Today, Wales and Scotland are voting for who will govern their National Parliaments and England are voting in their local elections.

I voted this morning and it was super quick. I was in and out in two minutes.

Have you voted yet?

7.30am ish for me.

Cantheowneroftheredcorsapleasemovetheircar · 07/05/2026 19:42

Yes. About 5:30ish.
I was really worried about it because my passport (only ID I currently have) is still in my maiden name but I'm registered to vote in my married name. Last time it was fine because I just took along my marriage certificate but I couldn't find it for the life of me.
Honestly thought they wouldn't let me, but after showing them all my bank cards in my married name, they let me through. Phew! This bloody taking ID thing can be a pain.
Anyway, my main concern is keeping reform out of our council and this is a very real concern here so I went lib dem as they are the 2nd most popular party and most likely to keep reform out.
I am worried reform will get in because people will vote Green

SpecialAgentMaggieBell · 07/05/2026 19:45

No because there’s no elections here.

DungareesTrombonesDinos · 07/05/2026 19:47

Yes of course it is my duty and women fought for my right to vote. If you dont vote you dont get to have any opinion on how things are run.

yup. If you don't vote, or at least choose to spoil your ballot, then don't moan

Tableforjoan · 07/05/2026 19:48

Yes I did it on the school run first thing with my youngest with me. She loves going voting. Always wants to mark it for me 😅

She was most put out to find out dh went without her after work.

Why? This has been mentioned upthread but nobody seems to be able to explain why spoiling a ballot is ok but not voting isn’t.

chickenss · 07/05/2026 20:08

Yes. Walked to the polling station with my family and came across so many other families doing the same.

From my understanding it shows you want to vote but do not agree with any parties.

Where’s not voting at all is just cnba.

Veiledveritas · 07/05/2026 20:18

What time do the results usually start coming through?

It is supposed to but they don’t care, they count it up and move on fast. No one gives a shit, it’s pointless.

tinytemper66 · 07/05/2026 20:21

Absolutely 👍🏻

For what? English local. Scotland national? Welsh national?

Wales don't count overnight. They start tomorrow.

I didn't realise I still got a postal vote. Had to fill it in and take to polling station. Got third degree and more forms to fill in etc

cadburyegg · 07/05/2026 20:32

I’m not voting today because I haven’t had time.

MintTwirl · 07/05/2026 20:32

I’ve been now. I honestly feel so disillusioned and didn’t particularly want to vote for any of them but I also don’t want reform in my area.

NoisyMonster678 · 07/05/2026 21:00

Yes.

There was a couple behind me and the lady asked the guy behind the desk if if she could use a pen to vote and he said she could but if the ink ran and spoiled the paper, her vote would be classed as void.

Her husband made a cynical remark about it being rubbed out and changed but I don't think the people counting votes have the time for that, and they would lose their jobs.

I have always used a pencil and always will!

SliceofTosst · 07/05/2026 21:01

Yes, just got back.

The polling stations are open until 10pm. If you join the queue before 10pm, then you can still vote (if you’re able to get there in time, that is!)

We’re just back. Youngest is 18 and got a drumroll and round of applause for voting. Took our dog up too.
