Posting here for traffic. If you’re 5’8” and around 10st 8lbs what size are you? And what’s your BMI? My bmi is 22 and I’m between a 10 and a 12 but I think I must have a large frame or something cos I thought I’d be an 8-10 at this weight/this bmi

OP posts:

Im 5ft 9 and at 156lbs (11stone2lbs) i was a small size 10, dresses a size 8 and size 8 on top.

Edited to add BMI 23.1

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 12/05/2026 12:32

I’m 5 foot 8 and 8.5 stone. Normally an 8 but sizing varies so much - sometimes 6 or 10, depending on the shop and the fit. I bet you’re a 10 in Next.

purplespink · 12/05/2026 12:32

Hi OP,

A few months ago, I was the same weight. I’m the same height as you. I was a 12. I’m 10 stone exactly now and wear a size 10.

MrsJPBP · 12/05/2026 12:36

I think it’s more to do with your actual measurements than weight. Everyone at same height/weight will carry it differently.

I’m 5”7 and weigh 10 and a half stone exactly, BMI 23. I’m an inverted triangle shape with boyish hips but broad shoulders and 34E boobs. So my hips are an 8, my waist a 10-12 and bust 12-14.
Right now I’m wearing size XS knickers, a size 10 pair of jeans and a medium top.

I'm bang on 11stone, 5ft 10 and a size 14 !

Body shapes are weird.

It's so odd isn't it? I'm 5'4 and 12 stone and I'm in a size 12 in most things (jeans I'm often a 14, some tops I need a 10 depending on the shop) - the PP who's 3 inches taller than me but only 5lb heavier being a 14 baffles me. It must be how we're built. Shows the size of your clothes means very little though.

NewLeafAgain · 12/05/2026 12:40

10st 8, 5'6. 10-12 sometimes 14 on bottom, 14-16 on top.
Before I had my first kid I was same weight and obv height but a size 8-10 on bottom and 14 on top. A lot more muscle then!

WhatsYourFlex · 12/05/2026 12:42

5”8
10 stone 10

Size 10, can fit in some size 8s

I lift weights and exercise daily so I’m a toned 10 stone 10

Yeah I am 5 foot 4 and at 12 stone I would definitely be a good size 14.

I have very little muscle though (disabled)

DominoLover51 · 12/05/2026 12:44

I’m 5ft4 or 5 and around 9st4/5, think that makes my BMI 22ish. Like you I’m a size 10/12, bigger at the bottom than at the top

RampantIvy · 12/05/2026 12:45

Matcheroo · 12/05/2026 12:26

I’m 5’8”, average build and would have to be quite underweight to fit a size 8!

I think the size 0 is American sizing.

Same here.

AbundantFlowers · 12/05/2026 12:47

You’re a healthy bmi. That’s great. Wear clothes you like, that fit you.
Why does it matter about the label?

FinallyMovingHouse · 12/05/2026 12:47

You're tall, and no matter how you slice it, if your BMI is the same when taller, there is more of you, hence the sizes go up. I would be surprised if you were less than a 10 at those figures. I'm over 5'10", a bit lighter than you but have size 10 hips, size 10/12 waist, and 12/14 shoulders. All sleeves are too short and I only buy mens' coats. Taller people need bigger clothes.

ClairDeLaLune · 12/05/2026 12:54

I’m 5’ 10” and used to weigh 10.5 stone many years ago! At that point I was a size 12, never less than that. Sizes are probably different now though.

Laurmolonlabe · 12/05/2026 13:00

Depends on the size of your frame- there are no hard and fast rules.

MyLimeGuide · 12/05/2026 13:01

I'd say 10/12

bugalugs45 · 12/05/2026 13:01

I’m 5ft 6 , but exact same weight as you and I’m mostly a 12 , can get in a 10 with certain things

Cyantist · 12/05/2026 13:06

I am an 8-10 and my BMI is 18.6. There’s so many other factors you can’t predict dress size just by weight or BMI

Snowstorm25 · 12/05/2026 13:09

I’m 5ft 5 and 10st 8 and I’m a size 10 top and bottom. Sometimes a 12 is more comfortable if it’s a shop known for sizing on the small side. I’ve always been heavier than I look though - I joke that I must have heavy bones! I go to the gym 4 times a week though so I’m quite small but “dense” if you know what I mean!

beeeeeeez · 12/05/2026 13:09

5 ft 8 inches tall, 10st 5 lbs, big-frame, small bosoms. I am a standard size 10 long in supermarket/Next/M and S jeans. Size 10 regular on top, and wear a padded bra to even up my proportions.

I am size 10 up to around 10 st 10, then 12 becomes more comfortable and looks better.

(I fluctuate between 9 st 10 which means I can fit an 8 sometimes and 11 st)

VictoriousPunge · 12/05/2026 13:10

RampantIvy · 12/05/2026 11:09

I'm 5"7 and weigh the same. I'm a size 14 and don't believe anyone who says they are a size 8 or 10 at this weight.

Probably could be if they're very sporty / muscular.

I am 5'8" and around 10 stone but definitely a 12 in most things. Occasionally get into a 10 but it's only really generous stuff like M&S.

If I weighed the same but a decent amount more of me was muscle I'm sure it would be possible to slink into a size 8.

SexyFrenchDepression · 12/05/2026 13:12

When you're taller you would have to be a really low weight to be size 8-10. Size 10-12 sounds about right.

I am 5ft 4 and BMI 20.4, 8st6. I am a size 8 now so you would be very unlikely to be at 5ft8 and over 10 stone. Size 12 for me is chubby but definitely isnt for someone who is 5ft8.

ricketybeauty · 12/05/2026 13:14

MrsShawnHatosy · 12/05/2026 11:17

I’m 5 ft 2 and was a size 8 at 8st 7.

Same! The above poster must be an extremely light person! And I'm not a generous 8, like a 6-8!

Devilsmommy · 12/05/2026 13:16

I'm 5'7 and a at 8 Stone 10 am a size 6. So you being a 10-12 seems right I'd have thought. Though BMI isn't really a good indicator of anything because as you say you may just have a larger frame

FrankSinatraonToast · 12/05/2026 13:19

RampantIvy · 12/05/2026 11:09

Agree. I'm 5ft 7in and when I weighed 10.5 stone I was a size 14 although some 12s fit me but only things with elasticated waists.

Devilsmommy · 12/05/2026 13:22

Forgot to say my BMI is 18.6
