Link to spreadsheet of Labour MPS calling for resignation - https://x.com/GuidoFawkes/status/2053925699824574889

Streeting has to make his move now, Starmer will never be this weak and he has the chance to go now.

Burnham might be more likely to win, but he is not in, and where exactly is a safe seat by election they could parachute him in for? (nowhere)

So - Streeting will never have a better chance of being PM, he pulls the trigger NOW or he never pulls it at all.

I did say on Thursday that I thought it would be Friday or Monday.... Tuesday is a pretty good guess.

This is a quiet Bat People moment... That Speech... not worth remembering...

So you think all those things can be achieved with a click of the fingers and don't need some sort of legislative run in? Totally unreasonable.
Doesn’t seem to matter what evidence people show you, you just dismiss it as ‘bad’. There’s your opinion and the rest can be ignored. Like I said. No point in us continuing this ‘discussion’.

A discussion is where two or more people make different points and go back and forth clarifying or pushing back or accepting or not

you're making things up that I’ve said (a government does not need time to achieve its manifesto)

and then stormed out?

I don’t think the government has done anything at all to address the most important parts of its manifesto or the issues the country has which are around growth, productivity, etc etc. I don’t think they can TBH.

Whatever you are smoking I want some.

Most of the manifesto has been achieved? I will have to go find out what that actually was....

And there’s still a lot of political chaos within Labour.

SpidersAreShitheads · 15/05/2026 17:24

On the subject of the by-election, I thought I read yesterday that it had to be held between 5 and 7 weeks after the announcement- but not sure if I misunderstood/read it wrong?

I’m going to double-check and return later.

But I’m assuming that no one wants to run a leadership challenge without the Chosen One aka Andy Burnham because they fear otherwise the backbiting will continue from his minions.

If that’s the case we can expect Starmer to continue until at least, what, August? Later? There has to time for the by-election and then the leadership challenge.

Fastest end to end - 10 weeks

Realistic 15

Longest - all the way to September/November time.

I Reckon September - and if it takes that long, only 6 moths to turn it around - GE before Easter 2027

There will NOT be a GE before 2029.

Wolmando · 15/05/2026 17:51

I bet it won't end until the conference.

I wonder if the OP was calling a for GE in 2022, they could have had two.

Odds?

You posted them the other day! Here they are again. Hint :there is a reason why you'd currently win more money betting on a 2026/27 election than you would on a 2028 or 2029 election.

Well if you don’t know what’s in it you won’t know what’s been done will you? Giving a strong opinion while admitting ignorance of the topic is an odd thing to do.
Here’s a tracker for you - make it a bit easier to catch up. https://fullfact.org/government-tracker/

Edited

It's all very well marking some of these policies as 'achieved' in the tracker - but take for example the strategic defence review - 'achieved' - the authors of the review have been scathing about the government's inaction;

A co-author of Britain’s strategic defence review has joined criticism of Keir Starmer’s leadership on military policy, warning of a “bizarre” lack of urgency in defence planning.

Fiona Hill, a former chief adviser to the White House on Russia, echoed the concerns of George Robertson, her co-author with Gen Richard Barrons on the strategic defence review (SDR), over what he had called the prime minister’s “corrosive complacency”.

Robertson, a peer and former head of Nato, has publicly aired his frustration at the government’s failure to come forward with its 10-year spending plans for defence following publication of the SDR last June.

That particular one could not be less achieved if it tried. Trust me.

I said it was foolish to quote someone else’s odds back to me - as I was asking for the commenters odds. Not the bookies odds.

i still am.

dunno who would be upset by that

I think you must have been a bit more personal!

As you said the other day, always watch the bookies, they are rarely wrong.

As an immigrant who has lived in the UK for about 15 years. Always worked, actually never claimed a single benefit. My children are British as is my husband. I feel the current climate is very unwelcoming. Brexit was the start of this and now with Reform growing, I think DH and I will look to move soon. This is becoming a bit unpleasant. I am happy that as high earners we have the option to get out, not everyone does.

I also feel sorry for those who are sadly closed minded and xenophobic. It must be a sad little closed world.

That’s not ‘achieved’. Sounds a bit suspect if that’s the marking system.

Has anyone posted this yet (from today)?

[the] parliamentary committee tasked with reviewing files relating to Peter Mandelson’s appointment as US ambassador has revealed that the government is withholding his vetting file despite not having the authority to do so.

In an extraordinary intervention, the intelligence and security committee (ISC) has criticised the government over its handling of the release of Mandelson-related papers and in effect accused ministers failing to comply with parliament’s will.

I am so sorry. Please remember there are literally millions of us who don't support the xenophobia of Reform and the current version of the Tory party. Or the Labour party attempting to chase the Reform vote. 💐

I’m really sorry. Some of my close blood relatives aren’t British-born, with foreign accents, and they definitely noticed an unpleasant change in how they were treated after Brexit. I think the run-up to the Brexit vote was the start of the horrible political mess we’re now in and struggling to get out of.

More skeletons…

it’s surprise left field stuff like this that knocks everyone’s predictions into a cocked hat.

though the shooting war with Russia and the upcoming economic meltdown are waaaay bigger triggers…..
