Just listening to her speech. She’s badass, seems to know and understand the mood of the country - she could very well be this country’s saviour from extremism and bankruptcy

Well somebody needs to care about the middle classes.

I don't think she cares much about them either.

Well Labour certainly don’t

Pinribbons · 13/05/2026 16:38

I was saying to DP last night that I think Kemi is starting to find her feet, and much as I hate to admit it as a lefty at heart, might be our best hope for keeping Reform out.

Whysnothingsimple · 13/05/2026 16:36

centre politics is currently out of favour

They didn't out reform Reform well enough to appeal to the people who think a Reform council can send the boats back immediately and install Farage as prime minister.

Well the thread isn't about Labour, is it?

I doubt it. But really if you want an unhappy party there’s a more obvious one.

This thread isn't about the other parties.

MiaKulper · 13/05/2026 16:40

This thread isn't about the other parties.

Exactly. The last thread celebrating Badenoch had the same sort of stuff.

carrotcake1234 · 13/05/2026 16:44

She’s extremely Islamophobic, her views are very right wing. It seems these days you can say anything you want about Muslims and get away with it freely. This country does not feel safe for us anymore now that politicians like Kemi can literally say whatever they want without any backlash which has made normal people think it’s okay to do the same.

chargingdock · 13/05/2026 16:44

I don’t think the Tories have become more popular under her though, I think the centre has hollowed out. She won’t become PM.

This thread isn't about the other parties.

She’s still doing better than others as much as some want to ignore those failings.

If she’s not liked as you claim then others are even more in the ditch.

And the same sort of stuff as this post.

I always thought no one really expected her to be, that she was a temporary babysitter and would be gone long before the GE. It will be interesting if she starts doing well.

InWithPeaceOutWithStress · 13/05/2026 16:47

I thought she was really negative and brought the mood down. The kings speech debates are supposed to be witty and bring people together.

MyFellowScroller · 13/05/2026 16:47

FlyingApple · 13/05/2026 16:32

I really like Kemi, wish she'd join reform.

Absolutely NEVER.
Her job is to revitalise the Tory Party as a sensible party with practical answers to the problems facing us. She, with others will show that the Boris & cronies years were the aberration. Normal sensible common sense is to be resumed as soon as possible, it is the way to go now.
Read the Alternative King's Speech that the team prepared.

NeedWineNow · 13/05/2026 16:49

I've always voted Tory (our local MP is Tory and is brilliant, especially on local issues). That said, I despaired of the shit show that the Tories became - I never had much time for Boris - but I thought Rishi was doing okay to be honest. I wasn't sure about Kemi when she took over the leadership but actually, listening to her speak, I think she's coming into her own. Obviously, as others have said, it's much easier to sound good when you're in opposition (looking at you KS) but if she carries on she will be a force to be reckoned with I think.

DH likens her and the Tories to a horserace - Labour and Reform out in front, but then Kemi can quietly come up on the rails.

PurpleLovecats · 13/05/2026 16:49

I think I must have watched a different speech.

I agree she speaks well but the content was just constant disparaging the other parties and nothing of substance.

chargingdock · 13/05/2026 16:58

Does she have any? No other parties seem to at the moment. The practical answers will not be popular with the public.

Wednesdaysotherchild · 13/05/2026 16:59

Kemi, you’ve got to stop posting like this, it just makes you come across as needy.

and No.

So why are MPs defecting to Reform? Why are Reform now the opposition in Wales? Why did Reform do so well last week?

Amlmeanorfair · 13/05/2026 17:01

I don’t always agree with her politics but really like her as a politician. Would consider voting for her, and would definitely vote for her over Keir.

Aliceinmunsnetland · 13/05/2026 17:09

MiaKulper · 13/05/2026 16:15

I don't like her politics but I think she's a good politician.
She's not a leader though. Her party doesn't like her, the media doesn't like her and the voters don't like her.

People want a Boris or a Nigel or a Tony.

The brain dead without an original thought between them want Boris, Nigel or a Tony, because they have very short memories. Especially Farage's lies with Brexit and yet they vote Reform with more lies and spin.
We are totally fucked in so many ways as a country.

MiaKulper · 13/05/2026 17:10

I wouldn't vote for her but would vote for Starmer. I think that he is a decent and intelligent person and good at the international stuff.
What he isn't is a campaigner, and unfortunately the performers are the ones who get the vote.

Mrs B has things going against her. She is not a white male middle-aged liar.

MiaKulper · 13/05/2026 17:15

@Aliceinmunsnetland , people in general are gullible.

Give them a piece of paper to put an X on and they'll vote for change. They won't think deeply about it.
Last week's election showed that.

The same must go for the last GE, which pretty much sold ‘change’

GasPanic · 13/05/2026 17:19

She's a good speaker and presenter, but it takes more than that to be a successful leader.

Often the focus seems to be on the presentation skills and performance in debate, but surely the management leadership skills are more important for governing.

Starmer doesn't do a bad job of presenting/speaking, but from the rumours his management style leaves something to be desired.

I don't know yet whether Kemi has the management skills to be a great leader.
