Of course you do. You seem to know everything 🙃

I have 24 years of my kids being in school. You haven't had 1 years experience yet. I know a few parents complaining is not going to have a difference esp when your concerns are for yourself not the majority of the children. Maybe listen to more experienced parents, you might learn something. If you carry on this way you will become known as one of those parents in the staff room, that's not a good thing

I have listened to experienced parents - several of the other parents complaining are older parents with older kids. I'll choose them over some stranger on Mumsnet. Thanks though 🤨

AIBU - I asked if it was unreasonable. People have said yes, people have said no.

Thats the point 🤨

Well given the vast majority have said YABU and you're still arguing you're not it does rather seem a bit pointless to make the post if you're not willing to accept in this instance you are in fact being unreasonable.

The vast majority have said you are but you don’t want to listen you just want to argue!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 08/05/2026 20:25

Almost everyone has said YABU - it’s not close run thing!

I'm not arguing - I'm stating my reasoning why. That's the point of AIBU.

Our school do a full day…. in the morning the infants stay at school and do sports (no parents) while the juniors go to the field nearby (parents watch).

then after lunch they swap and the juniors do sport at school (no parents) and the infants go to the field (parents watch).

there are lots of parents who attend but an equal amount who don’t. We just cheer on the kids without parents there too. I’ve missed at least 2 over the years as I couldn’t get the day off.

So what do you expect from school realistically?

they have picked the way to do sports day they feels will best suit their children and (as second thought) more parents.

You don’t like that but what are you actually after?

Denim4ever · 08/05/2026 20:41

Our experiences were, private school pre prep about 2 hours in school grounds and including a tea for the children and parents. Private prep school, totally absurd all day shindig where parents had to look after the kids and be responsible for getting them to their races. State primary, 1/2 a day in the local park - a complete and utter joy. Secondary school - not an event parents could attend.

It's the fact that yet again, working parents have to struggle to get the time off! Time off they actually need to use for childcare in the holidays!

So don’t go. How would you plan sports day?

EmeraldShamrock000 · 08/05/2026 20:59

You don’t have to go, lots of parents miss sports day and the parents there clap for all of the children.
It is not ideal for 9-5 working parents. I worked nights and weekends for years around the school hours. I can’t say it was worth it.

Like I said the local schools plus family and friends schools do it:
One hour sessions.
One year group each day.

And do you think that helps parents with more than one child?

I have never known a school to do one year group a day. That sounds a logistical nightmare

Every single person I know with a child, that is how their school does it. It was the same when I was at school, as it was when my husband was at school.

Wow, I have 3 kids in 3 different schools, went to school myself in multiple areas (we moved around a lot due to my dad’s job) and have just asked my DH who also moved around a lot and we haven’t experienced this at all. Are you in the UK?

Your sample size of 3 is huge.....

Never heard of schools doing 1 hour or different days for each year group.

Problem solved then.

The word is DAY...what the fuck don't you understand...I've edited to add an expression. But before I do...you expect everyday for the next week to be disrupted for you, for parents with 2 or 3 kids to rock up several times

So the extra expression is " you selfish cock"

Our school does a lower and upper sports day.

Nursery, reception and KS1 one day, then KS 2 the next day.

Edited

Its the day they do the sports competitions .... rather than doing sports for a day...
