AIBU to find his dogs in the bedroom a mood killer?

Would this be a mood killer for you?
new boyfriend of a few months, really like him and we get on so well. Everytime we start having a bit of a kiss and decide to take it up to the bedroom he insists on bringing his 3 little dogs up as they don’t like being alone downstairs.
by the time he has carried them up (too little to climb up) the mood has totally left me and I don’t really like having them in the room for that stuff either.
he thinks I’m being unreasonable…maybe I am?

Ew. No YANBU.

Your wish to be just the two of you when you have sex absolutely trumps his dogs not liking to be left alone.

Also tbh someone that clingy with their dogs would be a turn off. I mean good dog owner is one thing, dogs can’t be left along for a short while is another.

I have a dog who sleeps in our room but when there is romancing to be done, the hound stays downstairs - just weird and very off putting to think of ‘someone’ there present throughout 🤢

sesquipedalian · 06/05/2026 15:33

OP, his dogs are clearly more important than his relationship. Throw this one back.

Yeah, absolutely!

AlcoholicAntibiotic · 06/05/2026 15:35

This would be a deal-breaker for me

middleagedandinarage · 06/05/2026 15:35

That's really weird! You're definitley NOT being unreasonable. What a passion killer.
What happens when he goes out? Surely the dogs have to stay themselves sometimes?

Haffway · 06/05/2026 15:37

I had a very disapproving cat that might have been the reincarnation of a Victorian maiden aunt chaperone.

Ablondiebutagoody · 06/05/2026 15:37

Dogs anywhere tbh. I once ditched a guy with 2 hectic dogs. Always jumping on me, tails smashing on the walls, slobering, cone on head to prevent chewing the injured tail, more crashing about, sleeping in a cage in the living room, in the kitchen when trying to cook, him touching me with disgusting dog hands, dog this, dog that, vet this, vet that. So fucking annoying! Get rid.

worrisomeasset · 06/05/2026 15:37

Dogs would be off-putting for me. However, there have been many, many times that I’ve taken part in ….er… intimacies while there’s been a cat in the room and that’s never bothered me one bit.

Gymnopedie · 06/05/2026 15:41

You are not being the slightest bit unreasonable. Either dump him now, or next time it happens just get your coat and leave.

HE is the one being unreasonable.

Cootanee · 06/05/2026 15:46

thanks all. He did then leave them in the hallway upstairs but it was the whole rushing to bring them upstairs with us that really put me off

You now know his precious fur babies will outrank you every time.

Get rid.

PygmyOwl · 07/05/2026 09:44

This would kill the mood for me too OP!

Velumental · 07/05/2026 09:52

3 dogs so small they need carried upstairs is weird enough for me.

SilkSilk · 07/05/2026 09:54

Ugh, no. Just no.

lemonraspberry · 07/05/2026 10:00

Game over from me - you know you will always be second best to these dogs.

HowlingWolfDog · 07/05/2026 10:20

And here it is… the weekly Dog Moanathon!

Without fail, of late, there is at least one post every week moaning about dogs. Then the pro- dog people get involved and we have pages of it going to & fro.

Boring.😴💤

"Disgusting dog hands". I like that. I like that a lot. That should be your new name 😁
