To think that airlines need a complete overhaul, and more regulation?

The amount of money theyre charging for flights, where youre sat in a teeny seat and offered a crap meal ..

Other industries have improved their offerings, but airlines continue to operate to the same crappy standards

More seat space should be given as standard. Forcing people to sit in a tiny seat for 8 hours at a time is awful and must have awful effects on the human body?!

WiFi should be free, as its practically a human right atp.

Food should be of a better standard

Where can people lobby for change?!

As has always been the case. The point I’m making, fairly obviously, is that many millions of normal people with normal jobs can afford that price. Many thousands do fly that route every single day. And that certainly wasn’t the case until relatively recently.

I can see your point, which you are so politely making tonight, but my point is that it just isn't good enough

Paying hundreds of pounds to be squished up - because the other option is double the price, is not on

Imo ofc

And still unaffordable for a lot of people

But perfectly reasonable for a 7.5 hour flight. The price of fuel probably takes up a huge chunk of that now. Are you suggesting you should be paying about £200 for a premium economy experience? I don’t quite understand exactly what you want.

For the price people are paying there should be

More space
Better and healthier food options
Free WiFi on all flights - if they can manage it on the tube, they can manage it on British airways

I don’t agree at all. Sorry. If you want those things you won’t get it at a cheap price. Like I say, premium economy was created exactly for the market you describe. £1000 for a long to New York flight with all those things you describe sounds pretty reasonable. I don’t know why you expect it to be cheaper than that. You can collect air miles to help with the cost. Helps a lot.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 04/05/2026 23:11

@mumofoneAloneandwell You don’t deserve anything. None of us do. If you cannot afford what you want, you just have to take what’s offer at your price point. I want lots of things (I’d quite like an Aston Martin) but cannot justify buying one. You will just have to save up and go business. Or go without. Costs are mostly fuel based at the moment. You do know there’s an issue with costs I assume?

This is an unreasonable way of seeing things imo

People deserve to be able to travel in comfort and safety - i'm not talking luxury but being squeezed like sardines and paying hundreds for the privilege is unfair imo.

Maybe choose proper airlines then and not low cost ones?

mumofoneAloneandwell · 04/05/2026 23:16

Clearly you lot are millionaires then, if you can just 'choose to fly business' 🙄🙄

No, people just think if they are paying a cheap fair it will be no frills. They don’t mind as as long as it gets them from A-B safely. Might be a bit uncomfortable and basic but they do have the choice to upgrade and decide it’s not worth it. You want a business class experience for an economy fair and that’s just never going to happen

NewbieSM · 04/05/2026 23:39

Look I’m hardly going to defend airlines and their profits but I am highly amused at the OPs assertion that she DESERVES the right to travel at business class standard but for an economy price. This is capitalism love, BA and Virgin etc are profit led businesses they don’t exist to give you what you think you deserve. Flying is a privilege not a right, if you don’t like the accommodations then pay for better or if you can’t afford it then tough titty, life isn’t fair.

Suitable leg room, decently spaced seats, on board wifi and healthy food isnt a fgs

Business class/first class is luxury, as it should be - i am saying that the base standard should improve

The current conditions are unhealthy and awful - and are all that most people can afford.

OP posts:
OonaStubbs · 04/05/2026 23:43

Unfortunately when people buy tickets based on price, this is the end result.

I'd like there to be an airline that offered slightly bigger seats with slightly more legroom and slightly more luxurious amenities, but most people would still fly with the cheaper airline, and then moan about it afterwards, then would pay for a slightly more expensive ticket.

I dont think i personally do, I think everyone does. Long haul flights in cramped conditions with little leg room and decent food is awful. I'm not asking for a bed and a hot towel that you get in first class fgs, just some decent conditions

Sorry you think basics, that you'd even get on the tube = first class

So use airlines that provide that, yes you will pay more that is how it works

You can get decent food - bring it yourself and no one will stop you.
if ~500 to NY is a stretch you shouldn’t be going there anyway - the city is very very expensive.

No i dont 😄

I am a nornal person who deserves to be able to travel

Airlines need to make adjustments. No way are they not profiteering from their hostile flying conditions

No-one "deserves" to be able to travel at any price and for any distance and speed they wish. It's a privilege. It's terrible for the environment and if you've not been watching the news, jet fuel is a scarce and volatile commodity.

You think it would be better for humankind if more people traveled by aeroplane for cheaper? Are you a climate change denier?

intrepidpanda · 04/05/2026 23:53

You can pay more for a better seat and airline
You can even hire a private jet.
I would rather have the cheaper fare thanks.
