To think bad drivers will be driving...

ToastWithLimeMarmalade · 06/05/2026 07:19

... either:
A taxi
A BMW or Audi
A white car.

Often more than one of the above is true.

By "bad drivers" I mean arrogant, selfish, dangerous driving, not indicating, etc.

There is a special exception for "bad driving" specifically for those who apparently cannot use reverse gear. They don't fit the above pattern, but will be driving a large SUV they are incapable of reversing or parking sensibly. I encounter these frequently, living as I do in labyrinth of narrow terraced streets. These cars will be parked at odd angles, half in the road, or most likely encountered barrelling down a street you've just turned into, refusing to tuck into any spaces at the side so you can pass each other, especially if it involves reversing. Instead you are forced to reverse for miles/back into another road/onto a pavement.

Round here it’s huge black Range Rovers/SUVs. Accelerating aggressively on our narrow roads. One hand on the steering wheel, trying to look stylish with their other arm draped.
Can I add them to your list please?

Never seen this!
Thinking it may be regional... hmm!

The most awful bit of driving I’ve ever witnessed was on a stretch of road where 2 lanes merge into one - and BMW driver (obvs) over took an ambulance with a blue light active. Says it all really

Iheartmysmart · 06/05/2026 08:05

I’m glad other posters have said Teslas. They seem to be driven by utter pricks around here. Also add the idiot who was tailgating me in her Mini on Sunday because I was sticking to the speed limit.

Passaggressfedup · 06/05/2026 08:35

The worse drivers are those who are convinced they are good drivers.

Those who drive 20 in 30 areas but then fell to stop at crossings as they don't even see people are getting ready to cross.

Those who have poor spacial awareness, who get scared as soon as a car approach the other way in a narrow road and break sharply.

Those who drive 40 on a 60 road...and still drive 40 when it goes down to 30.

Those who break significantly on a 60 road at every slight bend.

I could go on...I hate these even worse than the arrogant Audi!

Lifeisforliving12 · 06/05/2026 08:43

Despite what people think the perfect driver doesn’t exist. We all make mistakes at some point. Anyone who doesn’t recognise that needs to have a look at themselves

icouldholditwithacobweb · 06/05/2026 08:43

Funnily enough, a white BMW has recently appeared on a road near me, parked on the opposite side of the road to all other cars (completely unnecessarily) and miles away from the kerb. It's fucking up the flow of traffic on this road massively as there are so many other cars parked up along the other side of the road, but do they care? Nope. Wanker.

Heyhelga · 06/05/2026 08:46

The BMW driver reputation does more often than not seem to hold in my experience. They seem to love tailgating on the motorway.

Oh and taxi drivers seem to think they rule the roads.

Swiftie1878 · 06/05/2026 08:47

TipsyLaird · 06/05/2026 07:36

BMWs used to be the worst drivers, definitely when I passed my test in the early 90s they were the ones not indicating, cutting you up, speeding or just being generally poor on the road. Audis now seem to be pushing to take that position.

Taxis have always been bad, minicabs though, not black taxis which are usually fine.

White vans rather than cars.

And Sunday drivers in a Kia Picanto or Honda Jazz who tootle along way under the speed limit, totally oblivious to everyone else on the road. The male drivers of those cars are usually wearing a flat cap.

My old dad had a lifelong mantra - “Never trust a driver if they’re wearing a hat”.
It’s surprisingly accurate!

Buscobel · 06/05/2026 08:57

I’m sure some people treat indicators as an option on their cars.

Lorries and large vans are deliberately intimidating, because they know you’ll be more damaged than they will. That applies particularly on roundabouts. I understand they may have deadlines to meet, but their driving may result in someone actually dying.

CaptainCalm · 06/05/2026 08:58

I don’t see that much bad driving. Mostly it’s middle lane hogging or not indicating at roundabouts. Irritating and wrong, but not downright dangerous.

The worst in my experience is as a PP has described, the ones who have no awareness, usually in smaller cars, they tend to be the ones who do: 40 in a 60, and then continue to do 40 in a 30, braking for the straight bit of road, no road awareness, miss the pedestrians waiting to cross, wrong lane at roundabouts and my huge pet peeve of trying to join a 70mph dual carriage way or motorway doing 40mph on the slip road.

So, so dangerous when you’re stuck behind with nowhere to go with oncoming traffic approaching at a much greater speed, and they are pottering along oblivious whilst perhaps thinking to themselves ‘it’s a limit not a target’

GasperyJacquesRoberts · 06/05/2026 07:26

You missed white vans.

This.

Also Range Rovers and those huge monster truck things.

But Motorhome drivers, think they own the road, some appalling driving by them. No spacial awareness in narrow country lanes.

Hellohah · 06/05/2026 09:01

I tend to arrive at the train station to get to work with about 10-15 minutes to spare.
There is a road to the station and car park with about 30 spaces on the left that you can drive/reverse into. If someone is reversing, you can't drive past. I once missed my train because a woman in a massive Volvo took that long to reverse into the last of these spaces.

There are plenty of country lanes not far from me, I use them a bit to take my dog for walks. A lot are 60mph. These big cars tend to stick to about 20 as it seems they can't actually maneuver bends 🤦🏻‍♀️

I agree with all the others apart from white cars. We don't tend to have much bother with white cars.

I'd also like to add mini drivers to the list. They are top tier bellends near me.

ArcticBells · 06/05/2026 09:01

Teslas every time

ForMerryMauveDreamer · 06/05/2026 09:01

Bus drivers! I’ve heard a bus driver say ‘is that your car? because this isn’t my bus!’. I’ve had a bus drive into the side of me (in my lane) on a roundabout and just got out and swapped details without a care in the world, like it was an everyday occurrence.

Omg that would have brought out the worst in me. I’d have been in the local news 🙈

Wolfpa · 06/05/2026 07:42

Don’t forget the fact that Tesla’s have been made without indicators.

I thought most cars don’t have indicators nowadays as only about 20% of people use them.

2chocolateoranges · 06/05/2026 09:05

Audi
white car

well that’s me fucked then. I think I’m a good driver, always indicate, stick to speed limit and I’m considerate to other drivers.

white van drivers are the worst I had one drive right up close to me yesterday flashing his lights, he’d pull away then drive right up close to me again etc and my only crime was sticking to a 30 speed limit, he soon backed off when I tapped my brakes! Asshole!

ElsaSnow · 06/05/2026 09:06

around where I live it’s the Prius drivers that are terrible (I guess a lot are taxis) white vans/cars I agree with and Nissan Dukes are bad too!

The Audi/BMW and most suvs are fine!

ExOptimist · 06/05/2026 09:07

I'd swap black cars for white ones on your list( but keep white vans) but your others are correct. Black BMWs are the worst. Black cars have drivers who love speeding and tailgating.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 06/05/2026 09:11

I’m surprised that so many people are upset about the lack of indicating. I don’t mind at all if someone doesn’t indicate, based on the fact that a huge number of people who do indicate then seem totally incapable of actually going the way they indicated.

MaybeIamJustABitch · 06/05/2026 09:12

You forgot 'To think bad drivers will be driving........'in lane 2 or 3 of a motorway at all times!

looselegs · 06/05/2026 09:15

Have to say, my son drives an Audi and is a very good driver.
However.......Mums on school runs who can't see over the steering wheel of their huge 4x4s...

CoffeeCantata · 06/05/2026 10:47

Not a proper taxi - a hackney carriage, such as you find in London and other big cities. I find that those drivers are assertive but rarely 'bad' and unprofessional. They just know the routes like the backs of their hands. Mini-cabs, yes - you may be right.

I roll my eyes at black saloons of the 'luxury' type - mainly BMWs and sorry to reinforce a stereotype, but massive tanks too.

I drive up and down the country a lot but my God - last Saturday morning on the M25 and M40 - some absolutely shocking driving. I was sure I was going to witness, or be part of, an accident. No indicating, undertaking like crazy, weaving in and out of lanes with no indication when traffic was very dense and close together, speeding, running up the hard shoulder to undertake...Jeez. I'm getting older and I made a mental note not to drive on a Bank Holiday again if I can help it.

That too!

I wish there were public information films like there used to be in the 60s and 70s. I know few people watch actual TV now, but there ought to be a way of getting some basic messages across.

There used to be a TV information film about parking, where a terrible parker called Reginald Molehusband tried to parallel park and finally managed it!

igelkott2026 · 06/05/2026 10:50

Overseas lorry drivers. They are terrifying on the M25/M20.

But generally speaking the bad drivers are middle aged men who are probably retired and therefore not in a hurry, but are - and delivery drivers - I know they are in a hurry but that doesn't mean they can try to kill people.
