What do you think to too good to go app???? I've found 90 percent to be absolutely crap but odd few fantastic!!!I'm not exactly skint when it comes to buying food but I love the idea of zero food waste

Carvery one near me is good
i got enough to make sausage and mash out of it (added own veg) and the rest made a full roast!

They are a bit rubbish where we are. Mainly supermarket, Greggs, a couple of independent bakeries and Costa/ Starbucks.

The independent bakeries do their own version of TGTG bags that are far superior in terms of nice items but higher priced, then what they put on TGTG is just what they have left and is usually a much sadder affair.

Greggs round us is also sad, staff tend to pack them for themselves using the nicer more desirable stuff and again the TGTG that customers get are a bit naff. My friends mum works in Greggs and she said to message her if I order a TGTG and she will make sure it's a decent bag - they mark bags for their friends with the better stuff in.

The supermarket bags are usually quite sad as well and again I have noticed they have started to do their own version with nicer stuff and then the leftover bits are TGTG.

I think it used to be good but used it for the last time after getting a bag with 7 vegan sausage rolls from Costa that were frankly awful.

dizzydizzydizzy · 05/05/2026 10:18

If you live in central London it is amazing.

SheilaFentiman · 05/05/2026 10:19

If it truly would be thrown away, why don't they give it away for free?

Some chains do this eg Pret in big cities used to give sandwiches to the homeless at the end of the day, and Waitrose will occasionally give me a random free item (this is usually something bagged at the deli counter by someone who then decided not to buy it).

Yellow sticker items towards the end of the day at many places often go down to 'practically free' levels eg 20p.

It used to be very good. I remember when shops genuinely gave you what was left over and sometimes you could walk away with a big haul of goodies. Now it’s another money making scheme and you get very little for your money. I hardly use it now. Occasionally get sandwiches from Morrisons but that’s it.

Some days what is left over will be better than other days.

WhatHappenedToYourFurnitureCuz · 05/05/2026 10:23

I tried it three times and each time it was cancelled because the shop had no leftovers. Never bothered since.

clearlyy · 05/05/2026 10:51

I live and work in the centre of Leeds and it’s mostly really really good. The cakes from the market are brilliant.

CarbootJunction · 05/05/2026 11:00

We used to get the Aldi TGTG, until I picked up a box containing just 18 lemons and two packets of very wilted basil.
The local 'best before' shop was happy with them, though.

Sprinkleofspice · 05/05/2026 11:07

To be fair I only live in a small town, but the couple of times I’ve used it it wasn’t great. Really fancied a roast but the food really was the dregs destined for the bin. I think I had a Costa one once, there wasn’t much in it. I think some people constantly check the app so I never got a chance at getting anything else.
I assume companies now try to cut down on food waste as there was a big hooha about it a couple of years ago, so maybe they don’t have much to give away anymore

If it truly would be thrown away, why don't they give it away for free?

The problem with 2g2g is:

  • businesses see it as another source of revenue/driving footfall to their location
  • the 2g2g app is taking a cut
  • overall it means its often not cheap enough to be good value for the buyer given how tired the produce often is

They do that's what I am schlepping out to collect at 8.30 tonight from Tesco.

ohyesido · 05/05/2026 17:15

My first one was from Greggs and I got a chicken and bacon baguette, cookies sausage rolls and an iced bun. It was downhill from there, every other bag has been disappointing

angelcake20 · 05/05/2026 17:16

One local bakery chain has amazing bags with loads of food. The national chains are fairly meh; I had one from Costa recently and it was all gluten free things and not much of it. My son lives near a city Greggs and seems to do quite well out of it. Our Aldi puts the boxes on display so you can see what you’re getting if they're not sold out.

Rainbow1901 · 05/05/2026 17:16

Depends where you buy your TG2G bags - one garage we have bought from had nothing but salad bowls, but another garage had a mix of Sandwiches, Pies, Salad stuff like, Lettuce and tomatoes and indivudual cakes. DD has done Greggs and had a massive selection of sandwiches, donuts, pies and sausage rolls - good timing and very lucky as the next day it was their picnic lunch at the zoo.

Gowlett · 05/05/2026 17:20

I have a friend who posts her TGTG hauls in a WhatsApp group, it’s usually from nice local bakeries. Cakes, pastries, sandwiches, sausage rolls etc… Same friend who is always joining new diet schemes. I wouldn’t want this kind of food in my house (I enjoy a coffee & croissant if I’m out).

Arlanymor · 05/05/2026 17:21

Leon and Pret were good when I lived in London. I rarely bother now - most bakery and coffee shops bags are just full of beige pastries that have seen better days - with the exception of Waterstones Cafe, I had a really good selection of sweet and savoury stuff from there a while back. I've got blood tests at 9:30am tomorrow and can't eat before I go so I am tempted to see if there is some breakfast stuff I can grab from somewhere on my walk home...

notedbiscuits · 05/05/2026 17:21

One thing I have noticed. Get them when it’s raining/snowing and during school term time. As get less people going out for a coffee and something to eat.

I’m tempted to get an Aldi one. But seen on a FB group of TGTG that people had (in different bags)
. 23 bags of watercress
. 16 pots of coleslaw
. 11 pouches of fresh gravy
. 14 pots of Greek yoghurt (the 500g ones)

I will get 10 plus packs of stuff I don’t eat or can’t freeze

notedbiscuits · 05/05/2026 17:23

Then some TGTG are in undesirable areas which are 10pm or later collections.

Judellie · 05/05/2026 17:25

Mixed, really. Always seem to get tomatoes which we all detest. Looks like other people don't like them either as there's so many available.
Had some nice stuff from Yo! in Tesco when we've managed to hit the right time, the odd cakeaway box from one of the pubs has been a nice treat but it's generally very hit and miss and I don't really use it much nowadays.
I also don't like it that they only let you review when you're happy because I once went to an Aldi in a dodgy area and there was a fight with people being dragged by the hair outside, then some customer insidedecided he wasn't being served quick enough and joined in with a metal pole.
I did make sure i mentioned this the next time got a Too Good to go bag (from elsewhere) but haven't had one since

bronnibro · 05/05/2026 17:28

Mixed reviews here too, SW London suburbs, I've had a really good bag from a local Korean BBQ place, there was a lot, tasty, and good to try something new for not too much money, and I don't think you can go wrong really for a carvery dinner for 3.50 as long as its on your way/convenient, I sometimes do that as I pass one on way home from work when my children are with there dad and reserve one to have, but I've also had bags of like 4 croissants which don't even like! So hit and miss really, there's another place I'd like to try really but they don't put out the bags until 9.30 and theres no way im going out at that time for any bargain!

JohnTheRevelator · 05/05/2026 17:35

I used to get bags from the Gregg's in my local high street once every couple of weeks up until about a year ago. I stopped because I was constantly getting stuff I didn't like, i.e. sandwiches or rolls with ham in. I love tuna, and cheese and chicken, but did I ever get those? Hardly ever. Always bloody ham which I hate. It started to feel personal in the end so I stopped 😂

Kizmet1 · 05/05/2026 17:52

I tried it in Manchester a few years ago and quality/quantity was very hit and miss, but what put me off was that in a couple of places the staff acted really weird about it and the last time it was a couple of teenage/ very young adult girls at an indie bakery, and they were laughing about how "gross" the left over stock was and giving me that mean girl side eye... Bleh. I was only using the app for a bit of fun and really didn't need the bad vibes or stale cake!

snowymarbles · 05/05/2026 19:00

We used to get one from one of those food delivery places. Go puff I think it was. We had great bags from there because it was proper food - chicken breasts, salmon all sorts. I never see it now so I think they closed down.

Monthlymonster · 05/05/2026 19:02

Really only bother with Krispy Kreme if I’m passing at the right time.
