I’m in my 20’s, mum is in her 60’s.

I’ve asked her if she wants to go on a girls trip at the end of the year. 4 nights in a city in Europe (we’ve not chosen yet).

Would you do this? I don’t know if It seems a little odd to do or if it’s totally normal.

I did this with DD. We were away for 3 weeks and it was great. I'd definitely do it again.

Blueeberry · 13/05/2026 15:28

DD is 22 - much prefers travelling with friends and has done a bit of solo travel but will go on holiday with me occasionally (provided that she picks the destination and I pay… 🤣).

nochance17 · 13/05/2026 15:28

Totally normal. I do a city break with my adult DD once a year.

Itiswhysofew · 13/05/2026 15:32

I'd love to go for a few days break with my DM, but she won't travel anymore. We've been away in the past and I visit her once a month for the weekend, but it's not the same as disappearing off for a break.

Hope you enjoy your trip!

domenica1 · 13/05/2026 15:34

I think it’s lovely if you get along. I used to do quite a lot with my mum at that age!

Catlady03 · 13/05/2026 15:35

Perfectly normal.

saraclara · 13/05/2026 15:35

My daughter invited me to go on a long weekend break with her a few years ago. I was thrilled, and we had a lovely time.

If be delighted if she asked me again.

Totally normal! I guess if you had a bad or not close relationship then you wouldn’t but that’s the same for any people!

enjoy!

Or, if you have a very enmeshed relationship and you are treated as her surrogate spouse and you feel sorry for her or are trying to make her happy. That’s from me as someone whose mum expected that - I’m really fed up I need a break - cue me scrambling to book something and using my precious annual leave.

Yes as long as she didn't bring along the kids ( either DD)

I also went on holiday with my mother a couple of times as an adult just the 2 of us. She said the last one we went on together was the best ever with no men and no kids

RubyJack · 13/05/2026 15:37

Yes,have done several times :)

Dweetfidilove · 13/05/2026 15:38

I'm looking forward to this when my daughter is old enough.
I hope you both have a fab time.

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 13/05/2026 15:38

Absolutely normal. I’m (56) going away with DD (28) in a couple of weeks’ time - we don’t go away every year; often alone or with friends.

However you reminded me that she had the impertinence to send me this a couple of years ago 🤣.

Would you go on holiday with your adult daughter?
TinkyBella · 13/05/2026 15:40

Yes I’ve done it with both my daughters individually and I even did a few days with my son when he was 18 - not sure he’d be up for it now. I loved it.

Nocameltoeleggingsplease · 13/05/2026 15:40

I would love to go with my DD.
However I wouldn’t want to go with my mum. She would try so hard it would annoy me. I’m aware that makes me a massive bitch. I’m also aware that one day my DD may feel that way about me, although I hope she doesn’t.

Faveway · 13/05/2026 15:40

I go on holiday at least twice a year with my mum. We have the best times and get on like a house on fire. Go for it.

Def do it - You will create memories that last a lifetime

SusanSHelit · 13/05/2026 15:42

I'm 35 and going on holiday with my mum (and ds) this year, can't wait! That being said, we get on very well and have an excellent relationship. She's a wonderful mum, a wonderful nana and an all round top banana. I know plenty of people who would potentially come to blows if they spent an entire week with either of their parents so I consider myself very lucky

Jardenalia · 13/05/2026 15:42

Yes, like a shot, indeed I have often done so (three DDs, still taking short but very enjoyable trips now they’re in their 30s). Why would I not?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 13/05/2026 15:42

Yes, and I have done - short city break.

Kitchenbattle · 13/05/2026 15:44

I just went on holiday to Budapest for a week with my parents and brother. Me and my brother are 41 and 43 🤣

Im going to Berlin next month for a weekend with my mum.

totally ok and normal imo…

NotThisShitAgain121 · 13/05/2026 15:49

Lovely idea. Enjoy.

tiutinkerbell · 13/05/2026 15:51

I used to do it all the time in my 20s and 30s with my Mom before she passed away. We had some amazing times and trips together.

sittingonabeach · 13/05/2026 15:56

If she is keen go for it. Only issue for me would be if you are totally reliant on your mum for your social life in your 20s, but you haven't said that this is the case.

Miyagi99 · 13/05/2026 16:05

We do it at least once, usually more times, a year.

Mum2102 · 13/05/2026 16:09

As a 30 ish year old that lost my mum at 13.... I'd give all the money in my bank to have the chance to do this. Please go. Make the memories, take the photos and have the BEST time 🥹🫶🏽
