To think EVERYONE is thick according to MN? (Election related)

Reform voters are thick because they can't say what their policies are.

Green voters are thick because the Green Party is clearly insane.

Voters of moderate parties are thick because why would you want more of the same old bullshit?

Non voters are thick because you should take part in democracy you idiot!

Have I covered everyone?

Light hearted! (Should have said)😅

Politics is inherently divisive. Everyone has to be for or against loads of stuff.
I struggle to maintain a solid opinion on things - certainly not enough to argue for or against. (I know that is a weakness).

Error404FucksNotFound · 09/05/2026 11:28

Well, it's a fact that the world is not full of Einsteins.
Most of us are not that bright. I certainly wish I was more intelligent.

kinkytoes · 09/05/2026 11:29

Seriously I actually wish we could all just stop insulting each other for having different opinions.

Not everyone is thick. It’s just the people who don’t agree with me. Obviously. 🙄

PollyBell · 09/05/2026 11:32

But ir is on mn where a lot of poster's need everyone else to do do their thanking for them, men, the media, 'society'

Tableforjoan · 09/05/2026 11:33

Obviously.

If you all don’t vote for the right party you are too stupid and shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

The right party being…

Ernestina123 · 09/05/2026 11:34

I think we all struggle to see things from others’ perspectives. So it is easy to dismiss others as stupid or uninformed. In the end what I see is everyone trying to promote the interests of themselves or their group. Perfectly rational behaviour from all concerned.

Someone once got very angry with me because I said that almost half of the adult population are of below average intelligence 😂

"The best argument against democracy is a 5 minute conversation with the average voter."

BlakeCarrington · 09/05/2026 11:37

Mental isn’t it. Someone should start a poll “Are you thick?”. It should have a resounding 100% yes vote according to MN.

Or perhaps the poll should be “Is everybody else thick?” Again 100% yes I presume

*could add “as mince” for extra sass.

MyAutumnCrow · 09/05/2026 11:38

"Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want and deserve to get it good and hard"

ProudCat · 09/05/2026 11:40

I don't think we're thick so much as confused.

Democracy comes from the Greek, demos, i.e. the people. The free born men would gather together and discuss politics (also from the Greek, polis, meaning city because they were organised into city states) before voting on policy. So long as you were free (not a slave) and a man, you got to decide.

What baffles people now, given that technology could easily support this system, is that we only get a say once every five years in a first past the post competition that's blatantly unfair. There's no reason on god's earth why we can't have more of a direct say more often. This is why politics is dead and dominated by loons, because everyone knows it's just a wacky performance.

What your post clearly shows is how poor all the options are

eyeballer · 09/05/2026 11:45

We are all pretty thick, it’s a problem

Womanofcustard · 09/05/2026 11:46

And to add to previous poster, Theseus, the founder of Greek ‘democracy’, started out by killing those who didn’t agree with him!
I now lean towards the Swiss system - referendums on anything contentious and no ‘personalities’, just people who do the job they are paid for. Now wouldn’t that be nice!

PurpleAxe · 09/05/2026 11:46

It is because everyone thinks they are right, therefore everyone else must be wrong/stupid/thick.

latetothefisting · 09/05/2026 12:08

If you think of the average person, half the population are stupider than that!

I agree there's no need to call names though. And if you are calling someone names, "thick" isn't exactly the most articulate and verbose way to demonstrate your own superior intellect, is it? At least call them an imbecilic cretin lacking in political acumen if you're going to bother with an insult.

Not all it's cracked up to be. My grandmother's IQ was significantly higher than Einsteins (she was repeatedly tested by psychiatrists) but it did not make her happier, less racist or a safer parent.

Eta she would 100% have voted reform

It is but my Swiss student said they vote quite a lot and it gets a bit tedious. I’m not sure British people have the appetite to vote so much, they barely turn up to elections that happen every half a decade so…

I don’t think people are thick necessarily, just misinformed and it isn’t always their fault. Politics should be on the curriculum but sadly like the desecration of the humanities and thus critical thinking, it doesn’t often benefit politicians to have an informed electorate.

Newrumpus · 09/05/2026 13:53

It shows a lack of insight and self awareness to conclude that because you don’t understand someone else’s perspective they must be the unintelligent one.

I wholeheartedly agree with this, it’s just not constructive at best and very divisive at worst

I very much agree here.

Believing your view or opinion is the only right one and that everyone else is wrong or stupid shows a huge lack of intelligence and mere empathy.

If you refuse to even look at others opinions then you refuse to be challenged truely just sitting in your little echo chamber.
