book are around 500 calories and it's based on satiety, keeping you full for hours with the right amounts of fibre and healthy fats. Lindsay is a data driven weight loss coach, and the book and Facebook group have been very helpful to me.

pottylolly · 14/05/2026 07:51

At your weight adding a snack might be enough to make you gain weight. I’d suggest tracking what you first and adding more protein and good fats (and less refined carbs)

Good advice from above re eggs. Except I’d add a couple of large spoons of real butter to the eggs in a cup and salt generously.

Fat is incredibly satiating and, contrary to wisdom, won’t make you fat. See the French paradox (which isn’t really a paradox).

HappyHacienda · 14/05/2026 07:40

Are you eating them frozen?

No - although I suppose you could if you wanted? They'd be a bit hard though. If I don't have time to let them defrost on their own I drop them in a mug of hot water for a minute or two, drain, pat dry & eat.

Extra virgin olive oil! x

I know all the things I should do and could eat, and everyone likes different things obviously, but the idea of the foods that @Mumtobabyhavoc suggests turns me right off! I wouldnt find life worth living and if I tried to eat like that there is no way I could stick to it. I know myself, and the only way I can stick to a diet is to allow myself treats, but to stick to lower calorie treats and make sure they are included in my overall calorie consumption.

I am a very hungry person - not greedy but hungry - and my downfall is portion control. So I'm eating ready meals with added low calorie vegetables and salad and fruit like melon and strawberries afterwards. If I couldn't feel that I could have a snack when I felt like it, something I like, then I wouldn't stick to my diet.

I am well aware that there are other, more 'healthy' ways to eat, but extolling the virtues of overnight oats, hard boiled eggs, spinach and brown rice just doesn't work for me 🤮🤮🤮. Some practical suggestions and a little less sanctimosity might be more helpful.

a mix of cals and nutrition, I’m aware of UPF before people start

flumps
ice lollies (a lot are low cal if fruit based)
10 cal jelly mixed with fruit and yoghurt
berries, a crushed meringue, Greek yoghurt
cottage cheese with chilli crisp or everything but the bagel seasoning on rice cakes
apple dipped in peanut butter
lentil crisps
babybel
boiled eggs
Popcorn

MyIcyHeart · 14/05/2026 09:09

I LOVE cheese oatcakes!
