How is it being unreasonable? It’s your life, your money, your health. Nobody on here can tell you as well as you can tell yourself.

Crushed23 · 09/05/2026 16:32

Of course YANBU, it’s your money.

I did this for about 15 years, then last year DP gifted me an amazing bean-to-cup coffee machine and now I make a coffee at home 5-6 days out of 7. Saves me around $150/month (and the coffee tastes better). Haven’t looked back!

dottiedodah · 09/05/2026 16:32

I think its your choice really. Many do the same ,probably expensive though .Maybe only one a day not too bad or you can buy a flask .We all need a little treat to keep us going!

LemonandLimesoda · 09/05/2026 16:33

I would need more information to say. If you can afford it, and enjoy it than why not? Sometimes little treats like this really make a difference.

We invested in a bean to cup coffee machine during Covid with automatic milk, and it has more than paid for itself. I just take a take away style reusable cup out, and I can make it exactly how I like it, at the temperature I like with the press of a button. I wouldn't go back tbh.

GoldMoon · 09/05/2026 16:34

Your money to choose what you do with it .
My dh and I regularly go to cafes during the week . We don't visit pubs , don't drink , and don't smoke / vape , don't have takeaways .
These past 4 weeks we have logged all the cost of our trips out and it came to just under £200 which seems a lot but factor in all the above and that works out as roughly £50 a week for 2 so I don't think that's too bad .

Funkylights · 09/05/2026 16:35

Up to you if you want to spend £100 a month on a coffee. You must be rich enough

ButterYellowFlowers · 09/05/2026 16:35

Do what you want. It’s your money. That’s about £1,460 a year if it’s every day. If you’re happy spending that for what it gives you then great.

BudgetBuster · 09/05/2026 16:39

Assuming you pay your bills and aren't buying the coffee on a credit card and it's satisfying you then YNBU.

NarnianQueen · 09/05/2026 16:40

Only if you never ever complain about being broke 😆

Sounds nice to me (non drinker). You've got to have some treats!

MandemChickenShop · 09/05/2026 16:42

Try a tea one day

busyd4y · 09/05/2026 16:44

If you can afford it and you want to why not?

Why is it even a question?

Onelifeonly · 09/05/2026 16:45

I wouldn't as I make time to drink a cup of tea every day before I leave home. Not over keen on coffee anyway but I wouldn't want to waste the money. Happy to meet someone socially for a coffee though.

user1471554720 · 09/05/2026 19:04

I go to a coffee shop a few times a week and have a cappucino. It is me time. It is the only time I can sit and not get interrupted. I have tweens and am always driving them places/doing housework in the evenings.

I know people say to have nice coffee at home. It you work full time hours and are out of the house at stupid o'clock, it is a long day without coffee or cappucino.

I earn 75k euros a year, my husband earns similar. I don't drink in pubs. I go for dinner a few times a year. Ww go on one holiday a year. I don't go to concerts. I don't get nails done and I am not into fashion. The time to sit and relax is priceless and keeps me going.

XenoBitch · 09/05/2026 19:10

I know people who have Pret subscriptions, and they get a daily coffee for half price.

But yeah, you do you. If you enjoy your daily coffee that you did not have to go through the faff of preparing yourself, then go for it.

My DP spends an insane amount on tea in cafes, to get him out his flat (he WFH but hates the H bit).

gianfrancogorgonzola · 09/05/2026 19:11

I couldn’t do it. But I’m sure I spend money on other things that are worth it to me but not to others.

Pinkflamingo10 · 09/05/2026 19:34

You work hard and you enjoy your coffee. No one else’s business !

rainbowsparkle28 · 09/05/2026 19:34

Providing that you can afford it, you do you.

Catsansan · 09/05/2026 19:38

thank you all for your replies! Whether i can afford it I’m not sure, i mean i always could invest that £1500 a year 😄, also that’s a cost of a holiday! But I justify it as I have a long commute!

I used to get a takeout coffee everyday too when I had a long commute. 2+ hour drive each way meant I was delighted with my takeout coffee and porridge every morning when I arrived at the cafe next to work!

But I could afford it so I wasn't bothered about people judging me for it 😂 I xoulstn do it now because I don't have the commute anymore and have kids that are constantly costing me money left right and centre 😂
Enjoy whilst you can!

Catsansan · 09/05/2026 20:02

Ah thank you BudgetBuster!

As with all luxuries, I think it depends on whether you feel you get enough benefit out of it to justify the cost. And that depends on your own specific circumstances and preferences. You have a long commute, so perhaps that means you enjoy the coffee more than someone who doesn't. That would NBU.

But if you think you would more enjoy £1500 worth of holiday than the coffees, maybe it's BU. If it's something that concerns you, perhaps start by giving up the weekend/non working day coffees when presumably you don't commute? Put the money in a savings pot and see how you feel at the end of the month.

user1471554720 · 10/05/2026 12:02

Maybe only have coffee on work days, like what someone suggested. Try to sit down and relax when having one. You could have one bought coffee on work days and take sachets of cappucino for if you want a second one.

It is fine for people to say 'have a nice coffee at home'. However if you are out of the house for a full day, this does not work.

Think of the people who go to the pub every weekend. Even having 2 drinks is 20 euro, the price of 4 to 5 coffees. That is what I think, when I consider the cost of buying cappucino out. Also I sit and relax in the coffee shop for half am hour when having one.

someoneelsesshoes · 10/05/2026 12:03

I personally think it’s a lot of money to spend daily on a drink and it all adds up. I just get my free coffee from Waitrose.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 10/05/2026 12:05

I used to do this. Now I’d take tea coffee. I do meet friends for coffee out though.
